L.A. Enacts Magazine Ban, Stringent Storage Rules On City Level

The city of Los Angeles has taken “gun safety” into their hands, bypassing Washington to impose a new series of stringent gun control laws, reports the LA Times.

Los Angeles, with San Francisco and Sunnyvale, have seen fit to ban possession of any magazine capable of storing more than 10 rounds of ammunition, and the City of Angels has also mandated that all firearms in the home be locked up or disabled.

Lawmakers believe the new regulations, which are only in effect at the city level, will serve to better protect local residents, but most gun owners realize that’s just simply not the case.

The magazine ban is supposed to reduce the potential lethality during mass shootings, but as we all know, criminals have a tendency to ignore the law.

The gun storage rules are meant to reduce the likelihood of a child getting their hands on a firearm, but the lack of access will make every L.A. home an easy target for any criminal looking to burglarize a residence.

National Rifle Association spokeswoman Jennifer Baker agrees, claiming the new laws are nothing more than an attempt to disarm citizens.

“So-called safe storage laws have nothing to do with safety, they merely serve as a tool for gun control politicians to disarm law-abiding gun owners,” said Baker.

But according to Los Angeles Police Protective League Director Peter Repovich, the magazine ban may not apply to retired police officer with permits to carry concealed weapons, reasoning that these individuals can act as a “force multiplier” in an emergency situation.

“When something happens in a theater, who’s the guy that stands up to take the suspect out, preventing other lives from being lost?” said Repovich.

The new laws are set to effect within 30 days, and violators will face misdemeanor charges.
