Gander Mountain announced last week its plan to add Slovakian-made Grand Power pistols to its inventory.
The pistols are imported into the U.S. by Eagle Imports, which distributes firearms from several other countries and manufacturers including Bersa, S.P.S., and Llama.
“We are very proud to have the Grand Power brand represented in the Gander Mountain stores across the country,” Michael Sodini, president of Eagle Imports, Inc. said in a statement. “Grand Powers are extremely well engineered and their reputation in the US continues to grow. We are confident that Gander Mountain will be instrumental in helping more Americans discover the amazing attributes of this pistol line.”
Grand Power has developed a full 12-pistol lineup, but it isn’t clear which models will be available in Gander Mountain stores.
Right now the only pistol to appear online is Grand Power’s all-purpose K100. The K100 is a full-size (15+1) single/double action semi-automatic handgun. It’s currently available in 9mm, and Gander Mountain lists it at $549.99.
The K100’s most distinctive feature (which it shares with many other Grand Power pistols) is its rotating barrel. The barrel rotates back on each shot instead of dropping down, which, according to the company, reduces felt recoil and helps keep the sights on target.
Beretta fans might recognize the locking system from the PX4. That system uses a machined lug on the barrel to ride in a milled slot in the frame.
Grand Power’s design reverses the placement of the lug and the groove: the K100’s barrel is milled with a flat helical cam path which matches up with a roller bearing in the frame. The company claims that their design “allows for tighter tolerances and higher reliability.”
The Slovakian firearm company was founded in 2002 by CEO and owner Jaroslav Kuracina, who was a former weapons officer in the Slovak army.
Gander Mountain’s decision to take a chance on Grand Power signals the widespread acceptance of relatively new firearm companies by U.S. consumers. As the market continues to grow, firearms enthusiasts will be looking at more options than ever before.
Don’t forget, for the best deal on Grand Power pistols, you can always shop GunsAmerica.
An interesting discussion is worth comment. I do
believe that you ought to write more on this issue, it might not be
a taboo matter but typically people don’t discuss these topics.
To the next! Kind regards!!
That is neat, but what mags are interchangeable with it? Why not get a Stoeger Cougar if you want a rotating barrel?
Hey,
This is a great post. Thanks so much for providing this update about Gander Mountain\’s stock. It is interesting to see where they acquire different products from.
Best,
Dennis
Ya know, just the other day I was thinking “gee, I wish I could find a double column semi auto with a plastic frame” somewhere. Lo and behold, this pistol appears headed our way.
I also want to see more labeled made in America, but sometimes competition is good to drive prices down. I am old school and like steel framed pistols which are getting harder to find. Hint, Henry the ball is in your court.
While I would much rather see this made in the US, I have to admit I am eager to see how this measures up. Maybe this will spur the American market to lower some prices our make some improvements. I like the 40 cal they have. Looking forward to the review. I like the price point. Average Joe approved.
