A Florida homeowner’s son fatally shot an armed intruder earlier this week.
Tampa Bay Times identified the intruder as 46-year-old Tony Sei. Sei entered the Hillsborough County home around midnight in an armed intrusion.
Homeowner’s Son Shoots Intruder
The son woke up in the middle of the invasion and fired at the intruder.
Police received a 911 call of a home invasion around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.
They found Sei dead from multiple gunshot wounds, according to a press release from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigation
Police found Sei with a handgun.
The homeowner’s son has not been identified other than as an “adult.”
The HCSO is currently investigating the shooting. They have not stated whether or not the residents knew Sei.
Supportive Sheriff
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister supports the son’s actions.
“Imagine the fear of being awoken in the middle of the night to a stranger invading your home,” Chronister said.
“This is every homeowner’s greatest fear, a dangerous and brazen individual breaking in,” Chronister said, “showing a complete disregard for the safety and security of others. Our thoughts are with this family as they recover from the trauma of this event.”
Homeowner’s Son In The Clear
Sheriff Chronister is considering this a case of self-defense. Other sheriffs in similar cases have not been so generous. Each county has a different sheriff and a different prosecutor.
Some prosecutors choose to focus on certain crimes over others. A study from the University of Illinois dove into how crime and punishment change by location.
The researchers in the study “found dramatic variation in how different counties punish the same crime” according to Berkeley Haas Newsroom.

The homeowner’s son was congratulated for his act of self-defense. In other places, exercising those 2nd Amendment rights can land you in serious trouble.
It is important to prepare yourself by owning a firearm. It is not any less important to prepare yourself by knowing your local gun laws.

He was mentally ill and blind that makes for a real hero shooting a man hiding in a closet with a assault rifle 25 time that isn’t protecting yourself that’s murder. He was blind and mentally ill and in a state of mania hiding scared for his life thinking sometime was going to kill him. … They did and get a good job for their murder they committed. 25 times close range hiding in a closet that is the same as then having their back against the wall or floor which is it due state in the law books that’s murder not self defense he was trapped in a closet that didn’t have to kill him. The law was in the way already there killed him with the law on the property. It’s disgusting that people praise the homeowners son who was not asleep when this happened he was at the font of the families huge property closing the front gate. Not asleep and then he looked for the intruder and emptied a 25 round clip into Toneys face never once pausing to see if the threat was still present which that close with that calibre in going to say after the first he was no longer a threat but he continued to press the trigger 8 more time. I live close by I know both parties and toney was my boyfriend I heard the shots and he was murdered. If you shoot someone then go do a double tap that’s then murder because the e could of survived the first shot but then to do a double tap for good measure makes you a murder… That being said shooting a person with a gun that is capable of being fully auto is also not considered self defense. The capability of being fully auto not actually being fully auto. It only takes a little dias to become full auto so this goes against self defense and they decimated my sweet toney there couldn’t even identify him except through finger prints. His mother and sister are so emotionally destroyed over this careless act of the homeowners son. First rule of self defense is b don’t put yourself in a bad situation… Well when police are on the way and the guys hiding n wouldn’t going to find him be pretty much hunting a person down with the intent to kill them if that is what you do when you find them? Would that not be murder? Home invasion and murder are both capital offense. Now that being said there’s allot more to this all than what meets the eye I don’t think the son should go down for murder but excessive use of a fire arm resulting in death and the decoration of a body yes absolutely. This isn’t a great situation for anyone but there’s lessons to be learned and compassion that needs to be given in both parties behalf. Toney was the best man I knew best heart loving giving and was reformed from his younger days have been in trouble in over 8 years. His mental illness and doctor meeting with his meds caused him to go there that night and the outcome is that which he wanted . Unfortunately…. But 25 times with a ar close range in a closet hiding scared for his life unable to see the person who killed him thinking the police were coming to kill him.. That’s no way to go at all and that’s excessive even for self defense cuz my toney was gone after the first shot never store to see if he was still posing a threat just unloaded close range into my baby’s face …. That’s not self defense that’s a grown man getting revenge over his dad getting hurt by a altercation he has with toney. Small Town chatter gets more results that police investigations now a days. Just know the truth is not what the media is giving you
Good for the son! Article says some places he’d be in trouble. But where would he be in trouble for shooting an armed intruder late at night? Which states?
Nice job son! Sleep easy knowing you did what you had to do to protect yourself and your family. One less dirt-bag to have to worry about!
