H&K Firearms: https://www.hk-usa.com/mr762a1
The MR762A1 from H&K is a 7.62×51 (.308 Winchester) descendent of the HK416/417 series, a semi-automatic rifle for civilian users. This system uses a solid “pusher” rod instead of the gas tube on a standard AR, and this makes the system very clean, because gas never gets into the receiver. It takes HK417 mags, and as you can see from the video, there are a number of features built into this rifle that make it more sure and stable than a standard “legacy rifle” AR-platform configuration. |
HOW IS THE RECOIL ON THE MR762A1 , I HAVE HAD BOTH MY SHOULDERS REBUILT , IT KILLS ME TO SHOT MY M1A SOCOM 16 , PLEASE, TELL IT DOES NOT KICK LIKE A MULE , THANK YOU
So, can we use most AR-15 Accessories on these rifles? What about magazines and magazine capacity? If I get the .308 version, can I get a 30 rounds for it that doesn’t cost me $100 a clip?
They probably take p mags
Hey there. I have a SCAR 17 which is an excellent weapon, other than how long it took me to get mags. Has anyone seen a direct comparison between the two. It would be hard for me to believe the HK could be better, and certainly not 1k better.
While I understand the sticker shock and the concept of JLA’s comment, I can’t believe someone mentioned H&K and Kel-Tec in the same breath.
the interviewer did just fine
That’s a nice rifle, but for the money I’d take a LWRC REPR (or Les Baer’s new .308 SWAT if precision was the of the game) over the HK any day of the week…or a DSA SW58 FAL…or a Keltec RFB…
For $4000, I’ll pick up the SCAR Mk. 17, 200 rounds of good M118, and with the cash left over, pick up a decent AR-15 and 480 rounds of M885 ammo!
I read some of the comments about the interviewer George, I disagree, he let the HK rep do most of the talking, he did fine. He may have been excited about HK finally bringing these rifles to civilians, that’s all. Try doing interviews yourself, then go back and watch them, then you will see all the mistakes you make, and then you will understand it’s not quite as easy as it looks. Shot Show is huge, and trying to cover everything for your viewers can be a daunting task. I for one appreciate all these videos of new products.
Very nice rifle…however, for those of us who have that kind of money laying around, why not just add an extra 5 dollars and make it an even 4 grand? I don’t care what people say, you are still paying for a name. This is quality out there at a lower price.
”The AR platform has always been at a disadvantage ( reliability) over AK platforms for this reason of normally having a gas tube basis of operation. So…the question is… who else does this on an AR platform without a $4k price tag?
Try Black Rifle Arms. http://blackriflearms.com/
They are currently selling AR-15 piston uppers in 7.62×39 starting at $663 and they have a .308 (7.62×54) piston upper coming out this summer. I have the 7.62×39 upper on my AR-15 and I run surplus (read:dirty) ammo thru it ALL DAY LONG. When I clean my rifle the barrel is nasty but the receiver and carrier show hardly any residue. Check ’em out!
$4 K is too beaucoupe, ok for those with Uncle Sugar’s OP funds. Vaya con dios but I’ll keep my Springfield M1A National Match.
Well put JO ! Ha, sounds like you’ve seen Full Metal Jacket a few times…Anyways, like the M1A1 and my Armalite AR-10
That is a sweet rifle. I could see it selling for $800 the way it is. Once you put HK on it most people are priced right out of the market with the $2,200 mark-up.
I probably missed it but what did he say about accuracy, I got the part about parts of the rifle that he thought
improved things but what are some bench rest results?
If a weapon does not shoot to my desires I don’t care about the manufactures rep.,
I won’t keep it.
I watched the video before I read the surprisingly negative comments regarding the interviewer. I found absolutely nothing wrong with his method of moving the spokesman along to make the video less than three minutes long. George happens to have a low tolerance for B.S. as many fellow firefighters or cops have. The spokesman started talking about takedown pins and buttstock detents instead of the beginning with the operating system, barrel, etc.
The rifle looks great but so does the very similar gas piston-operated 7.62×51 Sig 716 for $1500. You could buy some really nice accessories and ammo for the $2500 savings.
Agree
Well since this president has caused my job along with thousands of others all I can afford is a sling shot at least rocks are free you can pick them up every where LOL
I saw this weapon system demo. Buried in sand, fully submerged, no problems. Highly impressive, well worth the $$$, IMO
Well, let’s see: Why doesn’t it have a folding stock? And it’s heavier than my DI DPMS LR-260, and not offered in as good of a chambering, but still, I might could accept those huge tradeoffs to get the ambi, always-available safety, as long as it’s quite a bit cheaper than my DPMS – it IS quite a bit cheaper, right?
At $3,999.00, Naw I’ll take a SCAR17S from FN At around $2,500.00
What does it weigh? I don’t need another 12 or 14 pound HK, I need a 7 pound HK.
