The mayor of Poughkeepsie, NY recently dropped out of MAIG, but thinking that the organization has lost is power is a mistake.

The mayor of Poughkeepsie, NY recently dropped out of MAIG with a very public editorial for the local newspaper, but thinking that MAIG has lost its power is a mistake. They are still upwards of a thousand mayors strong, and we as gun owners must work to drain that pond.

It is time to dismantle “Mayors Against Illegal Guns,” or MAIG. The organization started as a great idea. Who doesn’t want to fight the transfer of illegal guns? The problem is, this organization was corrupt from the start. Started by **former** mayors Micheal Bloomberg and Boston’s Thomas Menino, it has now come out that the intent of of the group was always to confiscate all firearms from legal and law abiding gun owners. This week marked the departure from the group of Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Mayor John C. Tkazyik. He claims to be an NRA member and that he has always supported lawful firearms ownership. Apparently he was lured into MAIG with false promises of support for programs that get actual results in fighting local crime and homicides, then eventually figured out that MAIG was just a bunch of gun grabbers with an Orwelian reverse-think name.

This was great news, but though it may seem like we have made some progress on he 2nd Amendment front, there are 1,000 mayors in MAIG, and it is time for gun owners to stand up and be counted. Check out the roster for your mayor, and if he or she is there, do everything in your power to get them out of MAIG, or out of office.

In editorial for his local paper, Mayor Tkazvik says, “ I don’t believe, never have believed and never will believe that public safety is enhanced by encroaching on our right to bear arms, and I will not be a part of any organization that does.” The paper has shut several outside links to the article down, requiring that people pay for the newspaper to read it, but this link works as of this morning.

This is the list on archive.org, the one that MAIG didn't realize wasn't erased. Hover or click and you will see the page URL for the contact info for this mayor.

This story was reported in some of the conservative press, and the NRA claims that over 75 mayors have quit since joining, but this is a FALSE sense of success. Remember back before both the 2008 and 2012 elections when the “right wing” media made us feel like Obama couldn’t win the election, then we watched those same commentators hold back their giggling as the election results came in? Neither race was even close when the final numbers came out. Reporting on some dribs and drabs of success in the pro-2nd Amendment fight today is the same deal. We are being gamed into inaction, and when it comes right down to it, WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO WILL ACT.

If you want to help SHUT DOWN BLOOMBERG and his millions of dollars of election money influence, the first thing we need to do is shut down MAIG. They removed the official member roster in January from the MAIG website, but the Internet Archive has a copy that they can’t hide from. 50 or 100 dropouts from 1,000 mayors is nothing. It may sound like success, but if Micheal Bloomberg continues, we all fail.

This is a link to the member list as of January 7th, 2014:

Please be aware that archive.org is a slow website, and with tens of thousands of people from this article hitting it today, you may have to try again tomorrow. We have created this live web page backup that you can search with CONTROL-F, and we fixed the links to go directly to their destinations (see below). There is also a 5 Meg, 91 page PDF of the member roster that you may also download.

If you click the link on the list, the archive.org page comes up, if it exists. The actual URL can be found in two places on the page.

If you click the link on the list, the archive.org page comes up, if it exists. The actual URL can be found in two places on the page. You will need this to fill out a working contact form if that is the only way to reach the mayor.

The member page itself on archive.org is a copy remember. The links on it will lead to copy websites within archive.org, if they exist. Any contact forms within the copy website won’t work. The images here explain how to get the real URL of the contact pages, Twitter and Facebook. Click these images to see them larger with instructions.

Please check the list for your mayor and if he or she is on there, do everything in your power, through your social networking and personal email list, to get them out of MAIG, or out of office. If America speaks right now, and shuts down MAIG, Bloomberg’s promises of millions in campaign contributions for senators and reps in the 2014 election will look like a poisoned apple, which is exactly what it is. We have to hold their feet to the fire right now, so please act now and get these mayors out of MAIG.

Where is the action in all of these comments? Gun owners and gun shows post the mayors at front entrance explaining the movement to rid the mayors! Geez, the taught passive thinking public education system has taught us to only talk about a subject but not pursue it. I bet the next person who post the next comment will be on the subject of square 1 of all talk about everything but action to make something happen.

