Fightlite Industries, formerly Ares Defense Systems, just announced a pistol version of their “featureless” SCR rifle. The SCR is a traditional rifle receiver that works with standard AR-15-pattern uppers.
The new SCR Raider pistol uses a modified Raptor shotgun pistol grip with an action spring tube installed for the recoil assembly. Unlike an AR, which uses a buffer system, the SCR uses a short bolt carrier with a tang that hinges into the pistol grip.
And while the bolt carrier is proprietary, the bolt isn’t. And the whole system uses the same direct impingement system as standard ARs. You really can use just about any upper receiver with SCR lowers.
Fightlite is opening with two Raider pistols, one in .223 Remington/5.56 NATO and the other in 300 AAC Blackout. They will also sell Raider pistol lowers separately to shooters looking to make their own style guns.

Priced at $865 for the complete pistols the Raider is competitive with other niche designs. Raider lowers have a $575 MSRP. Like with most guns the MSRP is suggested and real-world prices ought to be lower.
The Raider comes with a 7.25-inch barrel in both calibers and sports a mean-looking muzzle brake that’s sure to throw some major fireballs in 5.56. In 300 BLK the Raider is a lot more serious, using a cartridge made for short-barreled guns.
Altogether the Raider measures in at just over 20 inches long and weighs just under 4 pounds unloaded. While the Raider’s main appeal is as a range toy it works as a solid kit gun for backpackers and a nice little truck gun, too.

The uppers come with a free-floating modular handguard with what looks like a forward quick-detach sling swivel. The pistol grips sport another sling point on the butt of the recoil assembly.
Complete Raiders are optics-ready, which means you have to add sights or an optic if aiming is a priority. With a red dot or long eye-relief scope, the pistol can go from the range to the field in a pinch.
Realistically you don’t need to have a reason to want a Raider pistol. Like the original SCR rifle it has an appeal on its own. These light, AR-compatible guns have a best of both worlds feel to them. They bringing the traditional and tactical together in one package.

So do all the commenters think AR pistols with arm braces are stupid as well? This is a far more practical alternative for somebody who has to have an AR compatible, 5.56 pistol then some of those ungainly chop jobs purporting to be pistols.
The CRC Raider is exactly what you need to shoot your other hand, arm, foot, leg, partner, etc. It’s not as safe as a rifle, and it’s not for the untrained.
