A man who identified himself only as “Kem” scored big last month exploiting a state-run “buyback” in Utica, New York.
Kem told News Channel 2 that he received “$21,000 in $500 gift cards” from the New York State Attorney General’s Office.
“I 3D-printed a bunch of lower receivers and frames for different kinds of firearms,” said Kem, who said he made the cheap plastic guns on a $200 3D printer he got for Christmas.
Originally, Kem was hoping to get more as he brought a total of 110 guns with him to the event but after negotiating with organizers, settled on the $21,000. Still a great haul considering the initial investment.
News Channel 2 had asked the Attorney General’s office if it was worried about being taken advantage of weeks before this particular “buyback.”

A spokesperson did not answer the question but instead just doubled down on the program, touting what a success it’s been and that it “keeps New York families safe.”
Kem disagreed.
“I’m sure handing over $21,000 in gift cards to some punk kid after getting a bunch of plastic junk was a rousing success,” laughed Kem. “Gun buybacks are a fantastic way of showing, number one, that your policies don’t work, and, number 2, you’re creating perverse demand. You’re causing people to show up to these events, and, they don’t actually reduce crime whatsoever.”
Last Wednesday, the Attorney General’s Office responded to the report.
It’s shameful that this individual exploited a program that has successfully taken thousands of guns off the streets to protect our communities from gun violence. We have partnered with local police throughout the state to recover more than 3,500 guns, and one individual’s greedy behavior won’t tarnish our work to promote public safety. We have adjusted our policies to ensure that no one can exploit this program again for personal gain.
It’s been well documented that gun “buybacks” don’t reduce crime and that they are a complete waste of taxpayer dollars.
The fact that politicians and bureaucrats continue to praise a buyback program as an effective crime-fighting tool underscores how clueless they are or, worse, how corrupt they are in that they are willing to waste precious resources on what are, in effect, fruitless PR stunts.
A 2021 study examining gun buyback programs (GPBs) from the National Bureau of Economic Research found that “Using data from the National Incident Based Reporting System, we find no evidence that GBPs reduce gun crime.”
“Given our estimated null findings, with 95 percent confidence, we can rule out decreases in firearm-related crime of greater than 1.3 percent during the year following a buyback,” the authors of the study continued. “Using data from the National Vital Statistics System, we also find no evidence that GBPs reduce suicides or homicides where a firearm was involved.”
Congrats to Kem for the big score.
Who is gullible enough to believe this BS story. $21,000 for 110 3D guns….be for real.
ATF should be on his back for manufacturing
If, and I quote the NYS DA, “…a program that has successfully taken thousands of guns off the streets to protect our communities from gun violence.” Then why did any DA throughout NY prosecute any person because of violence with a gun? They should have been prosecuting the gun as it was the actual reason for the violence, well according to the NYS DA. Last I knew no gun could commit any action of violence on its own as it needs a human being to cause that violent action – or did I miss the train on when the new self-intelligent gun came into production – you know the one that loads itself, aims itself and discharges the bullet without anyone squeezing the trigger.
All this money for gun parts, but not one cent for building the wall.
AHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!
I Love it, I love it, I LOVE IT!
What did those political clowns expect?!
So stupid.
“It’s shameful that this individual exploited a program that has successfully taken thousands of guns off the streets to protect our communities from gun violence. We have partnered with local police throughout the state to recover more than 3,500 guns, and one individual’s greedy behavior won’t tarnish our work to promote public safety. We have adjusted our policies to ensure that no one can exploit this program again for personal gain”
If these DIMWITS truly believe this, they must have an IQ a couple of points over plant life!!!
I went to a few gun shows in the past and bought “parts” guns for cheap.
Later I took them to a gun buy back and afterwords went directly to the gun shop and put a substantial down payment on my Sig carry gun.
The reason is cynical PR; the politicians know it is meaningless (maybe they have convinced themselves it is worth it, but is not on their dime so who cares?). Of course, Repub politicians NEVER waste taxpayer dollars on worthless stunts do they? Let’s see, DeSantis asks Texas to send him some migrants that he can fly on taxpayer money to Massachusetts. Now, there is a legit idea.
Wool what about Trump or I mean DeSantis they did stuff.
God Libtards are annoyingly stupid
Any place run by Left-wing Socialist soon to be Communist Democrats turns into a s__t hole. The DNC is evil and voters continue to blindly follow them.
Keep your mouth shut, Ken, and just keep printing out the junk every time there’s another “buyback” program🤪
He could be charged with manufacturing without a license. He made them with the intent to sell, not for personal use. He had better be careful and protect his identity.
That’s the thing with these programs, those selling the guns can remain anonymous and intent to sell doesn’t typically include government buyback programs. I suspect that last part will change soon, though.
