A man in Michigan shot at an intruder this week with a crossbow.
Two suspects broke into the Monroe County home just after midnight. News outlets report that two residents were in the home at the time.
Shot With A Crossbow
The two intruders must have been noisy because one of the residents caught them. The resident, acting in self-defense within his own home, shot an intruder.
He did not use a gun though. The Michigan resident shot the intruder with a crossbow.
Police received a 911 call and reported on the scene at 12:30 a.m. WMYD Detroit reported that the intruders fled, but police found them quickly.
The Suspects
Police took the 32-year-old suspect with an arrow still embedded to a hospital. According to Fox 2, he underwent surgery for his injury while under police custody.
Police found the second suspect, a 41-year-old male, quickly. He is now waiting in jail. CBS identified both suspects as Newport residents.
Charges are still unclear, and the identities of all involved have not been publicly shared.
Some Pondering
This story is interesting for two reasons.
For one, we don’t know much about the resident or what happened inside the home. We know this is a case of self-defense. Other than that, police have not released many details.
And second, this self-defense case is one where shooting happened, but not with a gun. Instead, the resident used a crossbow.
Use A Crossbow?
If you Google the term “self-defense,” most of the results will include the words “gun use” or “krav maga.”
Now for some contrast. The Violence Policy Center says “The use of guns in self-defense by private citizens is extremely rare.”
I’m sure their study is intended to claim guns are useless. Instead, it drives home the importance of preparation and quick thinking.
It is pretty rare for self-defense to involve a crossbow. It would not be my first thought.
This resident might not have owned a gun, or might not have been close enough to one.
Application
We like to repeat the importance of owning a gun because guns are incredibly effective. But this resident obviously had to think quickly and you might have to someday too.

You never know when you will find a need to shoot a crossbow in self-defense. Or maybe it will be some other defense weapon.
In conclusion, prepare yourself in all ways possible.

Q: whats your go to self defense weapon?
A: what ever is closest to me!
Daryl Dixon uses one the Walking Dead…….I don’t see what’s wrong with it, especially if it causes more pain. Just sayin
What I want to know is this:
*was this a crossbow with a legitimate sporting purpose or was it made to resemble a high-caliber, military-grade weapon of war like the kind that Tampon Tim was issued when he was a senior-master-chief sargeant-major in the Minne-so-cold National Guard??
*Did it have a flash hider on it?
* Was it threaded to accept a muzzle device?
* Did it have a bayonet lug?
* Was it made on a 3-D printer like the plastic guns that criminals are now using all over the USA?
*Did it have a clipazine with a high capacity?
These are all valid points and the home-owner should be charged accordingly…
As long as I can legally own a firearm I can think of better things to use for home defense than a crossbow. Yes, it’ll kill someone, but too slow rate of fire even IF the perps aren’t too close to take it from you.
If I couldn’t “legally” purchase a firearm for close-in home defense, and I was afraid to drive down to the ‘hood’ to buy a piece from a hood-rat, I’d buy one of those Diablo double-barrel black power 12ga hand-cannons and pack it full of small nails. BOOM! Then after the smoke clears in about 10 minutes, you can check for bodies with soiled underwear! 😂