Your 5 .56 mm HK is about 12# with 20 rounds of ammo. I woukd expect the 7.62 mm vetsion to be 18 to 20# with 20 rounds. I had a super match M1A that was 22# with scope,mount,20 rounds and magazine in a composite stock. The glass bedded walnut stock was heavier yet. It was hell of a deer rifle from a tree stand but….
Ron
Interviewer did fine in this one…but he doensn’t need to say “m-kay” every point the H&K rep makes. Distracting. Other than this, get off his back folks. Thanks for the video. Nice rifle from H&K but for that $$, I’ll be building an AR10.
I have been waiting for this since I heard of rumors the gun was being developed ( seems like forever ). I’ve owned a few H&K guns and think they are the porsches of the gun world. I think 4k is really steep and think they would sell more if they brought the cost down. I just moved to Texas from California and the MR556 (2,700.00) is actually on the shelves here.
jesus give the guy a break. if you watch his other videos he is actually very knowledgeable and adds some good comments most of the time. He used to host some tv show i believe and he has the expertise to add something to the conversation. He clearly isn’t used to playing the role of interviewer/buffer but it’s not so bad that “I won’t visit your site again with him interviewing.” Seriously, some people just love to criticize from a distance but could never do it themselves.
As for this rifle, I would love to have one, but I’d rather send my kid to college, lol. HK seems a little to proud of their products, albeit very nice products.
Why not go out and buy a POF. Dam good gun and less money
The interviewer did a good job. He just said Uh huh a lot. He never interrupted or talked over the representative, just added a few pertinent comments about reliability. He was a fine interviewer, I don’t see what bothered people so much. Nice work guys. And a beautiful rifle. Now I have to decide whether to save for three or four years and get this HK or the FN SCAR, two excellent 308 battle rifles… tough choice. I guess it comes down to comfort with the AR system, or developing comfort with a new “wave of the future” system.
(that was a nice babbling stream of consciousness rant above W E Stewart, no back to our regular programing )
4 grand for semi custom AR ‘carbine’ !!! ( wrong answer game show buzzer> ” ARGGGGGGG ” > SURVEY SAYS> Go buy 2 Rock River Operators in 308 for that price
Geez people- give the guy a break- not that bad. Nice weapon though.
This looks really nice. It seems to have all the features that I got in my Patriot Ordinance three years ago for about $1,500.00 less. Still, when I spend the money on H&K I expect the best.
I’ve worked with SpecOps guys (and gals) for many years and bet the interviewer is or was one. They all have this “get to the point” way of speaking to you that comes across very abrasive and rude. Unfortunately that is trained into them. Get intel, ask the right questions, proceed with MO
Come to think of it, I can’t recall ever meeting one that isn’t divorced. Anyways…sweet gun, ridiculous price.
If your life, or that of the guys next to you, is at risk you won’t care how much is cost. I understand it’s a civilian version and thus the price may seem high. That said if you were ever put in a position where your life depended on it, all you would care about is “does it work the first time and every time after that”.
God Bless All,
ChiefBDT
A valium, please. George, if that’s the blabby host’s name, is under tension. NIce gun.
Yep……George was like a race horse…he wanted into the race on this one….exuberance personified….George would make a bad bureaucrat….he has too much energy…..we all have to eat….but the cost of some of these ego machines is out of kilter with many a budget…..perhaps an American made semi-auto with down to earth practicality….ummm….like an M-3…Greasegun… I used to carry in Korea….I kept one in my Jeep…yeah.. and that old 53 CJ3B…with the Hurricane engine was relible…had a mount for old A-6 cal Browing machine gun..or one could put a Ma Deuce on her….with that addition ones sense of well being increased manifold…specially with an operator that could make that ma Deuce talk….maybe a new grease gun…in 357 mag/38 cal….same fire control system…and with the new engeering and machining abilty on CNC equipment….and we would could have one in caliber similar to a savage 300…able to reach out….gallop off into the distance and say hello…here we are sitting around with a spook on the loose….is this the USA of General Longstreet…and George Patton…are we being pummeled and basted like a hog on a spit…we have bureaucrats making rules and regs…making stupid descisions about our lives….telling US how we are to live…we have the zoning Nazis…the anti-gun Nazis….the anti-God Nazis…..anti-white Nazis!….hell people… we can’t even builid a new car…toaster…even a shitter has to have the mark of the bureaucrats good shitter award before we can buy one…..sign of the times…I say let’s get it on….do you recall just as Waco was being popularized by irate citizens….up popped the Militia movement…it bloosomed so quickly it scared the federal govt….janet reno and bill clinton retrenched in washington d c…meetings were held to detrmine the extant of the Militia movement and the found out it was massive…people weren’t hiding they were advertizing “come on…join us” we need you to fight for freedom….the FBI and the ATF murdered 87 women and children…plus a few old men…blacks in this country were never told by the news media….but if they had known there were twenty nine of their brothers and sisters including children that died in the horror of the fire that consumed all those poor people….just so bill clinton could make a statement…and the staement he was trying to make was….”I’m here and I am in charge and don’t you forget it” but it didn’t work did it?….the Militia stopped them from further stupidity….think about it people….now the obama wants a “civilian security force” as powerful as the army and marine corps….what’s next on the agenda of these control freaks?
