National Gun Registry Imminent – Fight the UN Small Arms Treaty ATT

Dick Morris is trying to sell his book here, but he makes some very good points about the states not being able to fight the provisions of an international treaty.
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yq0FnVNUrXI

Wayne Lapierre make the perfect point here about the ATT. Even if your wishy washy liberal Senator is going to vote for the fool thing, at least contact him or her and get the civilian guns taken out. This could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back and bring a genuine revolution to the streets of America. No matter which way you lean politically, the ATT is good for nobody.

This coming week the UN is set to meet to agree on an international arms treaty on “small arms,” called the ATT. The treaty was engineered by Hillary Clinton, and is the second shot from the Obama White House to covertly take our 2nd Amendment rights away through indirect means. The first was of course the “Fast & Furious” program that walked guns into Mexico in hopes that our gun freedom, and gun dealers, would be blamed for spilled blood across the border. Thankfully that one failed thanks to a brave whistleblower, but this one is even more serious.

You need to immediately contact your Senators for your state. The Senate, not the House of Representatives, ratifies international treaties. This link gives you the phone numbers and a link to the web form for the Senators themselves:

https://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Conservative commentator Dick Morris has been one of the lead whistleblowers on this issue. He explains on the video we have embedded here that the small arms treaty will carry the force of a constitutional amendment once it is ratified by the Senate and signed by the President. The treaty will prohibit the export of all small arms. You may not feel strongly about this issue, because you have no plan to ever export any of your guns. But like everything else we’ve seen from this administration, this is a platform for a sneaky and underhanded way to register and eventually take away our guns.

The catch of this agreement not to export guns is that the White House, through the BATFE, could decide that in order to prevent guns from being exported, all the guns in the US need to be inventoried and registered, so that the government can make good on their promise not to export. So with no law, no congressional oversight, no debate, no conditions, the Federal Government could simply mandate that all firearms become registered. We know from history, whether it be Nazi Germany, Communist China, Pol Pot’s Cambodia, Stalinist Russia, and every other murderous dictatorship, that the first step in taking weapons is inventorying and registering them.

The NRA has been anything but silent on this issue. The ATT has been a topic of discussion in the NRA print pubs for years, and Wayne Lapierre recently gave a speech at the UN, (video embedded here) commenting on the treaty. His take is that the only way the ATT can become compliant with American gun ownership values and the 2nd Amendment is to completely remove all talk of civilian firearms from the treaty. Until 2009 the US was officially against the ATT. Obama opened the door, and here it is on our doorstep today. You must voice your opinion on this to your Senators today, whether you advise them to not vote for the treaty, or even, if your Senator is a wishy washy liberal, to at least remove the civilian guns from the entire ATT itself.

Whether you are one of those people who answer every call to action regarding the 2nd Amendment or if you have never written or called a representative in your life, the TIME TO STAND UP IS NOW. The government has taken away our freedoms from us by stuffing FDA, EPA, OSHA, and even ridiculous hunting regulations down our throats. The one freedom that guarantees all of our other freedoms is the right to keep and bear arms. The 2nd Amendment shall not be infringed. Please take a tiny part of your day today and let yourself be heard. The future of freedom in America depends on you.

The un is now and always has been a absolute joke. Guess who pays the majority of the bills for this disfucinal organization to even exist? The answer is of course the american tax payers. We also supply the most troops and weapons only to have inept UN comanders in control of do nothing peace keeping forces other than order the solders to put on blue helments as if that would stop the agressors. Now the president intends to turn over the governing of the united states to the UN ??? The absolute weakest link in the world when it comes to enforcing treaties. This administration is hell bent to not only to destroy 2ond amement rights to bare arms but the real target is the constitution, captialism, and our individual freedom. Our enemies are at the gate! Stand firm we the people rule our contry.

Well, looks like Hillary’s “arab spirng” is just blossoming all over north africa. So I guess she doesn’t know a damn thing about that either. What we need to remember, is that these “bureaucrats” don’t have to know anything about the job they are doing. It’s hard to imagine. I naturally think they know what they are doing because you and me, have worked to become competent at our vocation(s). For us, handing in a resume with no relevant skills, will not get a call back. For them, they go from one position to another. Security, communications, Food Inspector…. To them any position is the same. They want to register guns? I want to register bureaucrats, so they can only be hired for a position that they have a background in! Although no-one can know everything, the President isn’t an OJT position. We currently have a fine example of how much damage, can be done, by having the wrong person, in a position. Yes I said WRONG person. I’m black and I said it, so don’t try that racial bullshit! He was the wrong person to put there. We didn’t check his skill set. How much did we really care?

A very large part of the problems we face today in our political system is that too many people continue to call and thereby think that we have a democracy as our form of government.
It is a REPUBLIC. The rule of LAW. What law is that? The CONSTITUTION. The LAW OF THE LAND. That is how we remain free NOT because we have a democracy and we all voted to be free, it is by LAW we remain free. The Constitution calls us free, the Declaration of Independence calls us free, our Bill or Rights calls us free, the Amendments to the Constitution ensure our freedom. Nothing in it is about being a democracy. So PLEASE stop claiming our country is a democracy and start calling it what it is!! A REPUBLIC!!! ONE NATION UNDER GOD! We live in a REPUBLIC. We have a Rebublic form of government, NOT REBPLICAN as in one of the twisted party’s but by the rule of law we conduct ourselves and that is a repulican form of government, just like our founders brought it about with the help of the Creator or the Universe.

  • Geoff August 21, 2012, 1:13 am

I agree with Matt if we don’t want this to happen then we need to take the first step ourselves .I believe the first step needs to be is voting that idiot out of office and putting someone in there who actually knows what they are doing. A new attorney general who doesn’t make things worse by losing assault rifles that end up killing a border patrol agent.

