McConaughey Slammed for Exploiting Uvalde Tragedy in Esquire Piece

in Current Events, This Week

Hollywood celebrity Matthew McConaughey is taking heat this week for a piece published in Esquire that details a trip back to his hometown of Uvalde, Texas following the tragedy at Robb Elementary School in May of this year.

McConaughey immediately became an outspoken supporter of gun control after the incident that left 22 dead, including the perpetrator, and dozens more injured.

In June, the actor gave an emotionally-wrought address from the White House to advocate for tougher gun laws, which was praised by many in the mainstream media.

McConaughey called for policies like universal background checks, waiting periods, a federal red flag law, and purchase-age restrictions for modern sporting rifles.

While many in the 2A community disagreed with the “solutions” McConaughey was putting forth, it was hard to dismiss his intense and seemingly earnest desire to bring about an end to mass school shootings — a sentiment we all share.

However, any headway McConaughey may have made in bringing the two sides together is arguably in jeopardy in the wake of his Esquire piece.

As Leland Vittert of NewsNation argued the article, apart from being rather self-indulgent, shamelessly exploits the tragedy for financial gain.

Vittert observed:

So now the magazine cover. What does a popped collar and pocket square have to do with Uvalde, who knows? Or his rolling one sleeve and in the water is a metaphor for who knows what. We found it on Instagram. ‘I hope I told it well.’ Then he tagged the stylist, groomer, visual director and a few others.  Nothing says selfless warrior for the common man like tagging your groomer.

Vittert continues, “It’s not about the kids or the guns or anything else. It’s about him. When you tag the groomer in social media posts, it’s pretty clear you don’t understand the hell 21 families in Uvalde live in every day.  For you, it’s just another cover shoot.”

What are your thoughts? Do believe McConaughey undermined his gun-control advocacy with this Esquire article?

He’s pretty much an asshole but I did like him in U-571.

All about myself. That is what this is about. Stay in Hollywierd with the rest of the “all about me glamor kings and queens”.

A fading star desperate for 15 more minutes of fame. Needs to go back to his nude bongo playing days.

Wow greast video, Leland Vittert not only shredded M. McConaughey but as a bonus he tossed in that fake freedom fighter in THE Ukraine.

Minister of culture at UT in Austin. Don’t forget that BEVO is a steer.

I think that this article(have not read the entirety)McConaughey and Jones are sort of an analogy. It is sad to see this POS and “Beto” take advantage of a horrific situation. Instead, shut up and donate the money you made from this vacuous article. All of you Hollywood types….put up or shut up. You are in a position to do a great many good things and instead live in a parallel universe thinking you are special. You bleed just like they did and everyone of those parents, siblings and grandparents, uncles, aunts are changed forever. We live in very unusual and sometimes very trying times that are extremely difficult to understand.

We don’t want him back in Texas. Don’t worry about your roots, you pigeon turd. Just stay in Califlakeville with your emotional supporters.

Why is anyone listening to that rich idiot ?
    He doesn’t have a regular job , doesn’t have
to worry about paying his bills , or mortgage .
No worries about feeding his family , the cost
of gas or heating his home are irrelevant to
    him .
He doesn’t live in the same world everyday
Citizens do . Why should we care what he thinks ?
He’s part of the rich elite , not a normal human being .

    • Rog October 14, 2022, 2:19 pm

Typical statement from jealous, envious folks like you. The statement that he is rich has nothing to do with anything except showing your ignorance. This is the typical divide we see between the wanna-he’s that express animosity of the very successful. Get an education instead of your wallowing self-pity and ignorance.

it’s not about his money. or yours if you possess wealth.
it’s what you do with it that marks you as a decent person who should be left alone or a scumbag who needs to be crushed.
George soros would use his wealth to enslave and control you. this actor is a slightly less destructive version of soros and if misfortune befalls him I’ll point and laugh. if I found soros on fire I’d hold my bladder while I poured gasoline on him. then I would relieve myself in a place that wouldn’t put the fire out

LOL….Hey GENIUS – Jones was RICH (possibly more than the actor) !! try something new, turning your brain on momentarily and thinking before you make idiotic statements. Gawd, its people like you that are the biggest threat to our Democracy (with blustering idiocy)

      • Shanz October 14, 2022, 8:33 pm

Hey just a heads up whenever you use the term “ threat to Democracy “ it totally reveals the Commy libtard that you are. Just saying.

      • Big Al 45 October 18, 2022, 2:52 pm

        You mean our ‘Democratic institutions’???
You see, we are a Representative Republic, with democratic institutions.
We are NOT a ‘Democracy’, and to understand why, read the Federalist Papers and what most of the Founding Fathers thought of democracies.

I hope that shitbag gets sued by the parents of Uvalde for $1B. Alex Jones comes to recent memory. I don’t care for Jones but the system did him wrong. Precedent has been set though.

    • Pat October 14, 2022, 2:26 pm

Alex jones was wronged by the “system,” are you nuts…he is a hateful, greedy, sick man who is followed by others of like kind\? Nobody with any intelligence or a real education would endorse any of the garbage. this sick man spewed. There is no way in the wildest imagination can the actor be compared with jones in any category!

      • Shanz October 14, 2022, 8:42 pm

So Alex Jones ordered to pay a billion dollars for words he said.
        Yeah we’re fucked.
I’m curious can Dr Fauci be sued for the lies he told?
Oh and the guys name who shot and killed all those kids was Adam Lanza. I know Alex Jones and Remington took the heat but the actual murderer is the only one to blame.

If you want to be taken seriously about your position, do an interview with a serious journal and don’t turn it into a fashion shoot 🤷‍♂️

  • Let's go Brandon, FJB October 14, 2022, 7:36 am

Mcconaughey is a p.o.s. Hopefully the patriots of Texas don’t vote for that vermin from hollywood.
