Hollywood Takes Aim at Gun Owners… Again

“Miss Sloane” played by Jessica Chastain.

A quick Google search for “Hollywood anti-gun” brings up 5,480,000 hits. The same search with “pro” in place of “anti” reveals 85 percent fewer pages and articles about pro-gun Hollywood figures (806,000).

It’s a crude metric, but it communicates an important truth: the vast majority of the people in Hollywood don’t like guns.

And they’re at it again.

Director John Madden released a movie last week called Miss Sloane, which depicts an “insomniac, workaholic, grade-A ass-kicker” who takes on the big, bad gun lobby all by herself.

Elizabeth Sloane is working as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C., when a thinly veiled NRA-type organization approaches her boss to ask for help drumming up support for the Second Amendment. But because guns are bad and scary (or something), she decides to join a competing firm and work to pass a piece of anti-gun legislation.

Cinematically speaking, the critics seem to enjoy the movie (7.5/10 on IMDB, 75 percent on Rotten Tomatoes), but the public?  Well, too early to tell.  According to Box Office Mojo, the film has only generated $57,000 thus far in its limited release.  Something tells me that while it may have legs in big cities, this film will tank in middle America where gun ownership is properly celebrated.

That said, from a topical perspective, “Miss Sloane” marks the beginning of what could be an extensive anti-gun campaign from Hollywood.

With Donald Trump in the White House and Republicans controlling both houses of Congress, the anti-gun lobby has begun to look elsewhere to push its agenda. They’re losing in many state legislatures (though not all), so they’ve started pushing for ballot initiatives and Hollywood propaganda.

Madden’s movie is the latest example, but it’s certainly not the only one. Celebrities have never been shy about using their platform to speak out against guns. Matt Damon famously said to The Sydney Morning Herald that “you guys [banned guns] here in one fell swoop and I wish that could happen in my country, but it’s such a personal issue for people that we cannot talk about it sensibly.”

He went on to suggest that maybe Americans need to “evolve” further before “we can have that conversation.”

More recently, Matt Cooper’s romantic comedy “Is that a Gun in Your Pocket?” depicts a group of women who refuse to have sex with their boyfriends/husbands until the men give up their guns.

Another proposed movie from progressive Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein would “take on” the NRA and make them “wish they weren’t alive.”

“I shouldn’t say this, but I’ll tell it to you, Howard. I’m going to make a movie with Meryl Streep, and we’re going to take this head-on. And they’re going to wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them,” Weinstein said on the Howard Stern show.

As others have noted, anti-gun rhetoric from Hollywood represents the height of hypocrisy. The same celebrities and producers who speak out against guns portray guns favorably in their movies and make millions of dollars in the process.

Maybe instead of blasting a group of people they obviously know nothing about, Hollywood types should try to understand how guns can be used to save lives in the real world as well as on the big screen.

Only two words needed to describe the Hollywood elitist…Hypocritical Scumbags.

  • J.C. December 5, 2016, 12:59 pm

    SPOILER ALERT!!

For those of you who haven’t seen the movie yet, there is a pivotal scene in the flick wherein Miss Sloane’s character’s LIFE is saved from an assasination attempt by, wait for it… AN ARMED & LICENSED CCW HOLDER! True story. Look it up.

Might help to give things a FULL view (or chance) in the future before vehemently denouncing it. Just a thought.

Hollywood, the biggest purveyor of gun violence in almost every product they pawn on the public. What hypocrisy!! They want to make the world safer by making every movie and game about killing people, zombies and aliens. How’s that working out?
Curious that every liberal mecca is a violent city.

  • CharlieKing1 December 2, 2016, 8:50 pm

He (Damon) went on to suggest that maybe Americans need to “evolve” further before “we can have that conversation.”

Why do these smug Hollywood elites always believe they have the moral high ground? I’ve evolved enough Mr. Damon; I’d love to have ‘that’ conversation with you or others like you, but your kind refuse to let the facts get in the way of your arguments. So, I guess we’ll never have that conversation…

  • survivor50 December 2, 2016, 3:04 pm

Hey Hollweird…don’t ever make another movie with a gun of any sort in it again!!! Problem solved…
They will surely get “HUGE” crowds to see Pink Unicorn movies…right?