Our founding Fathers created a foundation for society greater than any other in world history. A foundation built on “FREEDOM”. Free to do things that enable American citizens to prosper. A FREE PEOPLE. As long as there is air to breathe there will be those who wish to destroy this country. Whether by force (bombings, flying planes into our buildings disregarding all human life, etc.) or back door tactics labeled as World Peace (treaties which gut our nation of its fundamental rights, laws that take freedom instead of support it, etc.). Our inalienable rights were established for the people by the people to protect our citizenship as well as our freedom to live as Americans. If we the people do not band together (as we have had to do throughout our existence) and stand up for our established rights, this country will fall. There is a cancer from within which will, consequently, destroy the freedom for every American, Democrats and Republicans alike, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Man, Woman, Child (born or unborn), Rich or Poor. Cancer is not prejudice and neither is destruction. However unlike cancer there is a preventative. FREEDOM. Wake up America, the wolves are at the door and they have penetrated our government and legal system. They wish to conquer this land and disarming its citizens is just one of the necessary steps needed!

A lot of folks are referring back to that terrible night in Aurora CO, and while I wholly espouse legal concealed carry, we have to remember what “legal” means: In MY state you cannot carry onto school or institute of higher learning grounds; cannot carry into a library, liquor establishment, enclosed sporting venue, or THEATER. I don’t know how the CCW laws are in CO, but if they’re anything like mine, a legally armed citizenry wouldn’t have done a lot of good, because they wouldn’t have been able to carry into the theater in the first place. Open carry? Not within city limits, thank you very much. Too great a chance of the wrong thing going down….hence the Sgt Dennis Finch Law Enforcement Center, named for a brave officer who was taken down by a nutcase who was legally in a state of open-carry. Unless we’re carrying covert under very specific circumstances, the perps will still have the advantage.

I e-mailed both of Florida’s Senators and these are the replies I got back. These are in no way intended to keep any one from writing/e-mailing your Senators if you live in Florida, Just wanted to let others know that writing/e-mailing them works. Their responses …

    Dear Mr. Reed:

Thank you for sharing your concerns about gun control and the ongoing talks at the United Nations (UN) about a treaty to regulate the illicit trade in small arms. I support the constitutional right to bear arms. I grew up on a ranch in Florida, and have hunted since I was a boy.

The UN is planning on its Arms Trade Treaty being finalized in 2012. Secretary of State Clinton said that the U.S. would participate in these negotiations in order to prevent terrorist groups and insurgents from receiving illicit arms. As with all treaties, the U.S. Senate must vote ratify any treaty. I would never vote in support of a treaty that would impact the right to bear arms or require regulation of domestic sales of arms. You can be sure that I will keep your thoughts in mind whenever the Senate considers firearms issues.

    Sincerely,
    Bill Nelson

    Dear Mr. Reed,
Thank you for contacting me regarding the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty. I’m grateful for your thoughts and for the opportunity to respond.

As you may know, in October 2009, under the direction of President Obama, the U.S. voted to participate in the negotiation of United Nations Arms Trade Treaty in the United Nations General Assembly. The purpose of this treaty is to create a set of international standards for the import, export and transfer of conventional arms, and a conference is currently being held to finalize this agreement. As the process currently stands, I am concerned that the Arms Trade Treaty poses serious dangers to the constitutional rights of Americans. Our Second Amendment rights are not negotiable.

It is evident to me that certain parts of the treaty challenge our individual freedoms. One clear example is the limitation of the transfer of arms within member states. Additionally, the treaty is also designed to control the transfer of arms from non-state actors, placing the burden of controlling crime on law-abiding citizens instead of on the member states of the U.N. For these reasons, I have co-sponsored the Second Amendment Sovereignty Act (S.2205), a bill which prohibits funding to negotiate a U.N. Arms Trade Treaty that restricts the Second Amendment rights of U.S. citizens.

As a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, please know that I am following the development of this treaty process closely. I appreciate your opinions, and I look forward to serving the people of Florida.

    Sincerely,

    Marco Rubio
    United States Senator

I think most Americans really don’t understand the purpose of the 2nd Amendment. Before I tell you what it is, let me tell you what it is not: It is not about being able to defend yourself from being mugged. It is not about protecting your family from intruders in your home. It is not about being able to go hunting. It is not about being able to enjoy time target shooting as a family. While these are all important, they are secondary to the real purpose of the 2nd Amendment: For the citizenry of this country to protect themselves from a tyrannical government. It is our responsibility – via the 2nd Amendment, to keep our politicians, our government in check.

If anyone spouts off to you about the recent Holmes’ shooting in Colorado or Columbine many years ago, just check out this story: http://news.yahoo.com/florida-man-71-shoots-alleged-robbers-internet-cafe-110406403–abc-news-topstories.html If people in the audience at the theater or at Columbine were armed (like the man at this internet cafe), there would have been far less loss of life and injuries. Instead of taking away our right to keep and bear arms, everyone should be required to own and learn how to safely use firearms.

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Amendment II, United States Constitution. Any person who suggests that restrictions should be placed on our right to keep and bear arms, has the same mindset of the criminals in government who have killed 262,000,000 of their own citizens in the last century. That is their goal! Let’s not allow that to happen here!

  • JRP July 26, 2012, 6:08 pm

The citizens of the United States do not need the permission of the United Nations
to maintain the “exclusive” right to own a gun.
This right, as with all others protected by the Constitution
and the Bill of Rights, comes from God, not man, and may be
neither given nor taken away by any government.

  • Doug July 25, 2012, 6:03 pm

This is just plain wrong to give up our rights to appease other countries. We need to defend our rights to own guns for our own protection. That is why the 2nd ammendment was put in the constitution. This is just another attempt of big brother trying to take total control of our lives.

