CNN Guest Compares GOP’s Inaction on Gun Control to ‘Mass Human Sacrifice’

In what must be the hottest take of the week, author Kurt Andersen claimed on CNN that the GOP’s refusal to go along with anti-gun legislation amounts to “mass human sacrifice.”

“Perhaps, this revival of mass human sacrifice in the United States is just a passing thing that will go away but… on the other hand, the Republicans have, for years now, been doing a different kind of what is effectively mass human sacrifice in terms of gun deaths and eliminating all gun regulation,” Andersen said as host Jim Acosta nodded along.

“A maximalist view of freedom over lives,” Acosta added.

Acosta was interviewing Andersen about his new book and Atlantic article that likens conservatives who speak out against COVID vaccines to ancient people groups who promoted human sacrifice.

“But now, in the last year, and just starting as soon as there were vaccines available, there were. And really, it strikes me that this is like, so much like the mass human sacrifices in societies in the past which took place in large complex empires not unlike ours,” Andersen claimed.

Andersen is no stranger to anti-gun rhetoric. In 2018, Anderson published a “Big Think” video purporting to explain to viewers “how the gun control debate went crazy.”

In the segment, Andersen repeats the same tired anti-gun talking points about the Second Amendment: that gun rights were reserved for militia members, that guns in the 17th century were much less scary, and that a full-throated defense of gun rights is a recent phenomenon.

“[In the 1970s], the National Rifle Association and the gun lobby more generally went out of its mind, to be blunt, and decided to be absolutists, that there would be no regulation of guns,” Andersen claims.

“I think, really meaningful regulation of the ownership of guns at this point is a political fantasy as a result, ironically, of the Second Amendment absolutists and re-interpreters and revisionists and fantasists having imposed their interpretation of the Second Amendment on all of us,” he concludes.

In 2012, Andersen posted on Facebook that he visited a range in New York city to “fire a semiautomatic .22.”

“Turned out, somewhat shockingly, that I’m a good shot,” he said.

Neither Andersen nor Acosta has made a statement clarifying their comparison of Republicans to murderous ancient peoples.

See, here’s part of the problem we face—
Moronic jackasses, like Anderson, are given a wide platform by the leftist media… and they use it to great effect. But, those on the Right, who are IN the right, are mostly silent. That leaves a few nutty wackos who somehow voice their extreme opinions. The Left then seizes on that to paint the majority that’s opposed to their tyrannical yearnings with the same brush. They are masters of the lie, the deception, the propaganda.
Those on the Right, with small exception, are too apathetic, uninformed, or just plain chickenshit to aggressively push back.

China has gun control. That works well for government suppression. Visiting Olympic Athletes are told don’t say anything bad about China’s government or you could be locked up for disagreeing. The Taliban want everybody to disarm in Afghanistan. Joe Citizen doesn’t need a gun. We will tell you what to do every day. Jews in Poland did not have guns. Do Liberals see where this goes? They probably know already and like it. They need to be transplanted to China, Afghanistan and 1943 Poland for a day and they might change their tune.

We are a society that engages in mass human sacrifice…but it has nothing to do with guns.

Well, thanks for letting us know, but CNN gets more attention from articles like this than they do from their own viewers – they don’t have any.
If only we could only resist the temptation to post stories like this, we would drive the CNNs and MSNBCs out of business. After all, even their own audience would rather watch reruns of “Forensic Files” than any so-called “news” programs on liberal networks.

    • Stan d. Upnow February 5, 2022, 11:03 am

LOL, you think CNN viewers, and the others who watch Fake News, actually read articles posted on “Guns America Digest?” NO, they do not. But, articles like this one help to keep our side aware of the never-ending assault on our rights by the morons & totalitarians on the Left.
      Keep ’em coming, Guns America!

Ahh, the infamous CNN or more accurately CON – Cable Opinion Network. Looks like it/they – shout out to Blue Boy/DogTurd/he/she/it – at CON have ALOT more to be concerned about. Say, like their jobs. Now that Sucker is gone, while his once side – now main squeeze stays, all his little lapdog cronies posing as journalists may join the ranks of the unemployed. We can only hope. I remember when it was an actual 24-hour news source instead of opinion column. What an adulterated, perverted shit-show it has become – no pun intended.

It would be laughable if on any topic, except this individual hammers on an individual God given right without even remotely bringing up as individuals, we are responsible for our actions. It’s not the firearm responsible. The firearm is an object under an individual’s control. Maybe, just maybe society is decaying under the weight of spiritual deficiency. Individuals cannot tell between right and wrong and disregarding life in increasing numbers. I blame that on the political leadership, not firearms.

