Smith & Wesson has done well selling their M&P 380 Shield EZ. Now they have answered the demand and introduced the easy to use M&P9 Shield EZ in 9mm. True Pearce, who owns the .380 version, spoke with Smith & Wesson at SHOT Show 2020.
The M&P9 Shield EZ is a member of the Shield 2.0 family and has all the latest updates to the line. The main thing to know about it, however, is that it is simply easy to use. All shooters can use this gun because it doesn’t require a gym membership to rack the slide. It can literally be racked with a light two-fingered pinch. The light spring also makes it shoot fast and flat.
The ease is due in part to the internal-hammer design; this is not a striker-fired gun. Using a hammer also makes for a better trigger. The trigger itself is one piece and breaks crisply. It’s single-action with a short reset.
Anyone who has loaded a magazine before will appreciate how easy it is to load the eight-round magazines. There are two tabs on the sides of the follower that you can use to pull the follower downward instead of only pushing on the next round with your thumb. Many .22 LR magazines have this feature, and this gun is reportedly as easy to load as a .22 magazine.
The frame is made of polymer with inset steel rails and they’ve cut out windows to see the steel. The barrel is 3.675″ long. And, the barrel and slide are stainless steel, finished with Smith & Wesson’s Armornite nitride. Front and rear sights are white dots, and the rear is adjustable for windage. There’s a grip safety and optional thumb safety. On thumb safety models, the lever is on both sides of the gun, and the magazine release may be swapped to either side.
This new M&P9 Shield EZ is shipping now. MSRP is $479.