I don’t really see how you can ask that question as tyranny has no boundaries nor limitations. As for the weapon? I’ve got my opinions, others have theirs. If it’s worth it to you, it’s worth it. I love my PWS – that’s me. But, as the man said, “cheers.”
Whoa…W.E!!! I thought we were talking about the gun, not about your ditto head thoughts.
Sometimes it is fun to just let the whiners whine. The way we see it, there are 4 billion people in the world who nobody cares what they say or are thinking, but everyone cares about George, and we are honored that people care. I am sure he is flattered that so many people took the time to notice.
Holy cow…what a load of senseless, ignorant, madman, drivel. Don’t go losing your head and start shooting up a government agency with your Grease gun, m-kay?
Sheese WE. Any ideas on how to use paragraphs and spacing?
I see this as its most compelling feature—> ” This system uses a solid “pusher” rod instead of the gas tube on a standard AR, and this makes the system very clean, because gas never gets into the receiver….”
The AR platform has always been at a disadvantage ( reliability) over AK platforms for this reason of normally having a gas tube basis of operation. So…the question is… who else does this on an AR platform without a $4k price tag?
With all due respect to HK, and I am sure this is a sweet 308, but the price on their weapons makes my Sig 716 and 516’s the bargains of the century!!!
The price on that gun is way out of line. There is no way i would pay that much for a rifle like that one. It is nice, But! I shot comps all the time, High Power, Small Bore, 3Gun and F class. I am willing to pay prices like that for a annie .22 rf , and others rifles as well, but not That one. The only stuff new is the butt stock lock and a mod on the trigger. Guy go get a RR or BM great guns and at a real price. I love my HK’s but that is going just plane dumb.
This is the first time I am watching presentations from a gunshow, and I am amazed on what the new weaponry are, like this amazing rifle here. I much agree with the readers of this blog regarding the rushed nature of this triple A personality who is doing the interview. I do not question Georges qualities and knowledge but he makes the worst reporter I’ve ever heard so far (and I am 55). Just ask him to swich the mike off and/or mute himself in your videos. I will not visit this site again with him interviewing.
I thought the interviewer was fine. He hardly said anything at all and let the H&K rep explain the weapon. To the gun. A semi-auto civilian version of the M416 in .308, what’s not to love; but $4000? Ouch is right!!! $1995 and they’d be on the money. I think I would sell one of my kids. Let me think about that…….
well HK is a reputable and outstanding gun maker and i like the rifle, but at $4000 msrp holy cow, frankly i see no advantage gained over my Armalite AR10 at that price.
Similar to the Hogan .308. Impecable pedigree but $4000.00 ????? A LaRue Custom isn’t that much.
I’d really like to get my hands on one of these. How can you resist? It looks like a winner for the AR system.
Please forgive me but does anyone know the retail price and when it will be available?
It looks like MSRP is $3,995. Ouch.
No kidding, the interviewer was annoying, but the rifle is fascinating as well as pricey. Still, HK quality, especially in the AR format is exceptional. The AR soldiers on, in all its variations. Love that gun.
Nice looking gun, but that interviewer was annoying as hell…kept interrupting and seem to hurry the H&K rep along without caring what he was sharing.
I agree, I’ve been watching quite a few of the reviews from the SHOT show, and the interviewer needs to back off on the morning coffee…he rushes the demo every time.
Amen. Ease up dude.
This is a reply to everyone about the interviewer. We let the comments in because you at least mentioned the gun, but as usually the first comments in are always critical about something. We put George in a very difficult position because he is used to being the one with all of the knowledge, and he is one of the best at explaining advanced stuff to people with not much background. This “interviewer” kind of thing is new for him and he did his best, and we think he did a great job. Next year we will let George do the overviews of the new products instead of the company spokespeople, so he can bring in some of the significance, not just the product features. Overall the videos came out better than last year, and next year we will improve them even more. We have googled around, and there is nobody with even 1/10th of the SHOT Show coverage as GunsAmerica, and George helped make it happen, so lighten up. We do our best and learn lessons for next time.
George is a great teacher, very much at ease with the whole subject of guns of all types. His roll as interviewer was good…not great but not obnoxious or annoying, as others have commented. Let George alone, he’s one of the good guys.
That is a sweet Rifle….only drawback…Price $$$$$$$$$
What is the wholesale and retail prices?
Sorry for asking I hadn’t read far enough yet?
Dang guys and gals, the interviewer wasn’t that bad.
$3,995 retail.
