XHDi Flocked Wings That Park Black-Up On Command

It was bound to happen sooner or later, and technology always prevails. Lucky Duck’s newest spinner, the XHDi, has flocked wings that stop with the black flocking up ALWAYS. One might think the day of the spinner has passed, but I can assure you that in my use of this spinner during 2024, birds work it very well. I believe that as generations of new birds enter the migration, their aversion to spinners is just not there. I agree, pounding ducks up north over spinners might induce some negative reaction, but the end of last year and this year have shown spinners are a must in my decoy spread.

The XHDi really stands out in size, color, and texture. Placed on a 7’ six-piece stake, it can windmill with the wind or get locked down with the large orange bungee cord legs. The taller pole is a great addition.

XHDi Remote Control 2.0 – Black-Up Stop, Long Range

Offered with a 2.0 remote that I have discussed in the past only makes sense. The ability to turn it on and off and have the wings stop with the black flocking up is a wonderful fusion of technology and waterfowl hunting. The flocking alone provides that extra flash against the white backside, but does so in a subdued manner to accommodate both cloudy days and sunny days.

The 2.0 remote has so many great features. First, it can be turned on and off, so it never gets bumped on in your bag or jacket. It has a feature of multiple channels and intermittent timing, plus an all-stop button. The battery life is excellent, and I doubt one would ever exceed the distance it can control a decoy. Synchronization of all decoys to the 2.0 remote is very easy.

Lucky Duck XHDi Design – Bigger Body, Taller Stake, Waterproof

One more appointment I would add is that this is a new overall design. It is larger, with a more aggressive look and texture. The head is bright, and the body detail in both texture and color is excellent. Using their magnetic wing attachment setup is quick. This version also includes a longer stake with a foot peg for securing the stake into the ground. Make sure you also consider that this spinner is waterproof.

The head is forward and matches the body well when on the stake. It has the look of a duck approaching the water. The strong color shows up well in low light.

The combination of the 2.0 remote is without argument. Keep in mind that this remote works with all Lucky Duck decoys once they have a receiver installed. Receivers offer three channels.

I would guess everyone has hunted in strong winds and watched anxiously as the decoy leaned more and more. The new foot peg lets you set the decoy deep and easily. The top of the stake has a crossbar that can attach to the decoy legs, but also helps in pulling the stake out of the ground or mud.

This is the heartbeat of the decoy. You can see the specifically timed rotations, exchanging white for black, for miles. The black flocking does not reflect light, causing birds to flare. The underside of the wing also has a foam patch to keep it afloat if dropped in the water.

XHDi Internals – 7.4-Volt 4000 mAh and Waterproof Battery Box

The internals of the XHDi are similar to those of the HDi version, as both use a 7.4-volt, 4000mAh lithium-ion battery and house the battery in a waterproof box that slips into the body cavity. This newer version also includes a change in the electrical connection between the decoy and battery box. Much stronger and more durable. The battery box also houses the remote receiver. The XHDi and HDi both have an exterior charge port, an off/on switch, and a battery level indicator on the battery box revealed on the belly of the decoy.

Lithium-ion batteries are meant to be charged over and over. The 7.4-volt 4000 mAh is a workhorse, giving you hours of use. Advertised as having 16-20 hours on a charge, so allowing for multiple days of use between charges.

Being waterproof goes a long way in ensuring the longevity of the Luck Duck XHDi decoy. Decoys get wet, they get dropped in the water, work in the rain and snow, and water is a harsh environment for any electronics. You can slide the battery out of the pack and charge it inside or outside the battery housing.
Lucky Duck XHDi heavy-duty two-pole connector between battery box and decoy
Connectors take abuse. They corrode, break, get pulled on, and eventually fail. This two-pole connector is durable and allows one to remove the battery pack from the decoy if needed. It is also a secure connector that will not come apart accidentally.
Lucky Duck XHDi battery box with exterior charge port on-off button and battery level indicator
Lots of technology on top of the battery box. A water-tight charging port makes charging easy. The on/off button is big enough that even a gloved hand can get to it, and the battery level indicator is easy to view and use.

XHDi In The Field – Cutting Edge And Hunt-Proven

The Lucky Duck XHDi is cutting-edge and an excellent addition to their lineup. It is not a rehash of old technology, but rather a new approach to a long-standing problem waterfowl hunters have dealt with when using spinners. Stopping the spinner and having a white side up was just frustrating.
