Succumbing to the collective outrage from his neighbors, the Florida man who set up a gun range in his yard of his residential home took it down on Wednesday, ABC Action News reported.
“Put a lot of work into it,” said Joey Carannante, the owner of the range, as he separated the heap of sand from the wood pallets, “but, you know, safety is a priority to me.”
Carannante had set up the range in Lakewood Estates, a suburb of St. Petersburg but came under immediate fire (forgive the pun) from concerned neighbors who believed that he was putting their lives and the lives of their children in danger.
It seemed as though the matter was settled somewhat amicably, as Carannante received a free one-year membership to a local gun range: Shooters World in Tampa. Though, he maintains the membership did not factor into his decision to disassemble his private range.
Now local residents are pushing a petition that would ban shooting ranges in residential areas and within 500 feet from occupied buildings.
1000 % fake! You must call out these Liberal wanks.
Also, take note on who the guy is, that always puts up this style of video or article.
I like to refer to these as; “S.H. BLANNELBERRY Specials”
Was Brian Williams anywhere near this area by chance?
Well, he was still in the process of rounding up targets…….Muslims………
ABC = All Barack Channel———-> Bullshit<———–
Now now Russ. Don’t get your knickers in a knot just because you have your head so far up in your cat’s litterbox that you can’t see the light of day. If you can’t see, or won’t admit how far in the tanks the media are for Obama, then you are as delusional as he is narcisisstic.
And this story is definitely a put up job. I lived in Florida for 30 years and never ever heard of anyone doing something this stupid. There are tons of places we could go to shoot including public, private land, and ranges. Someone local needs to look more closely at this whole scenario. Someone is playing this puppet.
Ouch! W. Radford!
You just hurt my feelings for no reason, LOL, and I don’t wear knickers or even have a cat.
You took my post totally wrong.
What I tried to say there as briefly as possible is;
ABC is a news channel, that will say and do whatever our Domestic Terrorist and Chief wants them to.
It’s Barack’s Channel.
I agree with all you just posted, and had a good laugh with your confusion about my position.
I LIVE IN NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDA, WITHIN CITY LIMITS. I/2 ACRE RESIDENTIAL LOT SUBDIVISION. NO FIREARM DISCHARGING ALLOWED. ACROSS THE STREET, AT MY NEIGHBORS REAR PROPERTY LINE, IT TURNS TO UNINCORPORATED COUNTY RESIDENTIAL/AG LAND. THOSE PEOPLE SHOOT ALL THE TIME. IT REALLY PISSES ME OFF! JUST 50 YARDS SOUTH, AND I COULD BE SHOOTING AT MY OWN PRIVATE, RESIDENTIAL RANGE. BUT, ONLY PROVIDING I DO NOT SHOOT WITHIN 500 FEET OF A RESIDENCE (THEY DO), AND THAT I FOLLOW SAFE SHOOTING PRACTICES. THAT IS THE ISSUE. THERE ARE LAWS AND REGULATIONS EVERYWHERE THAT REGULATE SHOOTING/HUNTING IN SOME WAY. THEN THERE IS COMMON DECENCY AND SANITY. I WOULD NOT SET UP A RANGE IN ANY “RESIDENTIAL” AREA, EVEN IF IT WAS ALLOWED. I WOULD BE TOO CONCERNED WITH RICOCHETS, STRAY ROUNDS, AND NOISE/SAFETY CONCERNS FOR NEIGHBORS. GOD FORBID SOMEONE GETS HURT BECAUSE OF MY NEGLIGENCE. I COULD NOT LIVE WITH THAT. I AM A SECOND AMENDMANT SUPPORTER, AN NRA LIFE MEMBER/ INSTRUCTOR, RETIRED LEO/ARMORER, HUNTER, SHOOTER, HUSBAND, FATHER, AND LAW ABIDING AMERICAN BY BIRTH AND ANCESTRY. I BELEIVE THAT IF WE OBEY THE LAWS AND REGULATIONS, AND HAVE THE RIGHT PLACE TO HAVE OUR OWN SHOOTING RANGE OR HUNTING PROPERTY, GO FOR IT! I HAVE FRIENDS SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY THAT HAVE THEIR OWN HOME SHOOTING RANGES. BUT, THEY ARE NOT BE IN ANY RESIDENTIAL AREA UNLESS IT IS ZONED FOR AT LEAST 5 ACRE PARCELS. COMMON SENSE SHOULD BE THE RULE, ANYWHERE! THAT IS WHY I AM SAVING MY SHECKELS FOR 20 ACRES OF RURAL PROPERTY AS FAR FROM CIVILIZATION AS IS REASONABLY POSSIBLE. CARRY ON.
What was this guy thinking ? Put aside the safety issue for a moment and think about the noise factor and subjecting the neighborhood to the sound of gunfire at what ever hour of the day. And then to give some folks an in to get more gun laws
passed ? Inexcusable
I’m in Florida now and saw that story on the local news. In my opinion the guy was a nutcase just trying to cause problems or get his 15 minutes of fame. I’m an active gun owner and CCL holder and I would NEVER put a gun range in my back yard near other homes. Way to dangerous for everybody, and too much legal liability for me. So this is not a gun rights issue or anything else. Just some nutcase acting like an idiot and making all gun owners look stupid and irresponsible. We don’t need guns in the hands of people like him, and he shouldn’t be allowed to breed the next generation either.
