Your local supermarket magazine stand should have gotten a supply of the new Guns & Ammo “Book of the AR-15.” On the cover is a unique rifle that was built by the editors with the help of Bravo Company USA to be used as a charity auction for HAVA, which stands for Honoring American Veterans Afield. This auction went live on Sunday, Febuary 27, and will close on Sunday, March 13th.
The project was created by a number of gun industry partners as an idea to take a few disabled American veterans along on writer hunts. It has since grown into a nationwide project
Whether lifetime hunters or those who have never handled a gun outside the military, disabled veterans from all over American can now enjoy this life enriching activity with the help from HAVA.
“More than four years ago,” says HAVA Chairman Tom Taylor, “while preparing for a writer’s hunt in Texas, several outdoor industry partners thought about inviting a few disabled veterans on the next trip. We wanted to give something back. Our founding sponsors were Crimson Trace, FMG Publications, Hornady, Leupold, Smith & Wesson, SureFire, and Yamaha Outdoors. We took four disabled vets on a hunt, and everybody that participated realized this was something special. It was a handgun hunt, so NRA Bianchi Cup legend Doug Koenig performed the handgun training. We took them down to Caney Creek Lodge in Texas, and all four veterans took nice animals. It was clearly an amazing experience for all involved. After that, we concluded that we had enough resources that we could form an organization, so we created Honored American Veterans Afield. Today, Mossberg and the National Rifle Association have joined our list of sustainable sponsors.”
Tom went on to say that the goals of the organization aren’t to become the largest non-profit. It isn’t about notoriety. The individual needs of the veterans are the focus of this 100% volunteer organization.
Veterans interested in attending a HAVA event should send an email through the website at https://www.honoredveterans.org.
100% of the proceeds of this auction, as well as all private donations you may wish to make, will go to putting disabled American veterans and active duty military directly into the field.
