Last summer, Springfield Armory released an awesome new pistol, the Range Officer Elite Operator, a 9mm 1911 with a Picatinny rail. The gun has been fantastic and the added weight of the rail really absorbs recoil. The only problem is finding a holster for a rail-equipped 1911 is like finding Waldo with pepper spray in your eyes. The model I tested was the 3 Slot Pancake, which is aptly suited for either straight-up or canted carry. It is a thumb-break style with a snap; quick to deploy but also secure enough for any conditions. The holster feels nice on the hip and against the body, and distributes the weight of the full-sized pistol perfectly.
The gun-holster fit was tight initially, but that is to be expected from a new leather holster. A little bit of wear and this thing is set for a lifetime of service. MSRP $99.95.

I looked for one of these for a 1911/rail, without success. I checked with Blackhawk, who said it wouldn’t be available until probably June. Just FYI if you’re looking for one. I’m still trying to find something decent in a concealment holster for a 1911 with a rail.