  • Roger Whiteaker July 24, 2012, 6:48 pm

The ignorance and hysteria shown by this article is truly remarkable. Just like sheep, you respond to any rumor of a threat to your 2nd Amendment rights with unquestioning rabid ferocity. Both Wayne LaPierre and Dick Morris know they are lying when they say, “…the small arms treaty will carry the force of a constitutional amendment once it is ratified by the Senate and signed by the President.”

If you’ve managed to read to this point without barking and slobbering all over yourself, I’ll explain why NO TREATY HAS THE FORCE OF A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT. EVER. In over a dozen decisions over the last 150 years the Supreme Court has ruled that A TREATY CAN NEVER AMEND THE CONSTITUTION NOR CAN IT BE USED TO VIOLATE RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS PROTECTED BY THE CONSTITUTION.

    • Administrator July 24, 2012, 8:19 pm

I guess that means you are on board to pay for the legal fees when the government sites supremacy. Another Dreamer! Wake up and smell the coffee. Our President and Congress are openly operating outside the Constitution every day! The “Supremes” don’t even uphold the simplest intent of the Constitution in many cases. It must feel great to pontificate your legal opinion about the force of Constitutional rule, but the carcass of the America I grew up in during the 50’s and 60’s is now getting close to the bare bones. We’ve been “PICKED OVER” BY THE BEST MINDS MONEY CAN BUY” and there is little left before the lights are shut off and America becomes the Ghost of Christmas Past.

we the people should not have to call a congressman or senator about giving away our rights, its not theirs to give or uses as bargaining tool at the un meeting. There are bigger issues that these elected idiots should be concerned with. This country is now 16 trillion dollars in-debt,and their stupidity done it,but they don’t seem to think we have sense enough to own a hand gun.I think they should be doing what we hired (elected) them to do, like go to work on the economy,an grow your tax base so you pay off the debt bust wall mart it is a monopoly, and that’s not supposed to happen, but these people want to shut down gun manufacturing another business which would be added to the long list of companies they already helped eliminate, and Hilliary retire. • J Seeman July 23, 2012, 8:47 pm

Why don’t you folks do your homework and find out the true state of affairs before you go off the deep end?

    Origins

Initially put forward in 2003 by a group of Nobel Peace Laureates led by Óscar Arias, it was first addressed in the UN in December 2006 when the UN General Assembly adopted resolution 61/89 “Towards an Arms Trade Treaty: establishing common international standards for the import, export and transfer of conventional arms”.
    [edit]Development

Resolution 61/89 requested the UN Secretary-General to seek the views of Member States on the feasibility, scope and draft parameters for a comprehensive, legally binding instrument establishing common international standards for the import, export and transfer of conventional arms, and to submit a report on the subject to the General Assembly at its sixty-second session. 94 States submitted their views, which are contained in the 2007 report A/62/278.
    [edit]Support from Member States
153 Member States voted in favor of Resolution 61/89. UK Ambassador John Duncan formally introduced the resolution in First Committee on October 18, 2006, speaking on behalf of the co-authors (Argentina, Australia, Costa Rica, Finland, Japan, and Kenya). On behalf of the EU, Finland highlighted the support for the effort when it said, “everyday, everywhere, people are affected by the side effects of irresponsible arms transfers… As there is currently no comprehensive internationally binding instrument available to provide an agreed regulator framework for this activity, the EU welcomes the growing support, in all parts of the world, for an ATT.”[1]
24 countries abstained: Bahrain, Belarus, China, Egypt, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Kuwait, Laos, Libya, Marshall Islands, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, UAE, Venezuela, Yemen, and Zimbabwe. The United States of America voted against the resolution.[2]

MY FELLOW AMERICANS: We Do have laws againgst Treason and Traitors Yet no one WITH THE BALLS TO ENFORCE THEM THATS THE PROBLEM.

  • Rob July 23, 2012, 7:42 pm

I have concealed weapons permits in three states, as I have been active duty since 1994 and filed for them when needed. The incident that happened in Aurora is horrible – as it Virginia Tech, Columbine, Killeen Texas, Arizona and so many other ‘mass murder’ incidents (interesting that these horrible actions happened in places where it is ‘illegal’ for a *law*-abiding citizen to carry a weapon, isn’t it?). But as I told my (Wyoming) Senators – if I had been in that theater on that night, my wife and I both would have had our pistols with us, as we now seldom leave home without them.

I am no super-hero, but I have served in the past three wars we have been in. I know for a fact that I could have started putting rounds into his center of mass, which if for nothing else, would have drawn his fire. Does that mean no one would have been shot? Probably not. But as I have been willing to give up my life for the population of this country, I would have engaged him and perhaps more people could have retreated unharmed before I – or he – became incapacitated and couldn’t fire. Including the 3-month old victim who now suffers in a hospital.

I haved served this country (that I love dearly) gladly, and that will never stop even after I hang up my uniform. But my greatest fear is to see this population be subject to tyranny of a government. The writers of the Bill of Rights SPECIFICALLY wrote that document in order to guarantee a number of *personal* freedoms for the populace, to limit the new and emerging government’s power in judicial and other proceedings, and reserve some powers to the states and the public – for fear that if they didn’t apply these powers to the federal government, we would end up in a tyranny again. If you research the arguements leading up to the Bill of Rights (Federalists, vs. Anti-Federalists, Virginia Declaration of Rights, Articles of Confederation, Madison’s proposals to Congress and many more), the 2nd Amendment was the only right that stated it would SPECIFICALLY ‘not be infringed’. Why? Because the writes of these documents feared a future in which the painful, horrible process they had gone through would have to be repeated, and they wanted to make certain April 19th, 1775 at Lexington and Concord did not occur again. Registering our firearms would be exactly that.