For my part, on a broader note, I look at the “conversion” of Mayor Tkazyik with great skepticism; no politician can be naive enough not to have known MAIG’s intent as it was widely discussed in the press and was/is an ongoing topic of public discourse. It’s my belief that politicians, for the most part, are the most self-serving lot on a list that includes the media. They have few, if any, ethical boundaries other than their own survival and will throw anything, or any one, under the proverbial bus to achieve that end which is why we need to be monitoring them closely and holding them accountable.

Instead of trying to feed 50 states’ worth of mayors all through the same data pipeline/funnel, it would be more intelligent to have a list of states (or a map). That way when you click on your state to look for your mayor, you are not competing for data access with 49 other states and thousands of other people. It would take a little better organization, but would get a lot more information out a lot faster so that everybody isn’t fusterclucking all over everybody else trying to get the basic information about which mayors need and education and which ones don’t. Obama knows how to organize. If you want to beat him, you have to learn how to organize too.

Look at all of the disgusting Mayors for Colorado in the organization. Unfortunately they are mostly from the liberal Front Range and Boulder County. The city of Boulder is 25 square miles surrounded by reality!

  • Rob February 13, 2014, 1:18 pm

This is an incorrect list. You say 45out of 50, but there are 6 states, not 5 that are not on the list: Alaska, Idaho, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wyoming. Also, the District of Columbia is not a state.

    • Administrator February 13, 2014, 1:59 pm

Geez didn’t think to actually count them. Why not check the actual list for your state? I mean call me crazy, but…

  • Gala Poola February 13, 2014, 1:01 pm

Words, words & damn words. Can we in the freedom loving demographic of society please cease from using terms that the enemy own? When we allow the tyrants to establish the rules, we give them an unearned advantage. It’s like the old newspaper reporter question, “Mayor, how long have you been beating your wife?” People like Bloomberg frame the debate by using the phrase “illegal gun”. By attaching the word “illegal” to anything, it immediately affords the tyrant a position of advantage. There is no such thing as an “illegal gun”, inanimate objects can not break a law, they can not be arrested, they can not be indited, they can not stand trial, they can not be convicted and they can not be sentenced to jail time. The whole “illegal gun” scam is to divert attention away from the social issue that these tyrants refuse to address, the guy using the gun in an illegal manner. There is illegal possession & illegal use of firearms but that points back to a person. Illegality is never a concept attached to objects, it is always attached to human behavior. I understand it is just easier to regurgitate the talking point phrase, and I assume most freedom loving Americans understand the difference but let’s not play into their hands. If we are discussing MAIG simply refer to the offending behavior as illegal use of gun or illegal possession of a gun and qualify both with the actor, not the gun. If Bloomberg is serious about criminal behavior, he’d welcome the clarification. We know he is not, his solution to crime is get rid of the guns. It may be even his total hate for guns which is my guess. Either way the thrust of his effort is getting rid of the guns. We should constantly re-frame the debate by simply changing the phrase “illegal gun” to “criminal use/possession of a gun”. You say it often enough eventually people will get the difference. On the rare occasion that the Bloombergs of the world are confronted with “criminal use/possession of a gun” instead of their words, they are left with no where else to go. They either agree with our position or the truth slips out that the end game is a gun free utopia. That’s when we win. The majority of Americans have already proven with their bank accounts that they want to own guns for legitimate lawful purposes. -End of rant.

    • Tom Haener February 13, 2014, 6:16 pm

      Great point; nicely stated!

    • randy crawford February 14, 2014, 6:55 pm

Exactly. That’s why it’s time to get rid of illegal mayors and illegal stupidity. They just haven’t made stupidity officially illegal yet, which is why the officials display so much of it. That’s also why juries and We the People are around to make stupidity go bye-bye.

      • OFBG February 17, 2014, 8:25 pm

Just for future reference, the question is “When did you stop beating your wife?” but of course I get your point.

  • Gym February 13, 2014, 12:40 pm

Belonging to MAIG establishes the low end of the IQ scale with those expected to be there present and accounted for. Some day these retards will figure out that guns do not walk, talk and crawl on their belly like reptiles. MAIG has done more to enhance the necessity for self defense (gun ownership & concealed carry) by devoting resources to an inanimate object rather than addressing the real problem, the physios walking among us willing to use it.

