GunsAmerica editor-in-chief David Higginbotham is a big guy. I think he’s 6 foot, 4 inches tall.
When it comes to shouldering and handling modern sporting rifles with shorter barrels and adjustable stocks, David had some questions about the optimal way to carry and shoot the platform.
As you’ll see in the video above, David had the opportunity to discuss the matter with Daniel Shaw, a retired U.S. Marine Infantryman and Combat Weapons Master Instructor.
GunsAmerica produced this video in conjunction with Funker Tactical and Thunderbird Tactical last winter. To see some of the other cool videos we made during our trip to Wichita, Kansas, click on the links below:

I was taught on the MP5 and told to “wrap” yourself around the gun, butt in the shoulder pocket area, shoulders square to the target, elbows tucked in, knees bent slightly, firearm pulled into your body firmly, and bent forward at the waist. This is good for either a static shooting position or for tactical “heel/toe” advancing or in “toe/heel” reverse. It was explained this method works with just about anything reasonable in size, like the M4 or a variety of tactical shotguns and served me well in many 3-gun matches over the years running a Steyr AUG and tactical Remington 870.
Always tough for us tall guys.
