U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (D-RI) introduced three bills this week that supposedly seek to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals.
A founding member of Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Rep. Cicilline cited the recent church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, as his impetus behind this latest push to strengthen gun laws.
“We have to do more as a country to address our problem with gun violence – on average, 30 Americans are killed each day with a gun. This just doesn’t happen in other developed countries,” said Cicilline, referencing president Obama’s flawed comparison between European gun laws and American gun laws.
“I have introduced three bills that will help to keep guns away from children, criminals, and those with serious mental illness, when possessing a gun is a danger to the individual or others,” he added. “While I understand that some in Congress would prefer not to have this debate right now, it is critical that we find the political will to finally address these urgent concerns.”
His three bills include:
- The End Purchase of Firearms by Dangerous Individuals Act (H.R. 2917) would require that all 50 states provide information to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System on individuals who are committed to a mental institution or who express a threat of violence to a mental health professional. The proposal is co-sponsored by Congressman Raul Grijalva (D-NM) and Congressman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR).
- The Fire Sale Loophole Closing Act (H.R. 2916) would end the practice by which gun dealers who lose their license can convert their entire inventory to a “personal inventory” in order to liquidate it without conducting background checks on their customers. The bill is co-sponsored by 34 of Cicilline’s colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives.
- H. Con. Res. 59, a concurrent resolution that supports designating June 21 each year as National ASK (Asking Saves Kids) Day. National ASK Day encourages parents to ask other parents if their child will be playing in a house with an unsecured gun. The goals of the National ASK Day initiative have been endorsed by Head Start, the American Public Health Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
In addition to introducing these three bills, Cicilline is a co-sponsor of “the Gun Show Loophole Closing Act to require criminal background checks on firearms transactions conducted at gun shows; the Protecting Domestic Violence and Stalking Victims Act to prohibit current and former abusive dating partners from owning a firearms; and the Pause for Safety Act to allow families to seek a gun violence prevention order to stop someone close to them from purchasing a firearm if they are a threat to themselves or others.”
You know, while some of these sound good in theory there is no doubt that if they were enacted they would have negative ramifications for law-abiding gun owners. The gun-grabbers are clever, they know if they start with an inch here and an inch there pretty soon they’ll have miles of ground covered and the Second Amendment will be a privilege instead of a right — just like in Europe, which is their template for the future of gun ownership in the U.S.
Do what is absolutely best for the United States and VOTE FOR DONALD TRUMP and PROGUN REPUBLICANS !! Many idiot Democrats, such as Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer, Gov. Brown of California, Gov. Brown of Oregon, Gov. Inslee of Washington, Tim Kaine, Maura Healey, Chucky Schumer, Susan Collins, Rep. David N. Cicilline of Rhode Island who is a gun-grabber and founder of Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns, etc. should be voted out at the earliest opportunity, and their supporters, Bloomberg who is a billionaire with several Democrat politicians in his pocket who contributed $300,000,000 for his gun-grabber plan and convinced “news” anchor Katie Couric to do the gun-grabber part of the network “news” in a way that would make pro Second Amendment people seem to look confused and stupid, Soros who is a gun grabbing fanatic and a good friend of Hillary owns Progressive insurance, Katie Couric who tried to contrive the network “news” to help the Bloomberg gun grabbing effort, Warren Buffet, Holder, Obama, Harry Reid, Lynch, etc., should be recognized as radical gun grabber radicals who do not support the Second Amendment. These gun-grabber radicals want Second Amendment RIGHTS to be considered a “privilege” which would give them more control. These people want to control the Second Amendment and change it to be as they desire so Americans would be disarmed and defenseless like the people of Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
Give it serious thought and don’t forget, THE LIAR AND CORRUPT HILLARY IS ROTTEN TO THE CORE AND WILL DO AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, WITH THE HELP OF HER ROTTEN SUPPORTERS, TO TAKE AWAY THE RIGHTS OF THE SECOND AMENDMENT AND THAT IS THE RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS FOR PERSONAL PROTECTION AND THAT RIGHT SHOULD NOT BE INFRINGED BY DERANGED HILLARY !!!
I’m an NRA life time member and avid 2nd Amendment supporter. I totally understand the slippery slope idea when it comes to gun legislation. I live in California – for now – and have seen how the Democrats have consistently lied about their intentions when passing innocent, “public safety” legislation. I’ve seen the lies play out here in California. HOWEVER, if we are serious about keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill and criminals, how do we do that without passing some kind of reasonable laws and checks? I believe that pro- and anti-gun groups need to start working together on some reasonable legislation and build trust on vital issues. The time for blanket rejections just because we don’t like the other side needs to stop. I believe that if the NRA and Republican Party (who are our 2nd A protectors) counter the Democrats and anti-gunners with their own more reasonable and honest proposals to protect against criminals and mentally ill it will go a long way in winning over public opinion. Reason has to give way to emotions.
Nope. The only way is freedom. You cannot compromise with these socialists democrats.. If you do, everyone will loose all their rights. If they don’t like this country, LEAVE. They are the ones trying to change it from what it fundamentally was founded on. So if they don’t like it….LEAVE! No one is making you stay. Go to England or other countries where freedom has been stripped from the people if you don’t like it here. But leave America the way it was intended.
I would think that the democrat lefty tree huggers who are so eager to adopt the UN agenda of population control would stop trying to save everyone and allow natural selection to take its course. Maybe someone told them that they would loose the most people if that happens….? The movie “Idiocracy” comes to mind…..too much lately thanks to our current regime.