In short – we, the citizens of the United States, are responsible for the behaviors and actions of our Congressmen/women and Senators. There are procedures for enforcing them representing our will – but if we simply sit back and let them ignore us, we deserve what we get. It goes beyone writing your Senator – it goes into making *damn* sure they do their jobs! NEVER let them get close to controlling our weapons…

    • Doug Spencer July 28, 2012, 7:02 am

I would inquire re: the three wars you fought in “serving our country”. I submit that “our country” had you fighting for objectives never voted on or approved by any congress – namely the service of new World order objectives in securing oil for Europe and ensuring a stable opium supply for the world’s big-time drug lords (hint – Queen Victoria of England was getting an override off all the opium shipped from India to China after the Brit merchants got all the labor class in China hooked on opium-that “pipeline” is still at work today with the same overrides to similar parties in Great Britain, but no longer China, instead all of the West, especially the USA). Oh! And did I mention the need to “pacify” Afghanistan in order to build a pipeline from the former Soviet stan’ countries to China (although that has been laid aside for the time being in the interest of increasing opium production). I don’t see much else that was accomplished by these three wars other than massive expenditure of materiel and some american and allied lives, and the lining of the military-industrial-pharmaceutical-agricultural-educational complex’s pockets.

It is imperative that we the people and our Representatives in Washington stay together to preserve our Demcracy.

    • Doug Spencer July 28, 2012, 6:49 am

Uhh Hello! We’uns don’t have a Democracy – it’s called a Democratic Republic. A Democracy, in any semblance of “pure” form will almost always lapse into “mob rule’. To prevent the rule by the instinct (and in-stinks) of the masses, our forefathers wisely chose a representative form of government with a division of powers with checks and balances that at the moment is well neigh fallin’ apart. A pure democracy would only work in a small country where everyone was intensely educated. Dealing with the mindless minions we have at present in the USA would be impossible if there was a direct vote. If you think we have problems now, think about the welfare crowd voting en masse to have free everything. That’s what a pure democracy would evolve to in short order – just everyone voting himself a million dollar salary and free ice cream.

GW Bush was so busy signing executive orders preparing for the death of our freedoms that he had writer’s cramp in both hands! I hear Obama is learning to write with his feet to help overcome that problem (after all, he did specify WHAT KIND OF CHANGE, when he promised change!). I fear 90% of the armed populace will have “boating accidents” with lost guns before any such laws occur

    • Doug Spencer July 28, 2012, 6:34 am

Here in Hawaii we are required to get a permit for the purchase of Long Guns (good for one-year, any amount) and must register them with the County Police within 3 business days of purchase. We are permitted one by one on handguns and have to show the permit to receive the weapon from a dealer. The best way I’ve figured to get around the law would be precisely a boating accident about one day prior to confiscation, or travel to the mainland and buy used weapons from the classifieds in medium sized cities in the western states and bring ’em in that way. I could have my daughter purchase a weapon in Illinois and bring it with her when she visits, but if I don’t register it I’m already violating Hawaii Law. My best guess on retaining weapons during a confiscation drive would be to “move house” inter-island by boat and have a “terrible accident” out over about 8-10,000 feet of ocean water and “lose all them guns”. I doubt a lie detector test would be legal evidence in such an event but I damn sure better have the weapons hidden off premises because if they can confiscate, they are not above an illegal search and seizure either. As far as I know the Democratic People’s Republic of Hawaii is the only state in the USA mandating registration of every firearm.

  • XDFAN July 23, 2012, 12:39 pm

It’s real simple—-IT”S CALLED NON-COMPLIANCE! If we and gun and ammo manufacturers just defy whatever the District of Criminals decide they wanna do. The UN can kiss our ass too. I will not register nor hand them over. This defiance goes with everything the Feds do or say. Quit playing their game. Quit being submissive subjects and start standing your ground with your rights. If we all band together instead of being divided we can put this country on the right track again.

    • David July 23, 2012, 9:43 pm

BINGO”…. That`s where is at , boy`s and girl`s…. Unity !….. Now , tell me how you make that happen ? lol .

    • Doug Spencer July 28, 2012, 6:21 am

Well, I’ll “band together” with you. I live in the Democratic People’s Republic Hawaii and I’m broke. You and the 4 or 5 others that we can find with the gonads to “stand and fight” will make a hell of an impression on the feds when the steamroll us and lock us away! If we could organize 5 or 10 million, we might have a chance, but we’d be shut down as a “militia” before we got to 1,000 is my bet – especially if we use interstate mail, the telephone and the internet to organize. Best stick to the 4 or 5 with the gonads is my guess.

      Good Luck Buddy!

    • Antithesisofreedom September 13, 2012, 8:36 pm

But WE all do already register our long rifles. When you purchase it it is put on a registry that you bought it and where you live. If you are stupid enough to believe they are not KEEPING that list you don’t belong owning a firearm.
I want to know what state in the US does NOT take any of your information and it is a finalized transaction when you leave the store??

  • Bill July 23, 2012, 12:35 pm

First of all, the ATT does not “prohibit gun exports” it controls exports. Furthermore, the US already adheres to the guidelines in the ATT. The ATT is for OTHER countries to start following the same gun export guidelines that the US and others already follow. They’re trying to cut down on illegal arms sales to terrorists and rogue groups, not infringe American rights. And on top of that, there is no way to “bypass” the constitution, it doesn’t work that way. The only way to change the 2nd Amendment is to either add a new Amendment that reverses the 2nd, or for the Supreme Court to radically change the interpretation of it. The Senate and the President can’t do it without the Congress. You should brush up on the Constitution and stop listening to loons like Dick Morris.