Speaking of human sacrifices…650-800,000 abortions each year in the USA alone…legal…
Don’t get me wrong…I am pro-choice…but also a male, so it does not affect me so much.
I just like to point out the number for comparison. Because many people do not.
Oh…and if you “follow the science”…a fetus is a living, developing thing…just sayin’…not just a “mass of cells” or a parasite.
Another number? ODs…over 100,000 in the USA in the last year.
    Again…just for comparison.

You’re quite the conundrum. You espouse proper sentiment over the murder of innocents in the womb(and today, after birth even!), yet claim you’re pro-choice? Better sit down and have a serious talk with yourself.

It IS true, that we have sacrificed too many children but it has been on the alter of woke stupidity, unworkable dis-armament of the public. Read Professor John Lott’s “More Guns, Less Crime” 1 & 2, to see the statistics on how more civilian gun ownership REDUCES crime and , therefore killing. Also Prof. Gary Kleck, a self-described LIBERAL Professor of criminology, who was writing anti-gun stuff, until he did some research and discovered that he was WRONG and had the integrity and courage to write the TRUTH. The founding Fathers understood that an armed person is a citizen, while a dis-armed one is a slave. History has shown us that the first thing despots do is dis-arm the public, to make them powerless to resist their tyranny, which is what the leftists are attempting now, abetted by the woke.

  • Blue Dog (he/him) February 3, 2022, 11:39 am

I want to say he is exaggerating but he’s got a point. America pays a price in innocent blood to preserve our gun rights. How many sons and daughters are bump stocks and pistol braces worth? How many schools and churches and synagogues and Holocaust museums are AR-15s and so-called MSRs worth? Common sense would say the price we have already paid is too high.

Was there a specific ancient people mentioned or was that final line an editorial flourish by Mr. Michaels? I like the idea of comparing what Anderson calls maximalist view of freedom to child sacrifice. Instead of the brass hands of Moloch, we place our kids on a burning altar of 80% lowers and the gun show loophole. It works on several levels. And The Scriptures have more than a few things to say about passing children through fire.

    • Ian moone February 4, 2022, 5:21 am

You are dreaming if you think someone like this would be happy with just taking your AR15, well not yours because you probably don’t have any scary simi-autos. It’s not the gun it is society that is the issue. No respect for others. It used to be disrespectful to call someone a name or accuse them of something now that is the first thing anyone does. No respect at a societal level I think allows some to much easier make the leap to no respect for life.

    • MrWolf February 4, 2022, 7:07 am

Wow. Guess you also believe we won the war on drugs which has been going on since I was a kid. Little fact for you, we lost. There is no way to prevent the rest of the world from producing illegal drugs just as there is no way to stop the rest of the world from producing weapons. We do NOT have an issue with MILITARY arms being used for crimes here. Understand that and quit grouping civilian firearms with MILITARY ones. Disarming law abiding citizens to encourage criminals does not work even in your fantasy land. CRIMINALS MUST BE PROSECUTED and not be released or given a small slap on the wrist. Enforce existing laws and watch how fast gun crimes come down. Law abiding citizens with guns SAVE approximately 500,000 lives a year or more which far exceeds the number of gun deaths. You do know there are only about 40,000 gun deaths a year, right? You do know they have to include SUICIDES in that number which accounted for about half the deaths. Wonder why they do that? Maybe because gun deaths are no where near as bad as the LEFT and MEDIA want. Try using real facts instead of emotions and enforcing personal views on everyone to the detriment of law abiding citizens.

      • Stan d. Upnow February 5, 2022, 11:53 am

Please, MrWolf, save your breath. Facts, logic, history are wasted on the leftist ideologues. The Left is truly a cult, and as such, they are intolerant & immune to rational argument. Believe me, I know!

    • Thoughtful February 4, 2022, 7:56 am

Again with your typical anti 2A BS, you have spouted the same old tired rhetoric as the guest on CNN. Can you explain to me what the “Gun Show Loophole“ is about? Of course you would like sensationalism of “child sacrifice”. Typical leftist propaganda to pull emotional strings rather than looking at facts. You are a trolling leftist idiot disguised as a “gun enthusiast”, when in fact you are anti-American nujob. Buy hey, someone is paying you to spout that nonsense……Brady, Bloomberg? Who pays your bills so you can sit in your Mom’s basement and blog your anti-2A BS?

      • Blue Dog (he/him) February 4, 2022, 9:42 am

Yes, I will gladly elaborate on terms. The gun show loophole refers to private sales between individuals that happen without a background check. Some states require universal background checks but some have failed to require background checks on firearm sales between non-FFLs – in common parlance, the gun show loophole.

        • Stan d. Upnow February 5, 2022, 12:12 pm

Having worked in the firearms trade for years, and also having attended many gun shows, I can personally attest to what you said as a flat-out lie!
At every show I attended, no firearms were allowed to be carried into the hall by other than registered exhibitors. Any private sales were conducted by two interested parties on their own terms and at some designated location, but NOT at the gun show! The exception would be for blackpowder guns and some classified as antiques, which do not require federal form 4473, nor background checks.
All sales by licensed dealers were conducted exactly as they would be as if in the store, i.e., NICS checks were done, as well as required paperwork with proper identification.

