While people have become more familiar with carbon fiber gun barrels, Helix 6 Precision is moving the needle. They are not only offering an amazing product with some incredible benefits but also working on some pretty cool collaborations.
The secret sauce to Helix 6 is their proprietary process used in the creation of their barrels. They are able to achieve increased accuracy as well as a higher thermal capacity due to the way they layer their fibers.
Additionally, they have managed to change the ratio of fiber to resin, from a common 50/50 ratio to 70 percent fiber and 30 percent resin. With carbon being a conductor and resin an insulator, this lets the barrels shed heat faster.
What’s also cool their barrels use the carbon component as a structural piece, not just an aesthetic wrap. This allows the barrels to be cut to any length, whereas the norm around the industry is barrels are made to a specific length and cannot be cut. Threaded options are also available.
Recently Helix 6 Precision collaborated with VuDoo Gun Works to introduce the Sinister Carbon rifle (available Q2). All of those features from the VuDoo Sinister Rifle with a significant upgrade in the barrel department.
While a price tag north of $3,000 it’s probably not a plinking rifle, but it does have its role as more and more people get into the competitive side of shooting rimfire. All of the challenges of shooting PRS, but far more accessible due to the shorter distances with the smaller cartridge.
And if you are a hunter and have a SIG Cross rifle, you’ll probably appreciate their new drop-in barrel. Helix 6 released a drop in carbon fiber barrel that not only gives amazing accuracy over the factory barrel but shaves 1/2 a pound off of the gun. That takes an already pretty light and handy rifle and makes it that much easier to carry into the mountains on those epic hunts.
