Over the next couple of months the Tennessee Wildlife Federation (TWF) is offering mentored turkey hunts for youngsters.
Via the TWF’s Hunting and Fishing Academy program, kids between the ages of 9-18 can start applying now online for one of seven hunts guided by a TWF Hunt Master.
Lucky winners will receive engaging, hands-on instruction over the course of the three-day hunt, covering everything from Turkey hunting 101 to how to orient a compass.
The hunt is not free. Accompanying parents or guardians will need to pony up $150 for their child and $150 for themselves. A total of $300 for the experience. Those not selected for the 2019 Spring hunt will be placed on a waiting list.

Hunt requirements:
- Hunters must use a shotgun with a full choke and have the corresponding turkey ammunition. Here is a Turkey Checklist (See below) provided by program parnter Academy Sports + Outdoors that can be useful to determine what you will need for a turkey hunt.
- Hunters must complete the Marksmanship Certification before attending the hunt.
- Hunters must have successfully completed the Tennessee Hunter Education course prior to the hunt and have a valid Tennessee hunting license.
