While in Paris Sunday, Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in her hotel room. The gunmen apparently made off with property valued at over $10 million — rings worth an estimated $4.49 million and a jewelry box worth an estimated $5.6 million.
E! News reported on the incident, “Kim Kardashian West was held up at gunpoint inside her Paris hotel room this evening, by two armed masked men dressed as police officers,” a spokesperson for the reality star told the news network.
“She begged for them to let her live and [said] she has babies at home,” a source familiar with the robbery told E! News. “Then they wrapped her mouth in tape and put her in the bathtub. She thought for sure they were going to kill her.”
Guns in Paris? Who would’ve thought? Given the country’s tough stance on civilian gun ownership, one wonders how these lawbreakers were able to bring firearms into the gun-free zone that is La Ville-Lumière (The City of Lights).
Well, this was the exact point that National Rifle Association made on Twitter — to the chagrin of Everytown for Gun Safety, the pro-gun control organization funded by billionaire business magnate and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg.

If you ask me, arguing on twitter is like trying to swim laps in a kiddie pool. It’s a dumb idea. There’s just simply not enough room to get the job done. That’s why Twitter is a hotbed for pot shots, snide comments, caustic memes and misleading graphics instead of a place where critical inquiry, self-reflection and respectful discourse leads to real enlightenment. Without the space to really communicate and thoroughly debate an issue, what’s the point?
Anyways, I digress. As best as it could given the limits of the platform, the NRA iterated the truism that when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns. Put bluntly, Paris’ gun-free zone is a failure. It failed Kardashian and it failed more than 100 people last November during a well-planned terrorist attack. Until more Parisians realize they’re exposed by gun-free zones — not protected by them — nothing will change.
Oh, and as far as that chart that Everytown posted, I’d like to see the ratio if they removed all of the murder victims who had gang affiliation and/or drug-related problems. There’s no doubt that gang violence and drug wars in cities like Chicago and Detroit and Oakland greatly impact homicide figures.
Or it could be that they were actually police.

Looking at statistics of just gun murders across countries that allow and don’t allow guns is comparing apples to oranges. Instead compare total murder rates regardless of method.
Murders with guns in countries that allow guns should be expected to be higher for guns. That’s “common sense”.

The drug and gang problems are in Paris, also, so that isn’t a good arguement. In France and other countries, it is much harder to get guns, especially for the street thugs – in that, gun grabbers may be right. Maybe, if she had a firearm, this would have gone down differently, but I do not think so. If this isn’t an insurance scam, I am sure it was planned and done by professionals, that had access to firearms, and not street thugs.