You can’t keep idiots from doing idiotic things. There are a number of gun ranges in that area. Go there.

You guys should be posting these comments on video’s youtube page
So build an indoor range in your basement and sound proof it with somr mineral fiber ; ROXUL SAFE & SOIND. Sold thru LOWES,& HOME DEPOT. It’s ironic that most villages don’t want gun stores or gun ranges in their city limits….. That is until this last recession when towns were devastated by their tax base going down the drain because people were loseing their jobs, which caused local businesses to go belly up too. In East Dundee, Illinois the local Walmart from what I understand wanted tax concessions or they would leave the town. Well, since GAT Guns generates more tax revenue than that local Walmart, the village decided annexing GAT guns into the city limits was more advantages to them . Buh bye Walmart
Another Cheap Shot at responsible gun owners! There is no one who believes in putting up a gun range in their back yard unless their back yard is hundreds of acres deep or has a large uninhabited geographical object (hill) or mountain in their back yard. Only an idiot or rabid anti-gunner could come such stupid and irresponsible idea.
This complete story has the distinct fingerprints and stinks with anti-gun deception practices as another Bloomberg anti-gun over reach scheme.
Staged, this is fake! There were no rounds ever fired at that so called makeshift target backstop! This was done to draw publicity across the state to kill the loophole. Just another way for the govt. to rid homeowners of their tools. Granted a range should never be erected in a residential neighborhood, this I agree with, however the way it was done is cheesy.
Needless to say, this administration and the people who support it will someday regret what they are doing when gun owners will be called upon to defend this once great nation!
Here in rural Northern Maine I have no such trouble. 16 acres of land and hardly any neighbors. The ones I do have nearby often join me as my range is a 300 yard piece of work with tree length logs stacked 15 ft high and dozens deep as a back stop. Did I mention that my back porch is the firing line? That is why I live here.
Does everyone forget that every city in America has laws that make it illegal to discharge a firearm in city limits. St. Pete is no exception. Ranges also need special permits for operation, even private ones. Definitely should be looked at closer to see what the real story is.
Most, yes. Not every. And, even in cities/towns that do have those laws, there can be areas inside the limits that aren’t part of said city or town. They’re called county islands here, land that is completely surrounded by city or town land but isn’t itself part of that city or town.
Not in Florida. Perhaps spending a few moments on google would tell you that your incorrect.
And you dared to use the nick “Logic”.
Total failure on your part.
Not down here in Florida they don’t. Only the state can create gun ordinances. What he did here is perfectly legal in Florida. Not saying it is right to do it, only that it is legal.
It is legal, and lethal, here in Florida. A few months ago someone in one of those outlying wooded communities was killed by stray from a neighbor target shooting. I only have one neighbor within pistol shot range. He practices with his full automatic rifle in his backyard so whatever I do should be alright with him.
“shooting ranges in residential areas and within 500 feet from occupied buildings”.
sounds like it has to be in the middle of nowhere with that “and” in there. I wonder if that range is in compliance, I know the one round here isn’t.
I’ll bet break in’s increase with the added publicity.
Yes 500 feet because that stops a bullet. Other than reduced slightly noise, 500 seams random. It does seamed staged.
We gave our local home gunner a life time membership to the range at BIG PINE KEY GUN RANGE
I Think I remember this story.
Guy was a retired LEO and liked using the .380 in the back yard, correct?
Thanks for stepping up you guys at Big Pine. Just because we CAN shoot in our yards,
don’t necessarily make it the right thing to do.
That all looked fake to me for some reason…staged BS from the All Barack Channel ABC.
I shoot suppressed subsonic 22 in my backyard all the time. With a good backstop and careful aim there’s no trouble. I only fire slow and off a bipod. My bullets are slower than my buddies super duper pellet gun’s 22cal pellets are! Fortunately my neighbors join me, they don’t pump up a fake story to the mainstream liberal lying media.
This should be called “Actor makes fake range to get laws to ban gun ranges started.”
News report…. Safety concern that goes directly into need more laws = Staged
I mean anyone with half a brain can see that that so called backyard gun range was never shot at.
no bullet holes
no wood fragments in sand
no bullet fragments in sand
Lastly, any reasonable gun owner would look at that pile of sand and wood pallets and say “ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?” and not shoot at it.
I agree with you. Looked like to me the kid just set it up or even with the help of his neighbors. Didnt see one bullet hole or frag of wood. Looked very new, possibly just set up. Just another way to put more restrictive laws on guns if you ask me.
One other thing I wanted to add, had to watch the video a couple of times, the neighbor talking looked like to me had a pistol on his hip. If you ask me he looked like he could have been military or even federal in some way. As James said any gun owner would have looked at that shooting target and said no way. I know me being a gun owner and others too would never put themselves in a situation were they could possible have a stray bullet or a situation where there going to jail like that kid had set up. I think staged myself.
I would never doubt your observation here, James.
Looks and sounds about right to me.
