LWRC IC-A5
This year at shot Show 2015 LWRC has brought three new guns to the table that are more than just innovative–they are also absolutely awesome.
First on the table is the IC-A5. Developed from the M6 line of rifles, the A5 is the epitome of the Piston driven AR-15. The rifle is extremely rugged, but still light. It comes in at 7 Lbs. The rifle has fully ambidextrous controls, which gives its user the ability to run the gun from left or right hand with great efficiency. The rifles overall weight is achieved by its spiral fluted barrel and a mono-forged upper receiver. The rifle is available in Patriot Brown, OD Green, and Flat Dark Earth Cerakote finishes and has a nickel boron treated bolt carrier group. The rifle is chambered in 5.56/.223 but has a brother In 6.8 SPC, your interested in better terminal ballistics.
C.S.A.S.S.
The second rifle on the table is such a recent development that little is actually known about the gun. It is the called the C.S.A.S.S. or Compact Semi-automatic Sniper System. Directly descending from the R.E.P.R., this rifle drops the FAL charging handle and takes AR-10 controls. The rifle is fully ambidextrous and shares most of the same features as the IC-A5. The rifle has a 24-position gas system and is fully adjustable to best suit your ammunition as well as your suppressor needs.
SMG-45
The last weapon to be released at SHOT is the SMG-45. The SMG is a pistol caliber carbine developed for police and military use. That said, we should see a civilian model by 2016. The SMG-45 is a delayed blowback .45acp carbine that utilizes H&K UMP magazines. It is fully ambidextrous, and the Charging handle can even be swapped to the right side. The SMG is a compact package . If you want to conceal the carbine, or just make storage easier, the gun has a folding stock that reduces length by nearly 10 inches.
Make sure to keep an eye out for these guns in the coming year.

The comments on these new weapons is very interesting and informative so I read all of them. The few from people opposed to guns (on a varying scale) hit all the “touchy/feely” talking points but they missed something, which hit home early Thursday morning. The point is, if you don’t have a weapon or tool (from a flashlight to a fire extinguisher, a ladder or a gun) when it is needed, you/others are in deep crap and you can’t do a damned thing about it.
My wife woke me up at 4:30 AM because she thought one of our cats was outside in the cold, crying. I checked the guys and they were in the house but I heard hysterical voices outside, which I checked on. At first the woman sounded like she was drunk and yelling at someone while she was outside. Then I heard, “I can’t get the door open” and there was smoke rising from a neighbor’s house about 7 units down the street. She was yelling for someone to call the Fire Department, which I immediately did (suspecting but not sure that someone else had already done so). As I was talking to the dispatcher, the first of 8 fire trucks/ambulances and several police cars arrived (the fire-house/police-substation was less than two blocks away).
I watched for a while, tried to go back to sleep, and then went outside to watch the smoke, when suddenly flames erupted from the roof, which were quickly extinguished. Then came the firemen/paramedics with a closed body bag on their stretcher, right by my house. I knew that either one or both of the elderly couple had been killed (It was the widower, perhaps from smoking in bed, drinking, etc. His wife had died last year but we didn’t know that because we usually don’t see them when it got cold so we didn’t know that she had passed away).
I was thinking that perhaps if I had known what was going on when we first heard the panicked voices in the street, I could have gotten a sledge hammer and gone down to break through the locked door and possibly helped get someone out. Apparently no one else had one or knew what was going on due to the confusion. Dennis was found near the front door, where he died and I suspect that my trying to get in would not have saved him, but I wish I had been able to try if I had known immediately what was going on.
The same goes for a situation in which a potential victim or bystander where they are threatened by a gun or knife. If you don’t have a weapon on you or handy, then everyone is out of luck. My daughter is a concealed carry person, as is my son, a combat veteran of Iraq (and a former police officer). She helped to bring serious security breaches at my granddaughter’s elementary school to both the school administration and the local sheriff’s department which has a school safety program. One immediate result was that a fence at the back of the school’s playground, which had been ripped down, was fixed, thus closing a dangerous situation AS A JOGGING/BIKE RIDING concrete trail ran right next to the schoolyard. Also, the school was located at the intersection of a major roadway which would have enabled a kidnapper a choice of several getaway routes long before any police car could have arrived.
