Gun-control activists around the country are rejoicing today at the inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Many believe that with these two at the helm of our nation the Second Amendment will be transmogrified from an individual right guaranteed by the Constitution to a limited privilege for a select few. Mainly, those in law enforcement and government.
“President Biden and Vice President Harris have put together the strongest gun safety administration in American history, and we are all safer now that they are officially in office,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety in a statement obtained by GunsAmerica.
“Everytown is grateful to count both of them as longtime allies, and we will do everything in our power to help them enact the common-sense gun safety policies the American people are demanding,” Feinblatt continued.
Biden and Harris have promised to push for all of the following:
- A sweeping ban on so-called “assault weapons”
- Criminalizing private transfers
- Enacting confiscatory red flag laws
- Terminating the PLCAA, which protects the gun industry from frivolous lawsuits
- Prohibiting the sale of gun parts and 80 percent lower receivers
“America is facing an array of crises, including COVID-19, gun violence, and extremism. Fortunately, President Biden is eminently qualified to address them simultaneously,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action.

Hogg took a moment on Twitter to fire some parting shots at former president Donald Trump and the National Rifle Association.

It goes without saying but none of the aforementioned proposals will “end gun violence in America.” Take for instance the ban on black rifles they are proposing. In 2019, less than 4 percent of murders (364) were committed with rifles of any make or model, according to FBI crime data.
Categorically speaking, more people were killed with blunt objects (397), personal weapons, i.e. hands, fists, feet, etc. (600) and cutting instruments (1,476) that year. Banning the possession of a sub-category of rifles rarely used by violent criminals will likely have zero effect on crime.
Study after study and criminologist after criminologist have admitted as much. Even a Bloomberg-funded study from last year acknowledged that prohibitions on modern sporting rifles do not stop “incidence of fatal mass shootings.”
Which suggests that the true intent of a ban on black rifles isn’t to curb violence, it’s to disarm millions of law-abiding citizens. Same can be said with respect to the rest of the measures listed. The goal is disarmament, not making “American families safer.”
In a sick twist of irony, the opposite is actually true. Those policies endanger American families. Because each new gun regulation passed works to ensure Americans are less equipped to defend themselves and their loved ones from those who wish to do them harm.
The next four years are going to be interesting, to say the least. Let us hope we survive with our 2A rights intact.