Curious, if the NYC is giving 500 per gun, why won’t you turn in all your BS or outdated guns? ie. Lorcin 25, Charter arms revolvers, and other cheapy guns and earn a profit.
Hey, where’s that insipid Blue Dog(he/she/it/they) troll? I thought he’d joyfully jump on this article.
Yes! To borrow that burger chain’s motto: “I’m loving it!”
Those chunks of plastic don’t even resemble a real firearm. The toy die-cast cowboy gun I had as a kid looked 1000% more realistic. Just shows what a buncha ignorant fools the gun-banners really are.
I’ll bet that Progressive-Socialist imbecile, Letitia James, will issue a statement like—
“We are proud to announce a major ‘buy-back’ today. We have removed 110 ‘assault weapons’ from our streets. Our crusade is working, despite what the MAGA semi-fascists might say.”
Kem should just move out of NY. What a terrible place to live with crime, idiots in charge, outrageous taxes and more.
Problem is, that when many people from those Progressive-Socialist shitholes move, it’s usually for economic reasons. They infect their new home state with the same insane Liberal ideas that ruined the state they moved from. They’re too stupid to make the connection and proceed to wreck their new state of residence.
Can you imagine all the insanity going on here with pronouns, CRT, BLM/Antifa, LBGT-Whatevers, and all the corporate “woke” BS, happening in China? No, they’d all be filling the ranks of a disposable slave-labor force.
I am in the process of moving from North Carolina back to central New York. I have enjoyed the freedoms of unrestricted gun buying in NC, but now I must move back to NY to take care of a loved one.
I never lived under the strict restrictions that NY now has since I moved away 25 years ago. When I came to NC it was for economic reasons, but since being here I have never met anyone from NY or any other “liberal” state who tried to push gun restrictions as you suggested.
By your logic anyone who lives in any liberal/blue state is against gun ownership and will only spread that agenda if they move to a red state. Please understand that there are many gun loving, law abiding citizens in blue states too and your words only create stereotypes. If what you said is truly correct, then if enough red state people move to liberal minded states, they can change the gun laws too.
I love this type of forum that allows free speech and I love our country too, but please don’t spread misinformation that causes decisiveness among law abiding, gun loving Americans. There are enough foreign trolls on the internet trying to divide Americans against each other to try and destroy our country and our fragile democracy.
Roman, I hope you enjoy your move. As for the attitudes of people relocating, you are incorrect. There are literally hundreds of thousands of people relocating out of CA, OR, and WA, moving into NV, AZ, and TX. The latter three Staes were solid red 15 years ago, and all three are now are blue, or moving that way. I have neighbors who have moved in from CA, and they hate guns, and want them confiscated. The vote Liberal in every election. They drive a Prius and a Tesla. We no longer speak to each other, which suits me fine. THEY ARE IDIOTS WHO MOVED TO MY RED STATE, AND WANT IT ALL TO BECOME CA!
Sadly I agree with you. I live in the foothills it’s rural and mostly Republican but we are seeing huge numbers of people relocating up here from Southern California or the Bay Area. I’m gonna get the heck outa this state soon and I would never ever vote for a Dem or Rhino.
Don’t move to CA. It’s worse than NY (except for the weather).
Who votes for these stuffed suite lawyers? I don’t think any of them have ever had a real job!
Oh, but they Have a real job. It’s subverting America with their Progressive-Socialist agenda to “fundamentally change” the country to their totalitarian, Marxist ideal. The nauseating part for me is that people willingly put those Left-wing scumbags in positions to do just that = national suicide.
Yeah, gun buybacks work. I’m sure almost all of those guns turned in were turned in by honest criminals. The politicians know what’s going on. They want to take guns from law abiding citizens and promote crime so they can advocate for stricter gun control laws.
Go Kem ! I’d watch by back though. The brown shirts will be coming for you now.
Kem should probably make sure he’s VERY careful about obeying all traffic laws, etc. One never knows how vengeful a DA, AG, or police commissioner from a blue state like NY might be about being publicly humiliated. BTW, nice job Kem!
Advice from Spudnut might be well placed and worthy of close attention.
He should use the gift cards to buy a bunch of guns.
The cards are probably for some crony “woke” companies, and you can bet your last dime they don’t sell guns or MAGA hats.
Not quite as good as Kem, but a friend reports that in Decatur IL ‘gun buyback’ 30 round AR magazines were fetching $35 each, and a local entrepreneur cashed in on 100 of them that he purchased just for the event at $8.99 each.
Not a bad day’s work
Exploitation is a TWO way street. Those that exploit, MUST have a gullible target TO exploit.
Are they saying they aren’t smart enough to prevent being exploited???
That’s the question they should be asking themselves.
But, then, they DO believe that co called ‘Gun Buyback’ programs will get the dedicated criminal to turn in their guns.
So as to their gullibility………….?