I keep a geology pick in my car (a tool I used in paleontology work) not because I’m looking for fossils, per se, but because it is my emergency tool should I or my wife get stuck in our car if it is hit by another car and the door is jammed, or even if we slide off an ice-covered road and cannot get out of the doors. My pick can go through glass and metal like a jack-hammer so it is a lifesaver for us, or for someone else if we have to use it to free them from a car-crash or even to break down a door to get someone out of a house on fire.
A gun is also a “tool”. Used responsibly, it is a lifesaver. Misused, it is a tool of death.
My question is, would you, as a responsible person, want to have such a tool with/around you, or not. That is your personal choice but to criticize people for making that choice is both illogical and irresponsible. Who knows? One day a gun-carrying citizen may save your life because you weren’t carrying.
As the Boy Scouts motto says “Be Prepared”!
I suppose if a civilian version is made it will have only ten round magazines?
You must live in a wrong state
any chance LWRC will offer pdw in 9mm?
Awsome! one thing humans are good at, and that’s making a better and faster way of killing each other. I hope one day this company will be out of business and these weapons become collector items as a result of humans no longer killing each other on mass scale.. No disrespect you are serving a purpose in this age of war and killing I just hope that one day it ends. In the mean time keep up the good work .The faster we get ride of certain things the sooner we all can be at peace.
the world will never be at peace………just how it is.
** the A5 is the epitome of the Piston driven AR-15 **
did you shoot it? if not, how do you know it’s the epitome of anything?
What value to me as a right handed shooter who would plan to shoot and possibly sell your gun in the future (probably to another right handed shooter) to another right handed shooter, care about the ambidextrous crap you seem so proud of? Oh and BTW your twisted barrel??? Perfect balance?? Yeah right!!!
Believe it or not, you are not the only one who is interested in these firearms. Some people, like myself, are left-handed and have other southpaws in their family. Ambidextrous controls is among the first things I look for in any prospective new firearm. There are far too many that I cannot comfortably operate or shoot. Most bolt-actions are out, about half the pistols and auto-loading rifles I’ve handled I can’t reach the safety or magazine release, and bullpups are out of the question unless I want hot brass thrown in my face. Making a sweeping generalizing that all buyers are like yourself so having ambidextrous controls is “crap” is foolish.
I am a right hand shooter, and I like the Ambidextrous control’s on gun’s. for a couple of reason’s. 1st. my wife is a lefty, so getting something we can both shoot comfortably and either of us can grab and rock and roll with in an emergency situation is a real plus. 2nd. it is easier to sell if you decide to because you can sell it to anyone. 3rd especially with handgun’s if your strong arm is disabled in a fight you can still intuitively and easily work the control’s with your weak hand!!!
The SMG 45 looks like just what the Doctor ordered for close order battle… the .45ACP in JHP, sub-sonic, ammo should be an excellent choice for knock down power in the inner cities… where one doesn’t want super penetration, thru walls and cinder block… raising collateral damage issues. This weapon appears very compact, quick and easy to maneuver in tight places… while having the fire power to do the job.

You might want to rethink that… 5.56/.223 penetrates FAR less than most pistol rounds.
It’s been proven time and time again.
You’re telling me that a supersonic 5.56/.233 penetrates FAR less than a subsonic .45?
Look I don’t know much about penetration among calibers but I do know physics and I say that it’s physically impossible. Especially looking at the aerodynamics among the bullets makes that statement even more invalid. I wouldn’t believe it if I seen it.

As a HK UMP owner, I know exactly why LWRC developed this and designed it after the UMP. The UMP is possibly the most enjoyable gun to shoot I have ever owned…and I have owned a lot! Take the MP5 and put it on steroids and you get the UMP. 25 rounds per magazine of the infamous slower moving massive .45 ACP round along with the weapons small size, light weight and almost no felt recoil make it a dream home/personal defense gun. It is also SUPER reliable, I have not once had a failure with the UMP in well over 5k rounds fired, supressed or unsupressed. Seeing as how this is LWRC and the gun is modelled after the UMP I expect this SMG-45 will be just as good, and much easier to obtain than the HK UMP for average civilians with the cash.
Those do look real fun for a 45, ScottGunn.

