Dakota Meyer, a former Marine and Medal of Honor recipient, addressed the shooting in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Thursday that left four Marines dead and several others injured.
Needless to say, he did not embrace the gun-control movement’s call for tougher gun laws.
From his Facebook Page:
Just a few hours ago Chattanooga, TN was struck with tragedy as four United States Marines were shot and killed and one Law Enforcement Office was wounded in attacks on a Navy/Marine Corps recruiting office and Navy Reserve center. First and foremost my thoughts and prayers go out to the families those four Marines left behind. This incident IS an act of domestic terrorism, regardless of how Washington spins it, regardless of what nationality, color, creed, or otherwise the shooter was. This was a planned attack on the United Stated Military on United States soil. Now is not the time to come out waiving photos of bullet holes in the glass calling for more gun control and spinning the story to yield a further separation of peoples in the Unites States. Now is the time for a call on the American people to finally realize the state of the world we are living in and the enemy that we face. Now is the time to call on the American people to ignore the propaganda that special interest groups have been shoving in our faces and unite as a country so that we may become our neighbor’s keeper. Evil is not just overseas, but also here at home. Moments after this tragedy had occurred ISIS sent out via Twitter that they were responsible for the attacks and that the shooter, Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez was one of theirs. ISIS said recently that they were coming to American soil to kill members of the United States Military and now that threat has come to fruition.
I, for one, do not plan to give away by ability to defend myself and those I care about. I carry a firearm with me at all times legally under the conceal and carry laws in the area that I am in. I do not call for a disarming of American but instead a full institution of the 2nd Amendment so that we may defend ourselves as a country from all threats, both foreign and domestic. The threat is here, this is real, and this will not be the end of it.
Just wondering– why do we have squads of M-4 armed military (national guard I presume) patrolling the nations airports and NOT the recruiting offices? PC? First I doubt the mags or chambers of their weapons are loaded, second, they’re the worst choice for C/T (counterterrorism) you could come up with (in Central & South America they use micro Uzi much better weapon for that role) finally- what would happen if a recruiter violated SOP & had a .45 and stopped a massacre? Would he be charged? Article 15? (I’m not military) at least he’d be alive…
Just sayin…
While we are contemplating requiring women to register with Selective service, ostensibly to be better prepared to protect our great country, why don’t we require all eligible citizens to undergo basic firearm training. After all,if we suddenly need to call young people to defend our way of life, they should have at least a minimal amount of familiarity with the tools they will be using to do that job. Of course, if I were more cynical, I might think that was just a ploy to keep tabs on the other half of our subjects.
I don’t care who you are. Whether you’re a civilian, soldier, LEO. Anyone who kills a criminal, of any kind be it terrorist or thug, in the defense of others should be awarded a medal.
Excellent essay and comments. Good examination of the fact that one doesn’t “win” the MOA. I just want to add that there is no such thing as a “former” or “ex” Marine. My dad-in-law, his brothers and my cousin were Marines from the time they took the oath to the day they died. They were no longer on active duty. My wife and I served in the Peace Corps in Cote D’Ivoire. We are oldies now but we are still Peace Corps volunteers (returned).
I am still an Eagle Scout. They can’t take these things away from you unless you break your oath. Just like being a Citizen of the United States of America. Be Prepared. Arm Yourself. Do Unto Others As you Would Have Them Do Unto You. Find a reason to smile, or make one. The Old Curmudgeon
Here is an idea – why not issue a gun to every law abiding household in this country; then train them on how to use it. I am a Viet Nam vet, and have owned one gun or another most of my life. From childhood to old age, I am and have been armed and will remain armed regardless of any unconstitutional law or ordinance. If it becomes illegal to own a gun in this country, then I will still not be breaking any law because it is guaranteed in the Constitution that my right to own weapons SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. That means, no law can Constitutionally made to interfere or restrict my right to own and bear arms. While to some ignorant people I might then be a law breaker, I will still never give up my arsenal.
It is known that the reason the Japanese did not try to actually invade the US at the beginning of WW2 is they believed “there was someone with a gun behind every blade of grass’. We are free because we fought for our freedom, we remain free because we are armed, and people know it.
Sorry about the source of the aforementioned photo, but this was easy to find, and the accompanying article MAY be telling in some aspect……
http://www.inquisitr.com/2258285/chattanooga-shooting-bullet-riddled-glass-door-with-gun-free-zone-sign-at-office-where-shooting-took-place-sparks-debate/
Did anyone see the photos of the bullet holes in the glass door of the Recruitment office that had the unmistakable “NO GUNS ALLOWED” sticker prominently displayed beside the door handle so that it could NOT be mistaken whether this was a “criminal acts expected” zone? Look for it, unless it has been scrubbed from posterity the photo is out there.
