Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis indicated this week that a special legislative session may tackle constitutional carry, among other priorities, in the not too distant future.

The session would be held in mid-April with a focus on creating a new congressional map for the state.  But lawmakers could bring up other issues as well.

“I would love to have property insurance, I would love to have data privacy, I would love to have constitutional carry,” DeSantis said. “I will ask the legislative leaders, ‘Is there something that you can get across the finish line?’ And I will encourage them to do that.”

Constitutional carry was introduced last session in the state House but never made it out of a committee.

On Twitter, Rep. Matt Gaetz cheered the announcement.

“Thank you @GovRonDeSantis for calling a special session in the FL Legislature to pass Constitutional Carry,” wrote Gaetz.

“I encourage Florida’s state lawmakers to pass @AnthonySabatini’s Constitutional Carry bill immediately! The only permit a gun owner should need is the Second Amendment.”

Rep. Sabatini, a longtime supporter of permitless carry, was also excited by the news.

“Thank you to the patriots around our State who’ve joined me in keeping this issue at the forefront for the last 3 years,” he tweeted. “RINOs have killed my Con Carry Bill for 3 years—not this time!”

Alabama, Indiana, and Ohio all went permitless this year. Twenty-four states, nearly half the country, now allow law-abiding citizens to bear arms without any bureaucratic interference or red tape.

I’m a Florida resident and have had a Florida Concealed Weapon License since 2010. I took the mandatory training required for initial license issue, which included several hours of classroom instruction and time at a gun range. All total, the initial license cost me around $160 (training cost+license fees). Florida concealed carry permits are good for 7 years. License renewal was a breeze, with no further training required, although the renewal fee totaled $60.

I have mixed feelings about constitutional carry. On the one hand, I wouldn’t shed any tears over concealed weapon license and associated fee requirements disappearing in Florida. But I’m glad I went through the classroom and range training required for initial license issue. I could be wrong , but I doubt many people bother with any formal training (to include legal discussion and practical firearm handling and safety instruction) in states with constitutional carry. I don’t count going to a shooting range and firing bullets at a paper target as formal training, other than perhaps honing one’s shooting skills.

Gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay gay.

And before you guys go there, I am not gay. And that is okay.

The scariest thing about constitutional carry is that there is no assurance that these folks carrying handguns have any familiarity with gun safety. A lot of men think that knowing how to handle guns like they are in a movie fighting the Yakuza as part of being a guy and in reality they are reckless. I know people like that and if you say you don’t know any reckless knuckleheads, you are either a liar or the reckless knucklehead is you. I am pretty sure this is a component of toxic masculinity.

bluenuts, if you actually read the bill; the bill is not called “don’t say gay”. Second, it’s a anti-groomer bill. Apparently, you’re a groomer that likes diddling w/ kids. Name 1 state where they passed Constitutional Carry and where they’ve had a spike in crime, I’m waiting. I asked earlier if you were paid to be this dumb; it’s pretty obviously your ignorance is natural.

The “Scariest” thing about the 1st Amendment. is that there are no assurances that people freely expressing their opinions actually know what they are talking about, or responsibly inform themselves before they do………Like Imbeciles that propagate the LIE that the Florida bill that Blue “Dimwitted” Dog cites includes a provision to “not Say Gay”.
