The Honored American Veterans Association
Most of what we cover here at GunsAmerica is directly related to guns, or gun news. Sometimes we stray into politics. We’ve pretty much mastered prepping. But we have a softer side, too. Sometimes we find stories that tug at the old heart strings. This was certainly the case with HAVA. And what began as a feel-good story of American veterans-being-treated-as-veterans-should has turned into a long relationship.
What is HAVA?
The following description is from the HAVA website: HAVA is a 501(c)3 organization formed by companies in the shooting and outdoor industry with the purpose of raising awareness and further assisting disabled veterans with their healing process through guided hunts, shooting events and other outdoor sports activities. The sustaining sponsor companies are Smith & Wesson, Mossberg, NSSF, Academi, ATK/Federal, Crimson Trace, Diamondback, FMG Publications, Glock, Hornady, Leupold & Stevens, Proof Research, Ruger, Surefire, Sig Sauer, Taurus, XS Sights, Barrett and Yamaha Outdoors among numerous contributing companies.
From where I sit, HAVA is more complicated. Yes it is a working partnership of dedicated firearms industry insiders, all of whom give their time, treasure, and talents to bring disabled veterans back to hunting and shooting sports. Yet HAVA does something more. The support they provide can be instrumental in building confidence for wounded soldiers. HAVA connects them with each other and with supporters who want to honor the sacrifices these veterans have made on our behalf.
We’re proud to help HAVA. What we have to offer the organization seems paltry when compared to what these men and women have given on our behalf.