    • Don Brown July 23, 2012, 2:44 pm

You need to read the Gneva convintion papers and wake up

    • Doug Spencer July 28, 2012, 6:15 am

Another dreamer. You should brush up on the ranch that was taken by the UN Biosphere (Bios Here?)Project in Utah WITH COMPENSATION by Bill Clinton and the gang. The rancher didn’t have the bucks to pursue a case through a bunch of courts and then get turned down because the “Supremes” found his case inconvenient. If you don’t have a real deep pocket, there is little justice in this country when the government predates upon the citizens as they did in this case and will do once the ATT ink has dried.

  • Alkemyst July 23, 2012, 12:35 pm

If this treaty is accepted and allowed to stand, I would submit that we will have come to the end of the great experiment called the United States of America. The politicians will grandstand and wax eloquent that it is not so, but if the 2nd Amendment is effectively nullified, complete nullification of the remaining 9 is only a matter of time, presuming (as some have already argued) that much of that hallowed document isn’t already a hollow document. It has been reported that 58 senators have already said they will not ratify this treaty. I pray this to be true, as 58 senators against is already more than enough to defeat ratification. But they will try again, and on that day, if the gun control advocates should ever succeed, they will create 150 million criminals by virtue of nothing more than an exercise of what was supposed to have been a right guaranteed to us. I have no desire to fight a war on my own home soil. I’ve already been plenty close enough to war on someone else’s. But if I must decide between governmental tyranny and a war I never wanted, then I will reluctantly choose war and defend the Constitution against a domestic enemy. Apologies in advance if this was a little too “out there”…

ATT Treaty gives Hilary’s power over the country as Secretary of State and is an interesting development of how the power is shared at the federal level. Certainly not what the Constitution says less we forget.
I wrote to my Senators the following as I feel this opens Pandora’s box to circumvent our constitution.
Please do not vote for this treaty it is a very dangerous and slick way to circumvent this nations sovereignty, State rights, and the rights of each citizen under the constitution. What seems a good idea here is not as this makes this nation subject to rule by the U.N. and supper-seeds the Constitution.

Redemption is important for all us, or whats the incentive to join the team if punishment and fear are the only motivators. Negative motivation works for awhile but positive motivation gain commitment from hearts and minds to go forward for a better world for us and those around us.

  • johnnie July 23, 2012, 12:31 pm

any elected official who votes for the gun ban treaty from the un is voting against the constitution they swore to uphold. thus said, they have committed treason, in my narrow opinion, and we all know the penalty for treason is death.
well at least removed from office but not reelecting them. the former is against the law unless done by the courts and we all know how that works in the favor of the politician.

  • TOMMY July 23, 2012, 11:58 am

I have completed step 1 ( maybe it will help lol) I contacted our local elected Senator, I would suggest we all do that SOON. We are in danger of loosing our 2nd Amendment right that our fore fathers belived and our military fight for everyday. If we loose this battle, what will be next ?? Freedom of speech ? Lets vote out a President (really does not deserve that title, dictator is more like it) that only cares about shaming this Great Nation. Its time to come together as our fore fathers did and FIGHT for our God given rights. Lets keep AMERICA free and clean up those who want to take them away. VOTE THEM OUT. If not a second revolution is on the way. Stock up. GOD BLESS A FREE AMERICA !!!!!

  • Joe kleynowski July 23, 2012, 11:56 am

People why have we not all banded together in a group with all the assaults to our freedoms as of late in my humble opinion the sons of liberty need to be revived to watch over the government make them fear we the people we also need to get rid of the party system but thats a problem for another time

  • Patrick July 23, 2012, 11:48 am

    For Mr. Scott Seamans:

I never said I was a conservative Democrat. Stop making things up and I won’t make a joke of your name. 😉 What I stated at the beginning of my post was, “First off, let me state emphatically that I am a liberal Democrat by political leanings.” You apology has already been accepted.

I could go on more on politics but this is neither the time nor the place for it.

    • Administrator July 23, 2012, 12:16 pm

Anyone who emphatically announces that they are for or against one particular political party at this point is just painting a sign on themselves that says “I am a fool being played,” so yes, please take it elsewhere.

  • thomas pierson July 23, 2012, 11:26 am

  • Btalley July 23, 2012, 11:25 am

This is election year crap the NRA is trying to stir up. Listen to LaPierre’s
speech a he lays out Exactly why this will never happen! The UN never
Has and never will make laws that supercede the constitution.

    Period, end of story.

    • Administrator July 23, 2012, 11:35 am

Why don’t you watch the Dick Morris video and see if you can grasp how they in fact could.

      • Btalley July 23, 2012, 1:14 pm

Stop listening to Dick and go research how treaties from the UN are ratified
In the U. S. It will never happen. It’s been going on for six years now
And is in the same place it was six years ago.

    • Bill July 23, 2012, 12:48 pm

Dick Morris is making convincing, yet illogical conclusions. It’s sounds good to conspiracy nuts, but it’s garbage. No treaty can supersede the Constitution…CAN’T HAPPEN!

I applaud everyone who has commented here today. I have been carrying a firearm for 30 years. I carry for self defense and because I live in the United States where I am privileged to be able to carry lawfully. I joined a sports club several years ago. It was there that I realized I couldn’t hit a stationary bullseye to save my life. I have since qualified for and shoot at the Active Pistol range weekly. I and my wife are there several days a week shooting and volunteering. We have over 900 members and yet the ranges are practically deserted most days including weekends. If you don’t have a membership to a shooting club get one. If you have a membership use it! If you have time get involved. Do you think you could have assessed the situation that went down in Colorado then made a well placed head shot. There is a lot more to owning a firearm and thinking you can defend yourself or others. If you own a firearm then learn how to shoot it!

    • bigjoe July 23, 2012, 11:26 pm

      “I realized I couldn’t hit a stationary bullseye to save my life”….