  • Paul February 13, 2014, 12:33 pm

Thanks for digging out the Dis-honor List of gun-grabbers and traitors.
Should be noted that listed (now former) Mayor of Morrisville, NC Jackie “Hollow Comb” Holcombe lost her seat last November, primarily due to her outcries for gun control.
She was not bad overall, but stepped onto the wrong toes (of pro-2A residents) and was dropped like a rock.

We should stay active and vigilant, opposing each and every effort of attacking our Constitutional Rights and Freedoms.
    Restore the Republic!

  • Al February 13, 2014, 11:46 am

I’ve read the MAIG document and see absolutely nothing that would allow or even encourage the taking of guns from law abiding citizens.

I have noticed that, with all of the statements saying that the present government wants to take away our guns, more people own more guns than ever. Since Obama became president, I have purchased three ARs and two handguns.

    • Administrator February 13, 2014, 12:26 pm

Oh look it is a hired Bloomberg shill just doing his job. Nice of you to show up finally “Al.” It’s funny how all of you guys use the same methodology, completely ignoring the fact that one of the mayors actually in the group just came out publicly in an editorial explaining that the group is a sham aimed at taking guns away from law abiding Americans. Hey at least you did your job though right.

  • phil box February 13, 2014, 11:16 am

am i mistaken or is this the first time the media has suggested actually setting your mayor on fire?
suggests maybe nothing is more tasty than roasted pig?
    not

  • James February 13, 2014, 9:31 am

Just a little chuckle for these chuckle-heads, their archived website shows a photo of the mayor of Denver……. the face is that of the states governor…… Chickenlooper, who happens to be a white face…… the mayor is black, but they are actually interchangeable anyhow.

  • Barton February 13, 2014, 8:53 am

The Mobile Al mayor Sam Jones has been ousted and we now have an outdoorsman for mayor

  • Evan February 13, 2014, 7:49 am

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that the mayor of Philadelphia is on that list…

  • Onedee Tentee February 13, 2014, 7:36 am

i printed the list out to PDF. For the GA crew-I recommend you do the same for future reference.

  • Ron February 13, 2014, 7:09 am

Here in Butler PA we crossed one off the list! Ask Margaret Stock and see how joining Bloomberg’s list worked out for her. This was one of in not the major topic of the election.

  • Austin Fox February 13, 2014, 7:02 am

The link worked fine. The problem with archived data is that it is not current. The mayor listed for my city lost his job last November. There is no guarantee that MAIG maintained an accurate list in the first place. Folks should verify any information before embarking on their own campaigns.

  • John February 13, 2014, 5:40 am

I, too, am a Mayor. However, unlike Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Mayor John C. Tkazyik, I was not foolish enough to ever consider joining such an anti-American organization as the MAIG. If we don’t push back, we will have deserved what we are about to receive.

I would be interested, however, in helping to organize a Mayor’s For Gun Ownership (MFGO) or MECAP (Mayor’s Endorsing Constitutionally Applied Principles). MIFA (Mayor’s in favor of America), or CEMA Constitution Endorsing Mayor’s of America. Mayor’s for the Reformation of America (MRA), or MERA Mayor’s Endorsing the Reformation of America. How about (MACA) Mayor’s Against Corruption in America?

Constitutional Mayor’s Association (CMA), or Mayor’s for a Constitutional America (MCA).

Personally, I like the last one. I am a Constitutional Mayor. It sounds as though Mayor Tkazyik might now be as well. Just let me know. I’ll be the first to sign up.

  • Scott February 13, 2014, 3:42 am

I was somewhat happy to see only six Texas mayors on the list, and I mailed each and every one of them to express my disgust with their decisions. The worst one, the mayor of Houston Texas, it is shameful to see his name on the list after Houston just reaped the benefits of having the annual NRA convention there.

  • PatrickB February 11, 2014, 8:43 pm

Neither sets of long or short links in the article worked for me. Here is the link that does work.

Thank you for the link, just found my mayor is a member. Going to ask some questions!!!