  • Chemiker December 2, 2016, 2:21 pm

The hypocrisy of making money off anti-gun films is compounded by the Hollywood types living in gated communities and having armed bodyguards. Even Feinstein had a concealed carry permit. Now she has bodyguards. Don’t you love liberals?

  • BIGKIELBASSA December 2, 2016, 1:50 pm

Ah ha ha ha ha . Hollywood. Run by Fruitcakes employing over paid brain dead liberals posing as actors who never worked a day in hard labor in their lives and probably have to hire someone to change their diapers for the cry babies . Ah ha ha ha ..just to,piss you odd Im going out today and buy me yet another FAL or some other choice NFA weapon say maybe an M-2 .30 Carbine ?? Why ? Because I can . Just to piss you off . I am so sick of Hollywood and the self serving hypocrites who call themselves “entertainers”.
Ever notice how the ones who make millions on shootem up action adventure movies are the first to condemn our Constitutional rights. They are not “part of the solution” so by process of elimination only leaves them to be “part of the problem”!!
ES and D all you Hollyweinies !!!

  • Bob December 2, 2016, 11:51 am

Most of these butt-holes have personal protection, bodyguards, and they all live in their little enclave of the very privileged. Typical left wing rhetoric, we know better because we are rich and famous for being parrots who can recite a script on cue.

  • bill December 2, 2016, 10:58 am

If Hollywood types are so anti-second amendment and against guns, then why do they promote themselves as “Macho, Gun Toting, Good Guy” characters in the movies. That’s kinda like “Do as I say and not as I do”.

It’s like matt damon and ben afflicted, two hollywood trained monkies that performed as directed on stage but when not on stage they can’t form a single coherent sentence without mumbling something stupid……

  • Patriot December 2, 2016, 10:16 am

I have no intention whatsoever to watch a Hollywood anti gun piece of crap. Let the Hollywood hypocrites watch it. There is plenty of hypocritical DEMOCRAT crap out there that would love to see an anti gun movie. Speaking of Democrat hypocrites, the democrat house has reelected screwed up Pelosi as minority speaker. This is absolute proof that Democrats do not support the Constitution and the right of Americans to self defense as stated in the Second Amendment for honest Americans. It is obvious that democrat Supreme Court appointments would have been a totally unAmerican effort to destroy Second Amendment rights for honest Americans. This is typical of Clinton, Obama, PELOSI, many Hollywood hypocrites and DEMOCRATS in general.

We are all going to move if trump wins but when he does win none of them are packing there bags oooh they were just foolin about. for gods sake cbs has got magyver back on ,i thought that garbage series was long dead!

  • KurtW December 2, 2016, 9:32 am

Haven’t watched a matt damon film in years….. about the time that his anti-2A and AGW views started to surface.
Too bad – I thought the original Bourne was fun.

Enjoyed him in Team America,, though.

  • VA mtn Man December 2, 2016, 9:00 am

I think this movie’s release was timed with the forgone conclusion that Hillary Clinton would be the president elect. Hollywood is a leftist bubble that doesn’t check anyone’s pulse but their own. Anticipating that the anti gun baton would be seamlessly passed form Obama to Clinton, they probably intended to be cheerleaders for her well documented rabid hatred of the 2A. The same constituency that ignored Clinton will ignore this feculent piece of leftist Hollywood group think.

    • JERRY December 2, 2016, 10:09 am

Big mistake! Big flop coming to the big screen. ha ha ha

  • Hugo December 2, 2016, 8:50 am

Sleazy hypocritical a-holes. Most of their movies are aweful anyway. Just wait until they are on TV and hit then where it hurts.

  • lilbear68 December 2, 2016, 8:31 am

ahhh yes another Hollywood entertainment monkey, sing for me monkey, sing and dance for my amusement monkey. then just shut your stupid mouth while I turn you off.

  • Nav Vet December 2, 2016, 8:26 am

When Hollywood starts giving up using Firearms in their movies and making money off of graphically potrayed violence, I may begin to take them seriously. To rail against guns, and yet glorify gun violence in their product is the height of hypocrisy. But then, you have to have morals to do that, or even recognize your hypocrisy.

  • Rick December 2, 2016, 7:44 am

    BOYCOTT……………………………….

  • Walt Wigner December 2, 2016, 7:13 am

Those Hollywood types are forgetting that they are here to entertain us, without our support and amusement they don’t have a job. so the ones that are anti-gun, just don’t watch their movies. They don’t make money they disappear. We don’t need them they need us!

