Today, Vice President Kamala Harris announced her selection of Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) as her 2024 running mate, a move that has garnered applause from prominent anti-2A advocates.
Everytown for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action, and Students Demand Action quickly voiced their support.
John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, praised the selection.
“Governor Walz signed a sweeping package of gun safety bills into law just last year, so it’s no surprise that Vice President Harris, who helped lead the strongest gun safety White House in history, picked him as her running mate,” said Feinblatt in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica.
“This election is a life-or-death moment for the clear majority of Americans who are demanding to live free from gun violence,” he continued. “Everytown will go all out to help Vice President Harris and Governor Walz defeat Trump and Vance, whose ‘guns everywhere’ agenda is a dream come true for extremists and criminals.”
Everytown announced just last week that it will spend $45 million this election cycle to “defeat gun extremists up and down the ballot in key swing districts and states.”

No doubt that the majority of that war chest comes from one man: billionaire Micheal Bloomberg. Along with funding Everytown, Bloomberg backs its offshoots Moms Demand Action (MDA) and Students Demand Action (SDA).
Angela Ferrell-Zabala, executive director of MDA, highlighted the shared agenda of Harris and Walz.
“While the Trump-Vance ticket represents danger and extremism, Harris and Walz stand for the future we all deserve,” explained Ferrell-Zabala. “From now until November, we’ll harness the power of our 11 million-strong movement to elect the leaders who will actually fight for a safer America.”

Timberlyn Mazeikis, the leader of Students Demand Action in Minnesota, also chimed in, stating that a Trump administration would result in the loss of rights.
“Gen Z has zero interest in losing any more rights under Donald Trump. We either go forward with a Harris-Walz Administration, or we go back. Gen Z is not going back,” said Mazeikis.
“Gun violence is the number one killer of our generation, meaning we can’t afford anything less than leaders who will prioritize basic gun safety,” she continued. “So the choice is easy. Our weight is behind the ticket that’ll ban assault weapons, not books.”
Governor Walz’s Record on Gun Control (Via Everytown):
- Earlier this year, Governor Walz signed legislation to prohibit automatic weapon modification devices and collect gun crime data.
- Last year, Governor Walz was named State Level Gun Sense Lawmaker of Year at Everytown’s Gun Sense University.
- Everytown endorsed Governor Walz’s 2022 gubernatorial campaign.
- In 2023, after winning a gun sense trifecta in Minnesota that was bolstered by four Moms Demand Action Volunteers running for and winning a seat in the Minnesota Senate, Walz signed a critical public safety omnibus bill into law.
- The measures he signed into law included universal background checks, a Red Flag law, and one of the largest investments in community-based violence prevention programs of any state to date.
Commentary
Walz — who cares?! It really doesn’t matter. Because no matter who Harris picked, she was always going to run a rabidly anti-2A agenda.
There are several reasons for that. For starters, Bloomberg’s billions. The former NYC mayor has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to the DNC (via Everytown, MDA, etc.) over the years with the expectation that, in exchange for the money, they pursue a disarmament agenda.
See, one of Bloomberg’s legacy goals is to eradicate gun culture in America. He simply doesn’t believe we have a fundamental right to keep and bear arms. And due to his power and influence and deep pockets, Dems are all too happy to sign on to that mission.
The second reason is more subtle but equally significant. The DNC aims to curtail 2A rights to make people more dependent on the government. Instead of encouraging citizens to take responsibility for their own and their families’ safety, Democrats would much rather have them rely on the state.
By reducing the populace’s ability to muster up an appropriate self-defense posture, the government increases its control and authority, reinforcing the idea that safety and security are services only the state can provide. In short, the party of big government wants more dependent sheeple, and chipping away at 2A rights is one way to expedite the process.
There are other reasons as well. Like, Dems don’t like the power imbalance between the two sides. Because those on the right own the vast majority of guns in this country, there is a notable disparity in armed capability. This means that conservatives have a greater means of resisting draconian policies, which poses a direct challenge to the would-be tyrants who back such policies…
Anyway, point is, the 2024 Harris-Walz ticket is anti-gun. And, a Harris administration will be anti-gun. Vote accordingly come November.