I suggest you stop swallowing and regurgitating the lies your leaders on the Left spoon-feed you, and get a little education before peddling such swill.

          • Blue Dog (he/him) February 5, 2022, 7:06 pm

Stan, while what you describe is a wonderful, common-sense model for gun shows, it simply is not like that in every state. In my city, any citizen can check their firearm at the door, checking to make sure it is unloaded and banded to prevent loading, and can sell that firearm to another individual – either a vendor or a fellow show attendee, background checks only required for a citizen buying from FFL dealers. Citizens can bring any firearm legal to possess, from a single-shot 20ga to an AR-15, and sell that firearm at their discretion.

I speak from experience. I am not peddling second-hand swill from some overhyped rumor monger. I used to have an FFL. I may not know what is required in each of the 50 states but I know the rules in my state quite well.

        • Shanz February 5, 2022, 5:56 pm

You’re so full of shit blue tard. Go try to buy a gun any where without background check. I’m so sick of your shit lies.

Please explain this “Gun Show Loophole”, in your own words, as opposed to the regurgitation of Left-Wing Propaganda.
We’ll wait, give you time to formulate your answer.

I answered this challenge in another comment above, either I made my comment while yours was awaiting moderation or you made your comment while mine awaited moderation.

The gun show loophole refers to sales between private individuals that happen without a background check. This is not limited to gun shows but that is the name that has stuck on this loophole. These can even happen online, locally, on something like a facebook group. POTENTIALLY this could happen across state lines if someone is willing to drive, kind of like Kyle Rittenhouse driving across state lines to get a weapon of war.

        • MrWolf February 4, 2022, 12:27 pm

Wow. So you are now putting criminals in with law abiding citizens again? Anyone who drives across state lines and purchase a gun privately (no records or background checks) against current state regulations is a CRIMINAL and basically buying off the black market. Many states allow private citizens of the SAME state to purchase from other residents of that same state, after determining to the best of their ability that the purchaser is legally able to purchase the gun (some states allow only long guns to be purchase that way). Failure to do so results in a CRIME. Since there are only 20,000 gun deaths (not including suicides in the US each year), what kind of numbers are you talking about? Significantly more people are killed each year from another’s hand or feet than by guns. Maybe we should restrict them also? Several hundred thousand deaths occur each year do to medical malpractice. Guess we should eliminate doctors now too. Stick with facts. The CDC did a study a few years ago: Volume 68, Number 6 Deaths: Leading Causes for 2017 Published June 24, 2019
Table A. List of 113 selected causes of death… (Look it up)
Were do firearm deaths appear? Listed as the 107th ranked Assault (homicide) by discharge of firearms out of the total 113 listed categories. They had to include suicides that accounted for half the firearm deaths just for it to make the list. Pretty weird they used the TOP 113 causes of deaths for a study or does the government have an agenda?

        • Stan d. Upnow February 5, 2022, 12:34 pm

You go from bad to worse. Now, you’ve devolved to the level of outright stupidity!
If two private individuals wish to engage in a firearm transaction, and they live in separate states, they MUST, by law, ship the firearm to a FFL dealer and go through all required paperwork, which includes a background check! To do otherwise is a federal(and likely state) felony, with stiff penalties.

You, and those like you, believe you can just order-up any gun from an on-line dealer and, PRESTO!, it arrives via UPS in a week with no paperwork or background check. That’s a big, fat Lie!

And your asinine comment regarding Kyle Rittenhouse would be laughable, if it wasn’t so pathetically wrong. Yes, he drove across state lines, but the gun he used was legally possessed by his uncle, who resided in that state. He did Not purchase the gun in a private transaction and have it shipped across state lines, which Would be illegal.

And as for your “weapon of war” comment…. refer to the second sentence at the start of my reply.

    • Stan d. Upnow February 5, 2022, 11:44 am

I have dealt with your kind for many, many years. As just one typical example: A former friend was a rabid anti-gunner, and an attorney(of course!). In all his self-righteous arrogance, he once asked me if it wouldn’t be worth it to get rid of ALL guns if it would save just one life. Naturally, as flows from the Liberal mindset, he didn’t specify who that life belonged to– a criminal, an innocent adult, or a child, or maybe a foreign soldier.

I said, “NO.” He called me several off-names(again, typical of your type) and said I was crazy. Yet, when I presented him with a scenario where several home invaders broke into his house with the inevitable result of raping/murdering his wife, himself, and their baby, while robbing their home —a crime preventable if he were armed— and asked him if he was still for banning all firearms, he fell silent. You should have seen the look on his face.

They say we only use 10% of our brains. You, and those of your ilk, are living proof of that!