How fortunate because i don’t believe a real situation where you need to fire accurately is ever going to remain “stationary” while you take your time to draw a bead… instead try learning to shoot intuitively on a moving target, while you yourself are in motion, then you might derive some benefit form your practice ammo….

  • Scott Seamans, Benefactor Life Member July 23, 2012, 10:59 am

Hey folks GET AN IDEA… How can you align yourselves with the likes of the Obamanation (Read about the Abomination, Mark 13:5-13, 32-37… The Gospel already predicts this guy Obama… or the Book of Revelation!) with a clear conscience?!
WOW… It’s amazing the ineptness of our political parties and followers… Starting with ONE, Bill Clinton, up through and including His Highness, King Obama!!!

Conservative Democrat? What an Oxymoron… But you are entitled to be called anything you choose!
    I’ll respect your choice ONLY!

The liberal US media completely ignored the opportunity to report that the highest court in Great Britain, ruled that the government may quarter troops in private homes and mount anti-aircraft missiles on their roofs! Who could complain? The homeowner, and his neighbors, at the door with a 12 gauge if he were allowed to possess the same! GB has done everything and everything to disarm their citizenry, in many cases, as knee-jerk reactions, following terrible multi-victim homicides (sound familiar?). The result? Higher crime, including murder. Read the article below and remember the THIRD AMENDMENT immediately follows the SECOND for a reason! “No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law”. Instead of giving this guy ton’s of coverage from the liberal, bleeding heart, anal retentive media, and making him a topic of so much coverage,,,
it’s clear that he is guilty, a quick trial and at noon on Saturday next, on National Access TV, give him a long drop on a short rope, just like it would have been 100 years ago,,,
    then this shit would stop,
instead, we continue to see his ugly ginning face over and over as he has his moment of fame.
And if more responsible, sane people, OPENLY carried a side arm, and when something like this happened… if someone would have stood up and shot the asshole dead in his tracks, the next asshole would think twice before trying the same thing.
But too many people in this country have become sheep and allow themselves to be lead around by the media and all the politically correct fools that we elect, we’ve given away our backbone that built this country.
I figure that sooner or later, the gun grabbers like clinton will accomplish their goals, because we sheep will become complacent, and they will never give up…
I am afraid for our children, if we don’t find the courage soon to turn things around, we are all screwed…

  • James July 23, 2012, 9:49 am

We gun owners who know about the UN gun ban need to contact as many of our fellow gun owners as possible today and let them know what’s at stake here, and to insist they get involved by at least making that phone call to their Senators today, we have to put the pressure on.If this treaty does not pass, I will be surprised. I HATE saying that, but remember what we are dealing with here people. The Obama Administration got the so-called Obama health”care” bill pushed through. We belly ached and complained but it got shoved up our asses anyway. This Administration does what it wants! They don’t give a rat’s ass if we like it or not. The big money boys who dictate to our government what to do and when to do it, have a Global agenda planned, They want to get rid of the Constitution of the United States or at least re-write it, and our Second Amendment rights are their next target, you can bet your ass on that. Better stock up on the ammo, if ya aint already because we are in for a helluva fight.
    Long live the Wolverines!

Patrick and I agree completely. I too am a registered Democrat with a concealed carry permit in Arizona. The ideals of the Democratic party on guns is something I oppose with every fiber of my being. This ATT thing is a precursor totally eleminating legal private gun ownership of guns by the millions of Americans who DO NOT go on insane rampages, they own their guns to protect themselves and their families from those who do that sort of thingl.
    That’s why I carry mine…

  • Tom Salzer July 23, 2012, 9:32 am

Well written and informative article. However, ATT is an acronym for Arms Trade Treaty. The article calls it other names, but never seems to refer to its actual name. I found this confusing and evasive. Please use correct terminology and names if you really want reader’s attention and support.

  • Jim Schmitt July 23, 2012, 8:14 am

I think that at some time or another the Supreme Court will have to decide the legality of a Treaty that contravenes the Constitution.

  • brian July 23, 2012, 8:12 am

i am sure there are enough red blooded americans in congress to shoot this down. i’ll do my part and push my congressman to understand where i am coming from to shut this down.

as far as the first guy, i think if you are behing on child support you shoiuldn’t be black flagged. instead place a flag that says you are behind in payments. in order to purchase firearms you must be current on your child support. you should take care of the needs of your family that you created before you try to satisfy a need. the dwi i can see how a multiple abuser should be restricted. if a person has serious issues with a sustance than firearm in their hands could pose a serious threat to soceity as well as theirself.

    • Chris July 23, 2012, 6:25 pm

Wern’t you even listening? Congress has nothing to say on this issue. Senate treaty, contact your Senator.

      • DIYinSTL July 24, 2012, 12:46 pm

“Congress” covers both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The common practice of referring to a Representative as “Congressman” is mere puffery. I know that “brian” said congressman, but if contacting your congressmen means both senators and also your representative, to remind him which way the the wind is blowing, that is a good thing.

  • Michael J. Salzbrenner July 23, 2012, 7:54 am

I have contacted my Senator. I’m sure it will be of no help as I live in Iowa and my Senator does NOT have the same views as I. He was enthusiastic about the great disgrace of Health Care Reform that has been shoved down our throats. I am positive his opinion on this subject will be equally disappointing. My hope is that he will at least know, there are those of us that do NOT share his opinion. And if this ridiculous violation of our rights continues there will be a group, even if only a small group, of responsible citizens that will demand restitution.

  • Patrick July 23, 2012, 7:32 am

First off, let me state emphatically that I am a liberal Democrat by political leanings. I am also an owner of many firearms that were purchased legally. I also the bearer of a conceal and carry license in North Carolina. That said, I don’t believe that ATT has a chance in hell of passing. I am not the only liberal Democrat that feels this way. There are those in Congress that feel the same as I that there are already enough laws on the books and this will not do anything to help the issue.