Just wanted to share a few reasons why not an AR platform.
Call me old fashioned or over the hill because my 1911 A1 sits by my side for home defense.
I’m with you Joe.Thirty-three years ago, while in the Navy, the COLT 1911 was the weapon (sidearm) of choice.I have not been without one since.I use it as my CC,and also home defense.S/S colt combat commander.DEPENDABLE,ACCURATE,and SOLID KNOCK-DOWN.
Dick Bernstein from Salisbury MD owns LWRC. He makes his money on govt contracts. He was the past owner of a microwave filter company, then made small UAV’s out of Easton MD. He also owns a Pewter company. He is a Jewish guy and a wheeler dealer. He claims to be working on 100 million rifle contract for a middle east customer and was in conversation with Colt about being bought out by Colt (or the bankers that own colt). Dick has no firearms back ground but he has some really top Engineers working for him. He also allegedly subs some design out to an Engineer in NC and a few specialty Machine shops, his stuff is Top of the line.
Well, he needs to move the hell out of Maryland. It has become a very anti-Second Amendment and very Socialist state. Giving them tax money is just not something a responsible adult should be doing.
Hope springs eternal, they just elected a republican governor.
The first one in a long long time…if ever.
If you have to ask why, then you just don’t get it. Stick with your Mossberg 12ga and 30-30 Winchester and let the rest of us use our money how we want. Jeff Frischkorn sounds like a closet anti-gunner if I ever heard one. Yeah, I’m sure he’s an NRA member blah blah blah. He must hate all firearms that hold more than one round, otherwise his statement is quite ignorant, as anything from gasoline to guns can be used by psychos to murder innocent people. Ughhhhhh…… In all honesty I really do like these LWRC firearms, costly as they are, I NEED each and everyone. Haters keep your B.S. comments to yourselves. Like I said, closet anti-gunners and they don’t even know it yet.
WHY?
With all the .45 ACP upper kits for the AR platform available where is the need for this show and tell piece .
Shoot a HK UMP one time and you will have the answer to your question. There is no comparison.
or a KRISS Vector
UMP’s are insane Scott.
I would like to see a 10mm. UMP shoot.
+1 on the Kriss Vector, another fine example.
If you’ve ever shot a UMP, you’ll know why this gun might have a (much) better chance of making it to market. UMP’s suck. Extremely lightweight, to the point on full auto the recoil is extremely bouncy and will jar your point of aim to over your target after about 3 rounds. Feels chintzy as hell and the recoil is surprisingly high for a .45 acp. This would probably be much better, if it was METAL and had a little WEIGHT. Hopefully a good trigger too. Trigger on a UMP is TERRRRRRRIBLE.
Ah, are shooters so in need to spend their disposable income that they are willing to buy one of these things and then have the dollars to do what the flesh-eating plant did in the movie/play “Little Shop of Horrors,” that being “Feed Me?” The fact this company built and will sell these is proof the answer is “yes.” Just an invitation for another round of gun-banners crying out when a disturbed idiot uses one to mow down a bunch of innocent people.
Jeff, Obviously in your pitiful abject fear of ‘gun-banners’ you make the mistake of thinking that most of us really give a shit about what traitorous anti-2/A humans ‘cry-out’ about? And just for that, I think I’ll go out and blast a few hundred rounds out of one of my hungry-to-please lead spitters. So there!
Nonsense Jeff
Hey, crack off a few for me Mahatma!
“…when a disturbed idiot uses one to mow down a bunch of [UNARMED] innocent people.”
There you go, I corrected it for you. No need to thank me, correcting someone like you is thanks enough.
Oh, and just for future reference: There are two types of people in this world – people that rely upon government workers to protect them, and people that rely upon themselves to protect them. Interestingly, those that rely upon themselves have a much lower chance of being “mowed down”. I wonder why that might be…..?
Jeff you are a dumb ass. Just saying.
Jeff has obviously never owned or fired a subgun, and is apparently ignorant of the fact that only in one case has one been used in commission of a crime since the gangsters of the 1930’s were all locked up or killed in shootouts with law enforcement. In that one case, the automatic weapon was owned by a law enforcement officer who was in legal possession of it, yet the mythology continues to be promoted that somehow people willing to do what the law requires to own such a weapon will result in public mayhem. This scenario has proven to be erroneous, but people like Jeff think that it gives them some sort of debatable advantage when making their case for prohibition of ownership of weapons.