I believe the criminal obliged them – he never passed through the doors. This demonstrates that those promoting “gun free zones” (Including whoever ordered that sign put on the door) are completely detached from reality.

Not long after one of these abominable acts I followed a link to Petition.gov and added my signature to a document which is supposed to be presented to law makers if it generates enough interest, sorrowfully this one seems to be rapidly approaching the point in time where it just may die-on-the-vine.
If all it takes is a 100,000 signatures , why does a common-sense proposal such as this barely have 6400 adherents to it’s cause?
Did I fail to read and comprehend some poison-pill aspect of it’s wording? I don’t believe so.
There is a higher likely-hood that simple laziness prevailed, or is there really a true “lack-of-concern since this doesn’t directly affect me” mindset?
That is EXACTLY what Anti-s of every persuasion are hoping for.
If we don’t unite we will ALL lose a hard-fought recognition of that god given freedom as is outlined in that historic document (our Bill of Rights) that seems so be at such odds of late..
Please excuse any failure on my part in the choice of words for this post, but I think anyone bothering to read it will get the gist….

Charles. No I haven’t went to the web sites and have no desire to do so. Are you naive enough to think a petition is going to make lawmakers listen? Try forming a lobby group with unimaginable sums of money to get the to do something. Otherwise sir, you’re just urinating up a rope.
I agree with Dakota Meyer!!!
AMEN Brother Dakota Meyer!! You are a true “PATRIOT”. THANKS!!
I salute you Staff Sergeant Myers. Thank you for your service to our country. We are fighting domestic aggression first, i.e., this despicable regime. Until they’re out of the way, we cannot fully deal with the savages that are bound on killing us. These savages are being protected by this government. And, it’s not just Hussin, it’s all three branches of government.
I myself, a 26-year Army veteran, sit at my desk working at a nonsensical “Gun Free Zone” while my concealed as well as open carry firearms are tucked away in my vehicle in the parking lot. I pray I can make it to them when the time comes.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Without my rifle I am useless. I am pretty sure that statement has been said by every marine in this country. This should never happen. The only reason it did is because the public is scared of guns after the misinterpreted lies that the media cooks up. This is time to march on Washington and say enough is enough. All of these new gun laws don’t effect people who break them only honest people who are forced to follow them. Gun free zones are pretty much an all clear for active shooters why they exist is pure stupidity and these slaughtered young men would be alive if the liberals didn’t give this guy the opportunity and safety of a gun free zone. It makes me sick that the first thing people are talking about is gun control in the wake of this atrocity. Turning it into something political for personal satisfaction is what they do every time this happens. Every marine is a rifleman, soo give them their f!#/^&* rifles and we won’t have this problem anymore. If there isn’t enough mps then hire more people and stop cutting budgets that cost lives.
Well Said! Would love to see these comments also get more national attention. But I doubt the minion media will even touch this.
A tragedy of the worst kind. Time to take off the kid gloves and handle this situation before more of these tragedies happen. I also believe, like MANY others, this is ONLY the beginning. Doesn’t matter what they call themselves or what religion they are…..this HAS to stop….And you can’t do it by passing laws or signing papers. Some of the first words I heard when I deployed to Iraq was by a Lt Col giving us a briefing saying, “You have the inherent right to defend yourself”. But we loose that right in our home land…??? The very country we fight for….???? How SICK is that? Yet ANOTHER tragedy in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. FREE THE TROOPS!!!! Untie their hands! Somebody Start a hashtag movement….#FREE THE TROOPS.
Interesting thought. You are an American before you are a soldier. Americans are theoretically FREE…..but when you become a warrior for your country, the very freedoms that you are fighting for are taken away. Hmmm?!?!? Oxymoron??
Sir,
To your final thought – when a US citizen enters into a contractual term of service with any of the military branches, they become, legally, the property of the US government. “GI” = “Government Issue”. As someone who received an Article 15 disciplinary action for getting a tattoo when I was a 19 – year-old 11B, I know this for a fact. The formal complaint was “Defacing government property”. As a soldier, airman, sailor, or Marine, you stand outside the definition of “citizen”, and your legal framework becomes the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), which takes precedence over (but does not supercede in all cases and circumstances) local, state and federal laws in the jurisdiction of your location, should you happen to be posted stateside.
Mr. Blannelberry:
Sir . . . One does not WIN the Medal of Honor. They “earn” it. Please do not denigrate these amazing people by saying the are MOH “WINNERS” . . . they are RECEIPIENTS. They didn’t buy a MOH lotto ticket.
Respectfully, Robert Dawson
You’re absolutely right. I caught it in the body of the article as I was writing it but never changed the title. I’ll fix it now. Thanks!
