I don’t know what started me down the rabbit hole of gun control and racism (maybe it’s all this “identity politics” talk by the mainstream media) but I came across this 2017 NRA-produced video on Youtube (see above), conveniently titled, “Gun Control’s Racist History.” It’s a pretty good primer on the racist roots of gun control and follows in the footsteps of a two-part series produced by JFPO in 2009 called, “No Guns for Negroes.”
The other thing I realized in my search is that there’s a lot of great content in the GunsAmerica archives on the subject. Paul has written at least two cogent editorials on the matter which are worth checking out: “Eric Holder Racist Anti-Gun Rant Victimizes Minorities,” and “The Problem is Black People? – Inner City Gun Violence, Obama, Bloomberg & China.”
What one quickly realizes is that gun control has always disproportionately affected poor and working-class people, but particularly blacks. Many laws following slavery were crafted with the sole intent to deny blacks their right to keep and bear arms. That tradition has continued over the years with laws targeting inexpensive firearms, e.g. “Saturday Night Specials” and the adoption of may-issue concealed carry standards that give law enforcement the capacity to arbitrarily prevent “certain people” from bearing arms.
Today it’s not postbellum racists leading the charge to suppress blacks from owning guns but anti-gunners. What they don’t understand, or maybe they secretly do, is that disarming America only creates more victims. And since black people are the ones most frequently victimized by bad guys with guns, they are in essence creating more black victims.
As Paul notes in his editorials, instead of disarming law-abiding blacks they ought to be empowering them to learn how to defend themselves, their families and their communities. Shift the paradigm from a community of victimhood to one of an elevated level of personal responsibility and self-sufficiency. The truth is that the venerable black leaders of the ’60s like MLK and Rosa Parks always preached that latter approach (it’s why MLK and Parks obtained a gun license). It’s only in recent decades that black leadership, under people like Barack Obama and Eric Holder, has been pushing blacks to sacrifice their rights at the altar of the Nanny State, which works simultaneously to undermine individual liberties and line the pockets of those in power.

Ronnie: Why does the leadership of the NRA find it necessary to state that It is our “god” given right to bear arms. I am a member and I give funds willingly to support the cause. I am also an atheist, so where does that leave me. Kinda smells like separation of church and state huh.
If it’s just another point that helps the issue, why fight it? Would you rather they say, “big bang-given rights”???
And btw, there is NO such thing as the so-called “separation of church and state”. Doesn’t exist. Just fyi.
GARY: I support the NRA with hundreds of dollars worth of contributions. I have learned from trying to get them to acknowledge their atheist members that they are NOT listening. For now they are the most effective tool to use against the anti gunners. FOR NOW.

this is also the reason that when the democRATS / KKK from the south weren’t able to stop the blacks from getting to vote they said ok the blacks will get to vote but we will get them to vote the way we want them to by getting them hooked on welfare and all the other things the government gives the blacks for free so we can have them vote the way we want them to and the democRATS / KKK has had the blacks voting their way ever since. this why the democRATS keep telling the blacks and other non-whites that they are all for helping them if they just keep them in office.
when really all their doing is nothing for the non-whites but keeping them down and telling them that without the democRATS they will have nothing. but if you look at history it has been the Republicans who have done all the things that have helped the blacks and non-whites to better themselves and not to depend on the government for their needs.
While blacks are often the victims of more gun violence, as stated, where do they fall on the list of offenders? Just curious. You have presented one side, but not the other.
Any person who can pass a background check and who has the proper training in the use and safety of the firearm they want to purchase should not be denied the right to purchase the firearm.
By what standard do you think somebody has the right to defend them self? Since you reject the right to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED? Just wondering.
Let’s face the fact that the elite do not want the common people to have guns. If the common people are armed, then the elite cannot control them.
10-4. It is as simple as that, and the founding fathers knew. IMHO. it is why the last 4 words of the second amendment are there \”shall not be infringed\”. And yet, so many have so difficult a time either understanding or accepting them.

That’s the same conclusion I realized in CA about CCW’s. Between the classes and fees, it costs about $500 before you even buy the pistol on the approved gun list. Prices have been dropping but with all the extra taxes we pay here, only the more-well-to-do can afford it. The lower class{read minorities}who really need it in the crime ridden neighborhoods can’t. If we fought gun control on the premise of racist discrimination we might make more progress. Are you listening, NRA?
I love this video, The one thing missing is it was the N.R.A. that fought for every Americans right to enjoy the rights of our constitution which includes the 2nd. amendment.The N.R.A has been defending these constitutional rights for over 150 years.
Look up the history of the N.R.A. and if your not a member, you will want to be.
This article actually makes more sense than any I have read before. It’s all about money and power. Power in the wrong hands can be a very dangerous thing.