There is a legitimate collector market out there which will want to own and yes shoot these weapons, legally and safely. Considering the legal hurdles one has to clear in order to own such weapons there is no criminal that is in compliance with the law regarding the use and ownership of such weaponry. It is clear that Jeff is not a proponent of civilian ownership of select fire or fully automatic weapons. That is fine, however, most of the people interested in reading this article are not of the same mindset as Jeff.
To Jeff and those like him, the general public’s legal ownership and use of anything other than a muzzle loading musket should be against the law. He like his compatriots are free to choose not to purchase modern cartridge firing weapons, but the continued efforts of people like him are of concern. Many of us, the general public, do not want to be dependent on the government or law enforcement to defend the safety and security of our homes, and any weapon that will facilitate either that or sporting use such as match shooting events should not be reserved for government use only.
As much of an emotional appeal that Jeff wants to make of his criticism for barring public ownership of this and other weapons, it is nonsense to believe that such regulation will stop insane people from committing violent acts. These perpetrators are enabled by such limits, not restrained by them. When two men in Paris are able to kill a dozen or so law abiding citizens in a country where the only legal ownership of arms of any kind is restricted to police and military personnel, you have a situation where aggressors can attack others using guns against no immediate armed response. Those two men even killed a police officer. Even the police were limited in their ability to defend the general public, and yet people like Jeff want the US to adopt the same kind of posture as those which virtually provided a killing ground to those terrorists who were enabled their acts by way of restricted possession of firearms.
How many more events like those in France need to happen before people understand that laws have no effect on the lawless?
Re: SMG-45 ….will a dealer sample be available soon? Price? Thanks,
SG FFL/SOT
I love my USC (civilian ump), my only complaints are that it doesn’t have a folding stock and the magazine aren’t double stacked. Kudos to LWRC for making the folding stock, but why use the same terrible single stack magazines? The 20 rounder sticks out as far as the surefire 100… Totally useless for most applications. Why wouldn’t they make a double stack version?
They dont use USC magazines, it uses UMP magazines which are double stack 25 round mags.
Come guys include the price in your articles……
If you reread the article, you’ll notice that they said a civilian version won’t be available until 2016, which would be the reason they don’t have a price to include in the article.
Please send a price to my email
Can you legally buy a suppressor?
Matt:Depends on what state you live in,the answer is yes ,most states full auto machine guns and suppressors are legal.
Most states allow suppressors. Just pay the $200 tax to the feds, then wait until they say you can take it home…. which can take months….
Check your state and local laws before trying to get one.
In addition, some states, like NC, allow hunting with suppressors, so they have become quite popular.
LWRC is a great company and makes great guns BUT they are EXPENSIVE. If you want a fairly small, legal, reliable and amazingly accurate .45 carbine (American made) FOR CHEAP, I suggest the HI-POINT .45 Carbine. That’s right unbelievers, I said Hi-Point. For $300 -$450 you can pick up this great shooter which will hold it’s own all day against the new LWRC at a small fraction of the price. Try one… you will be amazed at the accuracy and will be very happy.
Accuracy isn’t the only measure a firearm needs to be measured by though. The Hi-Point carbine is fine for most uses. This is something else entirely. It is more durable, more ergonomic and uses a higher capacity magazine. For people who need to use firearms quickly and efficiently, those things matter a lot. That’s admittedly a very small section of the market (getting smaller every day it seems with intermediate cartridge tech improving), but the fact that for the next year it will only be available to MIL-LE, is a pretty good indicator of the needs this is meant to meet.
It is amazing how many company’s “new” and “innovative” products resemble HK clones.
I’ve seen one. Where are the others?
POF knock off of the MP5 is another example (http://www.guncity.com/9mm-hk-pof-mp5-a5-240437),
You are mistaken. That is Pakistani Ordnance, an authorized HK outfit.
How about 10mm?
I agree. Civilian-legal and in 10 mm. Or even .45 Super.
i want 1 ? How much?
sure wish I could afford one.they are very nice but what is the price.
I want it.
Look its a Heckler & Koch ump/
Looks better to me