Ask any Cuban American that is 65 or older about how Castro said, “Trust me. Give me your guns.” Ask any American citizen of the middle east why they came here. Saddam Hussein did the same thing. Just about every middle eastern country has a dictator that took away weapons saying, “Trust me.”

In Switzerland, when a young man turns 18, he is issued a military weapon and is required by law to maintain it until he is 40 years old when he then turns it in. You don’t see anyone fucking with Switzerland do you? During WWII the Japanese Emperor wanted to invade the US but one of his generals balked saying that everyone there has guns. I guess I am preaching to the choir. I just wanted people to know that there are liberals that feel this way.

On the massacre in Colorado: Metal detectors would not have deterred this creep. A single .40 S & W to the chest would have at least knocked him down.

This is for Stan: If you are a drunk, you don’t need to be handling firearms and if you can’t pay your child support how can you afford to buy guns????

    • Administrator July 23, 2012, 8:00 am

      • Patrick July 23, 2012, 11:34 am

I did call them about 2 weeks ago when I first heard about it from a friend. I read up on it to get the details and came to the same conclusion that you did.

    • Tex July 23, 2012, 8:44 am

LOL, I think you are one of a hand full of libs that I would LIKE!!!

We can’t all think the same way, but that’s what makes this country great. We think differently yet we work out those differences and in return everyone is good.

I couldn’t agree more with you and you’re comment to STAN. People need to learn there consequences for every action. The government didn’t take away your rights. You took it away by being stupid.

    • Matt King July 23, 2012, 9:39 am

I understand what you are saying Patrick. But we have a administration that is hell bent on removing guns from the hands of the law abiding public. That is why I had to re up my membership in the NRA and e-mailing my congressmen. I believe they will do anything to see that their agenda is completed. We can not trust them to do the right thing anymore.

    • Don Brown July 23, 2012, 2:13 pm

Just rember what the goverment has done and is trying to do now.We have a socalled pres.that has no respect for our way of life or our country. There has been a lot of people that have set back and waited for a handout. If this ATT is ratified the handout will get smaller or stop altoghter. If Obama sighns this it will be just as legal.Call all the sen.and rep.you can.

GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH.

    • rob December 30, 2012, 7:05 pm

      Patrick, reread Stan’s post.
He was comparing the criminal act to the sentencing of drunk driving or not paying child support. Not drunk and handling firearms.
Have been a Deputy Sheriff I can answer your question about child support. The same person who buys the gun for committing criminal acts or to carry illegally for protection during criminal situations (ie. during drug deals) doesn’t care about paying child support. That’s how he/she has the money.
Criminal and Law abiding are both Personal opinions and a way of thinking.
A person who owns guns legally and would never miss use them may exceed the speed limit by or 2 or 3 mph and think that’s not a big deal. Well your still violating the law regardless. Therefore they’ve just entered the category of the same person selling illegal drugs.
      Common sense / open-minded.
I’m not a Liberal, , or Republican. I am an American who is dedicated to the Constitution and rights written. Although not all laws suit me and they never can be for everyone I feel strongly that you can add to but not take away. That goes for any amendment. I don’t like that the media can do what they want but it’s part of the Constitution and I have to accept it. I would defend it even if there were a bill proposed to shut them up.

      • matt January 17, 2013, 3:16 am

Spoken as a true statesmen.I agree totally. That is what makes us who we are americas.I hear some say I am this or that.I say proudly I AM AN AMERICAN.I belive in freedom.I may not agree with them it may even discust me.The constatition was not writen to judge or to decide what was right or wrong. That instead It gives us the right to decide that for ourselves.Today we have lost sight of this.It is all cause and effect and how do we fix it. I hole heartedly agree add to not take away. These polititions today are fooling themselves if they think think they write fast enough to beat the statesmen who wrote or constitution. That ink was already dry before they were born.In closing it good to hear an elected offical that still belives in the truest of freedom for all men. I bid you good day

  • Marsha Campbell July 23, 2012, 7:28 am

This is just a sick idea. If all the good guys have their guns taken away, the only ones who will have guns are the CRIMINALS!!!! And not just any guns. They will have the AK47’s and all of the other hardcore guns. I’d name the guns but I’m not familiar with them.

    • Keith July 23, 2012, 1:56 pm

Our 2nd amendment right is something that was set forth by the forefathers of our great country. This latest ploy of the government will do nothing more than hurt the law abiding citizens. The criminals will always be able to obtain any number of weapons. With that said,we the people(who abide by the laws, work to earn our money, and value those posession for which we have worked hard for…) demand that OUR government leave our RIGHT to protect our family, home and posessions alone. The government should be more focused on how stop the criminals that have all but taken over this country. Get the weapons out of there(the criminals) hands first !!!!!

  • Raymond Stone July 23, 2012, 6:49 am

I will live free and die free if we are going to turn into 1939 germany give me death

    • Norcross July 26, 2012, 2:45 pm

A lot of people like to say things like that – and it probably makes you feel good to think that it’s true now while it is still theoretical. But when it comes down to registering your guns with a promise that they won’t be taken away, or going to jail for several years (and not incidentally, losing your right to own weapons – or vote, or many other things – in the process), practically everyone will choose to comply.

A good way to tell – if you are one of the people who instinctively says “Hell no! I’ll never give in!”, then you are probably going to give in. True resisters don’t react that way, but it is one of the most common reactions for people that want to sound macho while there is no risk to doing so.

PS – I am a realist. I don’t want this treaty to pass, but if it does I will not destroy my family just to avoid registering a piece of property. Instead I will try to elect some politicians with the balls to get rid of the treaty before it morphs from registration to confiscation. People that violate the law will give gun-grabbers even more ammunition to “prove” that we need to move to confiscation more quickly, taking away what we would need most – time to hold another election will be far more helpful than a cache of illegal weapons.