    • Smith Wesson December 2, 2016, 9:46 am

      Amen

  • Tim December 2, 2016, 6:40 am

Hasn’t anybody noticed what nationality or religion these “Hollywood” producer are that are anti-2nd Amendment?
They are a parasite in USA.

    • LVE4GOD December 2, 2016, 8:46 am

Please keep your anti-Semitic nonsense to yourself. Hollywood does NOT consist solely of Jews, any more than the banking industry does. Jews have been blamed for just about everything since time immemorial, and look how it turned out in Hitler’s Germany. There’s plenty of evil and hypocrisy among atheists agnostics, Muslims and yes even Christians…not just in Hollywood, but the whole world over. It’s called SIN, pick up a Bible and learn about it.

  • JGinNJ December 2, 2016, 6:27 am

What is really bad in movies is that guns are often portrayed being used in unsafe, illegal or unrealistic ways and there are no consequences, as there would be in real life.

  • Dan December 2, 2016, 5:37 am

Rather, buy Ammo at the cost of a stupid movie! I’d be much better off. Throw in the price popcorn there’s another 100 rounds.

  • DRAINO December 1, 2016, 8:34 am

Hmm….last thing I heard is that Howard Stern is pro-gun. Wonder what his response to this idiot was? My list of actors/producers/directors’ movies that I will go see has diminished dramatically over the last year or 2. I simply won’t go see them. Hit them where it hurts……take away their platform…and income. If we don’t watch….they will shut up eventually. Americanism!!…..NOT Globalism!!!!

  • Will Drider November 29, 2016, 8:45 pm

Reality: Crap themed movies and TV don’t bring in big bucks won’t be repeated. Political agenda documentaries, movies and such that fail at the box office will only get some yearly award from the like minded idiots to foster the issue as worthy to some degree. They will have already taken their bow and 15 seconds of fame on the talk shows hawking their flop. Of course the failure will be blamed on America’s gun culture not their choice of subversive material.

  • American November 29, 2016, 6:41 pm

Find out who is anti gun then BOYCOTT their movies !

  • Christian November 29, 2016, 1:14 pm

„Elizabeth Sloane is working as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C., when a thinly veiled NRA-type organization approaches her boss to ask for help drumming up support for the Second Amendment. But because guns are bad and scary (or something), she decides to join a competing firm and work to pass a piece of anti-gun legislation.”

Whoever wrote this script, must have never been in a situation where he/she has been threatened. I tell you, as soon as the writer of this script will be threatened by a bad guy in his/her life, he/she will change the sides and will be ashamed of having ever written such a script for the rest of his/her life.

It’s funny that some of Hollywood’s well-known movie series like Star Wars have guns (or swords) all over the place and the stories contain good guys that use their arms to secure peace, yet Hollywood tries to tell us that guns are all evil and should all be banned immediately. I hated hypocrites always and here I have another prime example why I hate them.

The only way to show Hollywood that we don’t like this behavior? Well, don’t watch their movies, although I am sure unfortunately too many people still will. Hit them right in the pocket. The world can live without this Hollywood crap. I mean, most of their movies today are just bad remakes of awesome movies that destroy everything you loved (Star Wars, Star Trek) because the industry has no new ideas anymore, as everything already has been made earlier, you can see the same problems in many other entertainment industries as well, for example the gaming industry.

I don’t believe that this movie will make it big anyway, because from what I saw so far political-type movies were never the big blockbusters. Most people want action; therefore, you need guns in the movie. Hollywood doesn’t like it but they need to make the big money, so they place guns into their movies. Anyway, the only power you got is to not spend your money in the cinema for this movie and also never buy the DVD version of it. That is the only way how the people can show these nutjobs from Hollywood that they don’t like this hypocrisy. Just boycott that Hollywood stuff. There are plenty of good foreign movies out there with no anti-gun propaganda from Hollywood.

By the way, it’s funny that Hollywood makes this propaganda against guns always because they are so ugly and so bad and all this stuff (at least in the minds of the Hollywood producers), yet just a very few miles north of Hollywood there is the San Fernando Valley, better known for many people as the “Porn Valley”. Now, guess what kind of ugly stuff the same companies produce there every day but surprisingly no one in Hollywood is making movie propaganda against that, although it happens right in front of their doors! Hypocrisy at its best!
