Overview

“Battlefield to Backcountry” isn’t a cute advertising line at Kryptek, it’s a way of life. The founders are very serious about hunting; the home office is covered top to bottom in mounts of animals they have harvested. Both are also U.S. Army veterans, with a whole mess of combat between them. It should come as no surprise then, that when they founded the company to fix camouflage as we know it, they brought their “A” game. New for this year, some products for both the tactical and the hunting world.

Impression

The biggest story, in my opinion, is the new tactical line. This one is military=only for the moment, but it is still worth talking about. When it came time to address new kit for the boys, Kryptek actually sought out those who have been there, done that, for R&D. It shows in every seam of the tactical line. Little things like the new combat shirts without a zipper. Not something you might notice if you haven’t walked all night in your armor across unforgiving terrain. Pockets in the right places for door charges. A Velcro flap to cover the folding knife you use to open MREs, so you don’t lose four of them per deployment like in your last pants. Every detail is thought out. Everything you need, and nothing you don’t. Also new are some really well-designed gun bags.

Also new this year is some product for the hunting crowd. Kryptek camo has been very popular not only because it works, but because it looks cool and different. Nothing wrong with that. But in some places you have to hunt in blaze orange. Kryptek stepped up to the plate this year with the new Inferno pattern. It satisfies the orange requirement, but still breaks up your silhouette against colorblind animals. It’s made to the same high quality specs as all Kryptek clothing, and it does look pretty cool.