I believe that would be a bad idea, Norcross. By giving in an inch, you help push the rest of the country toward the inevitable. By gambling on someone ELSE to have the testicles (instead of yourself), you do the exact thing that the masses do, which brings the destruction closer to home. What this country needs is to pull together and stand VERY STRONG on these subjects, not giving an inch! The trouble is that it is never comfortable to stand up to a bully who might turn and thump you. But if everyone will rise together, the bully (wrong-thinking government officials) will indeed run. “Together, we stand; divided, we fall.” It’s the truth.

Calm down, no treaty can supersede US Law. This is a giant red herring designed to line the pockets of the NRA“This [Supreme] Court has regularly and uniformly recognized the supremacy of the Constitution over a treaty.” – Reid v. Covert, October 1956, 354 U.S. 1, at pg 17.”

    • Steve August 15, 2012, 9:11 pm

This is just more ridiculous propaganda designed to fill the pockets of the NRA.NO TREATY CAN SUPERSEDE THE CONSTITUTION!!!! Ever. End of story.Jesus people, you have the sum total of human knowledge available at your fingertips, try to use it.

Hate to say it Steve but all it takes is Congress to propose a bill and it gets put in the books. Now it’s a law. Law abiding citizens comply. Bam, superseded!!!!
Why are we even arguing our Constitution with the UN anyhow? I’ll tell you why. It’s in the UN “agenda” to make America not be the strong arm of the world and to be the one-world-leader that’s why. Obama is deliberately helping it happen.
Anybody noticing bicycle lanes taking over whole lanes in cities recently?
Don’t believe it….. Look it up. Take note the UN Agenda compared to everything Obama has changed. Coincidence? I think not.
Maybe it’s time to exercise impeachment.

  • Stanley McCrary July 23, 2012, 12:05 am

Hello my name as stated before is Stanley McCrary I am an American citizen and I feel that our government ignores our original rights that were established by our fore fathers. I have a felony in the US and my right to legally possess a fire arm has been taken away federally. To me this an act of tyranny and a blatant deception of what the 2nd amendment clearly states, THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. I have tried to re-enlist in the military as a form of redemption to give back what I have taken from this country in order to earn back my privileges. The only true problem I see with the loss of this privilege is that it is taken from non violent offenses such as DWI’s, Child Support, etc. How can I trust a government that does not follow the laws that were set forth by our fore fathers in order to suppress tyranny and promote freedom? How can people set back and allow another country to run ours? We do not promote good character, but suppress it by awarding those who manipulate the system. I strongly believe that our country needs wake up call and for all the individuals who do not have the guts, think of the patriots and those who signed the declaration of independence, 13 colonies against a world power Great Britain. They risked their lives so you could be able to speak your opinion and vote for your beliefs, not so you could lay back and abuse these privileges that so many gave their life for.

Many feel your frustration, but it comes down to a few problems one of which is funding. Many of the men whom initiated this nations bid for freedom were quite wealthy with principal and purpose. Unfortunately in todays time the wealthy are mostly about being more wealthy and are not really interested in principal, their viewpoint is that they have the resource to go wherever and whenever they please (an exit strategy).
It is awful to consider where we have arrived as a country just awful. The federal government has divided this nation so thouroughly and so completely that I fear a total collapse is the only hope for rebirth as a constitutional republic. The problem is that is not so simple, because of the complete separation of ideology that exists today. A great conflict on many levels would rage for decades to ultimately decide the direction of this land.
Consider that most of us that believe in the constitution and individual liberty requires individual accountability and resposibility right now we are OK, we pay our bills we have things and are able to feed our families.
What we struggle with is the future, we see where things are heading ( logical progression) and it does not bode well. We know that action now would be better than later, but that requires a direction and a goal. The goal must be to restore the constitutional republic, but whom would make those judgements? The argument against us would be that we have this structure in place even though we see the constitution trampled almost daily, this is the most obvious demonstration of our division in ideaology. We as a nation are torn down the middle. It is the firm belief of many including myself that our electoral process has be compromised. Case in point our present presedential elections, Mitt Romney??? Really?? out of all of this great land Mitt Romney. This is just one example we could go on for days, but essentially we do not decide our candidates any longer they are selected for us and media propoganda ultimately gives us our front runner. Do you feel properly represented?? I have not in decades remember even russia has elections and we have adopted that model. That brings me back to the assertion that only a collapse will allow the (possibility) of rebirth as a constitutional republic.
My sincere apologies to Mr. Franklin, sir we could not keep it.

Stan, I am a responsible and proud gun owner and also a moderate liberal. I fully understand, and I think most educated individuals on this forum understand the responsibilities that come with being not only a gun owner but a law abiding citizen which guarantee certain rights and “privileges” under the auspices of our Bill of Rights and the Constitution! The two examples you provided, DWI & Child Support violations, are typically not felony crimes unless excessive and gross disregard has been shown of these laws or court-ordered actions and have been intentionally violated and disregarded. If You lost your rights and privileges because of YOUR OWN ACTIONS, I can offer no sympathy because you CHOSE to minimize the value of human life by getting into a motorized deadly weapon when the operator is incapacitated and failed to be responsible to our most valuable assets, our children. Our forefathers sacrificed many things including their lives to establish a fair and equitable society (they of course didn’t get everything right in the beginning – ex: slavery & women’s rights) but it was a great foundation for those who abided by the laws of the land at that time. Your words might have greater impact by educating/teaching our youth (or any age for that matter) the importance of observing and adhering to our Countrys’ laws in order to keep and appreciate the great privileges that come with being responsible, law abiding citizens!
