Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump addressed the on-air shooting of two journalists Wednesday morning, both iterating their respective positions on laws that would restrict the Second Amendment.

“This isn’t a gun problem, this is a mental problem,” said Trump, the GOP frontrunner in an interview with CNN on Thursday. “It’s not a question of the laws, it’s really the people.”

Trump said that the gunman, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday evening, should have been examined for his erratic behaviors.

“In the old days they had mental institutions for people like this because he was really, definitely borderline and definitely would have been and should have been institutionalized,” said Trump. “At some point somebody should have seen that, I mean the people close to him should have seen it.”

Asked about whether gun control was the answer to prevent future attacks, Trump touted his belief that when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.

“You need protection,” he added.

Meanwhile, Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton called for tougher gun laws.

“We have got to do something about gun violence in America — and I will take it on,” Clinton said Wednesday while on the campaign trail in Iowa.

“It is a very political, difficult issue in America,” she said. “But I believe we are smart enough, we are compassionate enough to figure out how to balance the legitimate Second Amendment rights with preventive measures and control measures so that whatever motivated this murderer, who eventually took his own life — we will not see more deaths, needless, senseless deaths.”

Clinton vowed not to “let another terrible incident go by without trying to do something more to prevent this incredible killing that is stalking our country and we’ve had so many terrible instances of it in the last two years.”

“It happens every day and there is so much evidence that if guns were not so readily available, if we had universal background checks, if we could put some timeout between the person who is upset because he got fired or the domestic abuse or whatever other motivation may be working on someone who does this — that maybe we could prevent this kind of carnage,” said Clinton.

Really I mean in reality what is a background gonna prevent?? Really
That’s not gonna stop nothing I mean you can have a perfect law abiding citizen by a gun pass there dumb so-called “background check” and pass with flying colors because there is no background to prove nothing! Now let’s say this person gets into some kind of anger motivation for wrongful termination now he’s faced with a mortgage,w ife kids bills, etc etc… and he losses it because he just lost everything and he goes back to get some pay back for that wrongful termination and kills a few people! Now did that background check help for anything did it stop the shooting no I didn’t do nothing because it proved nothing.. I don’t side with trump on a lot of things but I will agree with him on that point he made. The guns aren’t the problem it’s the person that needs to be checked out on. Because last I checked my gun doesn’t move from my safe unless I choose to pick it up.. but the way this country is going all of normal background passing citizens might lose it to because it’s getting ridiculous with loss of jobs and a crappy economy! What the U.S should do and worry about is instead of being the nosy prick bully watching everybody in the world on if they use the bathroom or not or sending relief to other countries and feeding them they should worry about there own people and address our homeless, our poverty, our vets they send out as guinea pigs for them personal agendas.. maybe we wouldn’t have all these people losing it because everyone is getting pushed to the edge day in and day out till they lose it.. but there real just trying to scape goat disarming us to have us fully under control it’s the “Agenda” remember!! I am perfectly fine with background checks, but when it come to banning weapons and magazines I draw the line.
