Mossberg is expanding its rotary-safety pump lineup with two new defensive-focused models that lean hard into compact handling and modern ergonomics. The company has officially introduced the 590R Chisel and 590RM Chisel, adding premium configurations to the 590R/RM platform through a collaboration with Chisel Machining.

Both shotguns build on Mossberg’s newer pistol-grip rotary safety system. This places the safety where it can actually be reached without breaking your firing grip. That design alone has made the 590R/RM line stand out from traditional Mossberg pumps. And these new Chisel-equipped variants double down on usability and compactness.

The 590R Chisel is the more traditional of the two. It runs an 18.5-inch barrel with an integrated heat shield. It’s paired with a Chisel Machining folding stock mount, giving the shotgun a solid shoulder-fired setup while allowing it to fold down for easier storage or transport. The Flat Dark Earth Cerakote receiver adds corrosion resistance and gives the gun a distinctly modern, duty-style look.

The 590RM Chisel, on the other hand, is built for tight spaces and maximum maneuverability. It features an 11.5-inch barrel and feeds from a 10-round detachable magazine. It offers fast reloads and a compact footprint that’s clearly aimed at defensive and tactical roles. Like the 590R Chisel, it also wears the Chisel folding stock mount and Flat Dark Earth Cerakote finish for consistency across the lineup.

Both models share a long list of familiar Mossberg features, including the ambidextrous rotary safety, Magpul MOE+ pistol grip, top-mounted Picatinny rail, elongated bolt release, and Mossberg’s adjustable stock system with eight length-of-pull positions. Internals and externals are E-coated for durability. And the flat-profile trigger is designed for a smooth, predictable break.

The 590R Chisel also retains its enlarged, beveled loading port and extended follower to make topping off the tube faster and less frustrating under stress. The folding stock setup on both guns adds flexibility without turning them into range toys. These are still very much built around practical use.

Chisel Machining’s involvement is obvious in the hardware. The folding stock mount reflects the company’s reputation for overbuilt, precision-machined components designed for real-world abuse rather than aesthetics alone.

With the 590R/RM Chisel models, Mossberg continues to refine its modern pump-action lineup, offering shooters compact, adaptable configurations that feel purpose-built instead of gimmicky. Whether you prefer a tube-fed classic or a magazine-fed bruiser, these new additions give the 590R/RM family some serious edge.
