Heckler & Koch is Rolling Out New HK416s in .22 Long Rifle – SHOT Show 2019

in Max Slowik, SHOT Show 2019

Heckler & Koch just announced a series of budget-friendly HK416 rifles and pistols, now chambered for .22 Long Rifle, at appealingly low price points. They might not be the military thoroughbreds like the centerfire guns, but they’re fun and useful training tools and plinkers.

Real-world pricing for these rifles and pistols will be under $500 when they become available. To keep prices low Heckler & Koch turned to Umarex to help them build these rimfire guns. But unlike a lot of Umarex-licensed products, these are fully backed by Heckler & Koch USA for quality control and warranty work.

Heckler & Koch is leading with two models, a full-size rifle with a carbine-length 16-inch barrel and a pistol version with a compact 8.5-inch barrel. The rifle model has a complete stock and dummy gas block for a sling and even a bayonet while the pistol has a plug for the receiver tower. Both have free-floating M-Lok modular handguards.

The rifle has a standard A2-style birdcage flash suppressor which is more than enough for a .22 while the pistol has an extended prong-type flash hider. Both are threaded with 1/2×28 threads for use with other popular .22 accessories including suppressors.

The pistol can be adapted to accept a brace and has a standard threaded lower receiver. Because these are rimfire guns they don’t need buffer assemblies. Unloaded the rifle weighs just 5.7 pounds while the pistol measures in at 4.5 pounds dry.

These guns are built to run a wide range of ammunition types, since rimfire ammunition varies widely. In order to work with a variety of loadings they have adjustable bolt carriers that can be tuned to work with low pressure, standard and high-velocity ammo.

Heckler & Koch has 10-, 20- and 30-round magazines for their new .22s each with a suggested price of $35. One cool feature of these mags is an external loading button to quickly and easily reload the magazines.

Another nice touch is that these guns come with flip-up iron sights. A lot of budget-minded guns just drop sights entirely, leaving customers with an expense to handle before they can even get shooting. They also have pistol grips with storage compartments for boresnakes and other small accessories.

If you’ve been waiting for a fun, reliable and affordable AR-based rimfire rifle or pistol, you might want to check out the new guns from Heckler & Koch.

Can you put a buffer tube on them and convert to a regular AR or are they just .22lr only?

HK 416 style AR-15 22lr rifles have been out for years. Made by Walther and distributed by Umarex.

Seems like someone was living underground in their fallout shelter too long.
