Ease of Use

Operating this light is a breeze. Utilizing a top push button for power, you simply press and hold to turn on the light, then click to toggle between three brightness settings. Additionally, a mode button on the side switches between the primary white light and an auxiliary white and red light.

Battery Performance

Powered by a single 4,000mAh 18650 high-capacity Li-ion battery, the light offers a maximum runtime of up to 82 hours at its lowest intensity. While I wished for a lower brightness level for extended runtime, 82 hours is still impressive. The included Nitecore battery is both removable and rechargeable, with the added convenience of a USB-C port for in-device charging.

Brightness of the HC65 UHE

With a maximum output of 2,000 lumens and 12,293 Candella, the HC65 UHE shines bright. Its 222-meter throw is remarkable for a headlamp, offering both task lighting and impressive throw capability. The main white light can be switched from as low as 100 to as high as 2,000 lumens. However, the auxiliary white light has 8 and 40 lumen options while the red auxiliary light offers 5 and 15 lumen options as well.

Head Straps

Crafted with breathable elastic, the head straps are easily adjustable and stay securely in place. A rubber strip along the inside of the elastic band prevents slippage during use.

Field Testing

Throughout my adventures, the HC65 UHE performed flawlessly. The three brightness modes proved handy, with the low auxiliary mode ideal for hands-on tasks and the high 2,000 lumen mode offering excellent visibility over long distances. Whether spelunking in caves or navigating dark environments, its reliable performance was reassuring.

I primarily used this headlamp out spelunking through some caves. In environments devoid of ambient light, dependable illumination is paramount. Although the HC65 UHE offers a tighter throw option, I found the wide beam pattern auxiliary mode particularly useful in enclosed spaces like caves or houses. Below are images showcasing the light at low, medium, and high settings on the primary white light setting, as well as low and high on the red auxiliary light setting.

HC65 UHE Conclusion

The Nitecore HC65 UHE impresses with its simplicity and performance. With brightness settings ranging from 8 to 2,000 lumens, it caters to various performance needs and runtime preferences. Priced at an MSRP of $89, it’s a solid option for illuminating your outdoor pursuits. For those interested, you can find it at FlashLightGo.com.
