X Products, manufacturer of high-end drum magazines, commercial flamethrowers and beverage launchers, is introducing a couple of new ways to send cans skyward with the Can Cannon Blank Conversion Kit and Can Cannon X1 stand-alone launcher.
The Blank Conversion kit lets users launch projectiles out of their existing 5.56 NATO Can Cannon using .22-caliber fastener blanks, which are widely available and relatively inexpensive. The in-progress X1 is a complete unit, a single-shot break-action launcher that doesn’t use an AR lower as a host.
The Blank Conversion Kit is available now with a suggested retail price of $189 by itself or $219 with a magazine. Based on a .22 Long Rifle conversion kit, the blank kit has an upgraded extractor spring to help cycle .22 blanks, which can have wax coatings.
Fastener blanks are produced with a wide range of charges to work with different tools and fasteners, often ranging from 1 at the least powerful and as high as 5 or 6. X Products says that number 5 and similar power level .22-caliber blanks offer the same amount of launching force as a typical MIL-SPEC M200 5.56 blank.
The conversion kit is constructed from stainless steel and is compatible with standard AR uppers chambered for 5.56 NATO or .223 Remington. It will work as a .22 LR conversion kit with a compatible upper.
The Blank Conversion Kit comes with a big red warning not to load the Can Cannon with standard .22 LR ammunition, as it will chamber and fire standard .22 LR rounds, which will likely cause damage to the Can Cannon and poses a risk to the shooter as well.
The X1 is slated to launch later this year, but X Products is taking pre-orders for standalone launchers now. Pre-orders require a $20 deposit on the final price of $399.

Operating the X1 is simple. The two-position trigger functions as a normal trigger to fire the X1, but pushed forward, it unlocks and resets the action. After loading a blank, the launch tube can be loaded as you would normally. The standalone X1 cannot accept standard ammunition and will only chamber blanks.
The X1 works with the same projectiles as the original Can Cannon, including X Product’s full line of accessories including their grappling hook, fishing spear, golf ball adapter, launch balls and launch cups, and anything else you want to shoot with your 21st century blunderbuss.
X Products knows that shooting can be expensive and these are great-looking options for anyone who wants to shotgun soda cans out of the air and save a little cash at the same time. For more information about the new Can Cannon lineup, check out X Products online.
