Crossbows have come a long way in recent years and have become precision weapons. Ravin’s new R29X crossbow is such a modern device. True Pearce spoke with Ravin about their latest model.
As True said at the beginning of the video, this crossbow may be more accurate at 100 yards than most AK-47’s. The R29X shoots a 400grain arrow at 450 feet per second and makes 3″ groups at 100 yards. The arrows weigh in at 300 grains, and then you add a 100-grain broadhead or fieldpoint. Ravin now makes mechanical broadheads rated for 450fps that are guaranteed not to pre-deploy.
The R29X crossbow comes with a scope that has stadia marks on the reticle at various distances. All you do is find the distance you’re shooting and line up that circle on your target and shoot.
Big changes from the previous R29 crossbow are the increase to 450 fps over 430 fps, and the R29x now has a silent cocking mechanism, whereas the R29 and R26 have a ratcheting click sound as it is cocked. You don’t have to pull the string on this crossbow. You just click the carriage in place and crank the handle and it draws the bow. It comes with a safety switch that stops the trigger, as well.
This is the lightest and most compact crossbow. It weighs just 6.5 pounds and is 29″ long. Uncocked, the axle to axle length is 10″, and it narrows to just 6″ when cocked. Unlike some other crossbows, this one lacks a rail that the arrow and string slide along so the string life is very good and the arrows fly more accurately.
The trigger weighs in at just over 2 pounds with no creep. There is a 1913 rail in front of the grip for accessories and it has sling mounts. The whole thing is rubberized and printed with Predator Dusk camo.
Ravin prides themselves on the quality of this premium crossbow. It is made in the USA and the limbs are cut in their own plant. They have shot it 5,000 times consecutively without failures.
The Ravin R29X is available now. It ships with six arrows and the MSRP is $2,599. The 430 fps R29 is still available at $2,299, and the 400 fps R26 is $1,999. The R29X Sniper package includes a riser to help you shoot to 200 yards; $3,049

I have a 29 and shoot less that 1″ groups at 50 yards with mine all day. Excellent crossbow. In this case you do get what you pay for.
I shoot 1.25″ groups at 50 yards with mine. A fantastic crossbow. You sometimes get what you pay for.
I bought the r9 or r10 i believe it was 1,600.00 is a great crossbow i’m happy with it. I would never pay 3,000.00 for a crossbow but that’s what i said 1,600.00 i’m old now and don’t hunt as hard anymore think i’m safe..
