The Mossberg 500 and 590 series shotguns are the most popular shotguns on the planet. They come in every configuration and color you could imagine, and Mossberg has just introduced a new system called “FLEX” that allows you to make your 500 or 590 into any other configuration you want with no tools. You just have to buy the parts, then they clip in based on a new attaching system. The buttstock, foregrip, and pistol grip can be swapped in and out with no effort at all. And as with all 500/590 guns, the barrel is easy to swap out. So you can go from a duck gun to a home defense gun in about 30 seconds, all on the same receiver. The base price on the FLEX guns in the 500 looks to be just under $600 MSRP, and the 590 Tactical 9 shot with the rail front has an MSRP of $816. Hopefully we’ll get a review gun at some point to check out these new modular guns from Mossberg. It is a great idea and they should be a big success.

No word yet on when these guns will be available for sale, but we expect them soon.

I bought a 500 bantom 20 ga. for my son to use for turkey and deer hunting. He is a lefty , but handles the gun very well shooting clay birds ( he is 10 years old.). The only thing I would change about the gun is the trigger, it has no creep but just too much pull. The action is very smooth and has not failed to fire cheap shells( aluminum cased heads ).
The gun holds a good pattern with cheap shells and awesome groups with the deer barrel. This gun gives parents an option for younger shooter to get in the sport or begin hunting. I would like to add at a price that the working public can afford too. This new flex model may be what I will go to when my Daughter is ready for a shot gun. She likes the .22 cal. for now.

Bought the 500 Flex and I have say it is hands down without a doubt the best shotgun I have ever owned. I absolutly love it. After 14 years in the Army, and multipule combat tours, this is a weapons system that any Soldier could appreciate in not as a personal use gun but a field worthy companion. If you dont have one, get one. If you have one, theres always room for one more!

I did such a great job explaining the Flex 500 to a young Air Force Lt at the local base exchange that he bought it on the spot! After that I realized I had fully convinced myself at the same time so I bought the second (and only one left now) right after he finished buying his. Took it home, cleaned it, ran out to a friends house out of town, fired off half a box (now he is bugging BX to get some more in), came home, cleaned it again and now cant wait to get back out and make those viscious rabbits pay for there trespassings. Hoping to be able to get some of the other components soon.

    Hello,
I am interested in Mr Biden’s suggestion, and would like to buy a Mossberg flex 590 system/ in black and would like some basic information please. I live in South west Missouri and would like to know where I might take a look. I live 60 miles north of Springfield and 100 miles south of Kansas City. In the middle of no where. I am interested in the Lego Shotgun system.
    Thanks so much.
    Patti

    • robbie February 26, 2013, 11:22 am

have you found the attachment your looking for.. i am looking for the same thing and cannot find one..

  • Ben December 7, 2012, 11:13 am

How in the hell do you buy the different stocks and barrels and stuff. I have the flex and I want a pistol grip too… anyone?

  • Adam Bartels November 16, 2012, 9:15 pm

I just got my 590 Flex tactical with an additional 24″ rifled slug barrel. With 3″ sabot rounds and a BSA optical sight I can place a 12″ group at 150 yards on a bench. Standing I can do the same at 100 yards. In home it’s the stock 20″ barrel loaded 8+1 with alternating 00 and slugs. My BSA sight also has a laser and micro 200 lumen flashlight on the chassis. The 590 Flex is a kick-ass weapon.

Will you ever make a mossy oak camo adjustable tactical because I kown a lot of people that want to buy one but can’t find it including me.

  • nathan September 28, 2012, 2:25 pm

i purchased my new mossberg 500 flex in realtree advantage max-4 camo at the same price you would pay for the standard model 500 in camo. if you can find it for the same price its totally worth having the flex options available for those just incase moments.

  • Thomas Mitch February 1, 2012, 6:03 pm

Will the Mossberg 500/590 feed the Aguila 1-1/2 inch or Centurion 2 inch shot shell?

  • Cort February 1, 2012, 5:06 pm

How much do you guys think the attachment for preexisting guns is gonna cost?

  • Russ February 1, 2012, 11:20 am

Please, please, keep pursuing whether or not Mossberg will do something so I can use this modular gear on my existing 590 Persuader.

  • rip February 1, 2012, 11:09 am

    if there’s a retro fit for exsisting 500 and 590 ‘s i’m in!!

  • Steve Bennett February 1, 2012, 10:53 am

Wow! Great integrated system… this should further lock in Moss’s future marketplace… hard to invest elsewhere, with this capability: on my “buy” list now!

  • Wallace February 1, 2012, 10:22 am

Hope they will I have a Mossy at home with 28″ barrel with chokes from skeet thru xtra full. If they make the add ons that will fit it this will be my one shotgun. House gun unless I head out to do a little hunting. That would be pretty neat!

    • David Wright February 1, 2012, 11:14 am

Alan Mossberg just lives down the way from me, we met at a local gun shop where I was explaining the 590a1s advantages over the Remmington 870. We all know the 500 and 590 both are based off a model 37, that Mossberg made work 10x better! Its an FAMILY OWNED AND OPPERATED BUISNESS!!!!! FIELD PROVEN SINCE 1919 And it wont FTE in sub zero temps, something the 870s known for. And no studder durring rapid fire like the 870. Ive got alot of friends at MOSSBERG. And yes the FLEX SYSTOM parts will be availible for other 500s and 590s later on this year, so ive bin told. Remmember support your small buisnessmen in this country! Ohhh yeah customer service is one of the best in the gun industry, if not the best!!! JUST BUY ONE, THATS ALL IT TAKES!

  • Boyce Hamer February 1, 2012, 10:16 am

Looks like Mossberg is moving to top of the pack in pump shotguns ! Wish I had one on my 590a1 !

    • Administrator February 1, 2012, 10:18 am

Were they ever not at the top of the pack?

  • Brent Akin February 1, 2012, 9:42 am

    Cool!

If you follow the link, it appears the Flex attachment stub is what you bolt to the rifle, and then attach the stocks to that. So I don’t see why it couldn’t be retro-fitted. The forend appears the same way, there is a sub-part that attaches to the slide rails, that the modular part locks onto. I hope to see them in stores so I can play with one.

  • Mark Stone February 1, 2012, 8:30 am

Sure hope you’ll be able to use the attachment system to retro-fit to existing receivers. Otherwise I’ll be going with the original plan of a ATI adjustable buttstock…

  • Brandon bose February 1, 2012, 8:28 am

    Awesome!!

  • William Dixon February 1, 2012, 7:56 am

I just got a 590 this past summer. Will it “FLEX” or is this something different?

    • Administrator February 1, 2012, 8:30 am

Hopefully we will find out if Mossberg is going to sell the hardware to adapt existing 500 and 590 guns to the new FLEX system. I expect they will.

    • Miles July 16, 2012, 5:48 pm

From what I understand the flex is a whole new platform with quick disconnects built into the gun which is what allows the no-tool swapping. I imagine that existing receivers will not have the required quick disconnect slots for the new flex attachments and therefore would not be compatible. Of course thisnisnall speculation based on how I understood it. But it does seem that the flex is a new 500 platform in itself much like the 500 tactile or the 500 security.

      • Miles July 16, 2012, 5:51 pm

Actually I just found out through a little research that you can retrofit your current platform but it changes it to the flex so in essence the flexmismotsnown platform but you can replace the forend and buttstock with the parts from the flex and use the flex attachments just as you would replace them with any aftermarket parts

  • rob deeter February 1, 2012, 7:43 am

pretty darn cool! About time they leaped forward. Good job!
