Dems Butthurt Over Rule Change that Would End Sit-Ins on House Floor

in Authors, Current Events, S.H. Blannelberry

Remember that dog and pony show earlier this year when Democrats staged a sit-in on the House floor to protest the lower chamber’s refusal to vote on pointless and ineffective gun-control legislation?

Well, those types of foolish stunts will no longer be permitted if House Speaker Paul Ryan has his way.

Last week, Ryan put forth a resolution that would whack disruptors and agitators of House proceedings with fines and potential ethics violations.

Under the new proposal, those lawmakers who use electronic devices for still photography, audio or visual recording, or broadcasting on the House floor will face a fine of $500 for a first offense. Subsequent offenses will carry a fine of $2,500.

“These changes will help ensure that order and decorum are preserved in the House of Representatives so lawmakers can do the people’s work,” AshLee Strong, a spokesman for Ryan, said in an e-mailed statement to Bloomberg News.

Looks like if lawmakers want to hold a pity party on the House floor and broadcast it on social media, it’s going to come with a real cost — as it should.

Naturally, Dems were butthurt by Ryan’s attempt to lay down the law and put an end to the nonsense.

“Sadly, the first action of the new Congress will be the passage of rules changes targeting Democratic Members who participated in the 25-hour sit-in following the horrific Pulse shooting in Orlando that killed 49 and wounded more than 50,” said Drew Hammill, spokesman for Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, in a statement.

“House Republicans continue to act as the handmaidens of the gun lobby refusing to pass sensible, bipartisan legislation to expand background checks and keep guns out of the hands of terrorists,” Hammill continued.

At the end of the day, lawmakers are public servants voted into office to do a job. When they fail to do their job (like protect and defend the Constitution) or they contravene Congressional protocols and procedures to prevent others from doing their job, they should face a stiff penalty. Viewed in this light, Ryan’s proposal is nothing more than a sensible response to Democratic shenanigans.

Paul Ryan needs to go.He is a POS

  • Fred Dietz December 22, 2017, 12:36 pm

When the RICO and sedition indictments start coming down and the Democrat roaches in FBI, DOJ, CIA, NSA, and Obasturd’s regime start getting perp walked the libtards will riot and burn their own neighborhoods as usual, so get ready to laugh till it hurts.

  • Robert December 31, 2016, 6:15 pm

Well, at least the statement that a prohibition on infantile behavior in the House chamber is “targeting Democratic Members” is an open acknowledgment that the shoe fits.

  • jerry smith December 30, 2016, 2:40 pm

OH, WOW! A $500 dollar fine! Yes, that will put a stop to people (mostly millionaires) who make $175K a year from breaking the rules. Puke Ryon is our savior! With strong leadership like this he will soon have the Dims whipped into shape. SMH! If this damn RINO was serious, the damn fine would be 10% of their yearly pay for the 1st offence and 25% for every recurrence. That would get the Dims attention, because everyone knows how the Dims hate to spend their own money.

  • Larry December 30, 2016, 11:24 am

We could eliminate all this by simply electing ADULTS & not foolish little children.

    • jerry smith December 30, 2016, 2:45 pm

Tell that to all the full grown children who are still pitching a tantrum because their candidate lost. Children will only vote for other children.

      • Jerry December 30, 2016, 7:42 pm

“Children will only vote for other children.” You just defined the election of Trump…

        • MagnumOpUS December 31, 2016, 1:50 am

So, Jerry, tell us about some of your accomplishments. Or might there be a book in which they are detailed??

You ooze class envy. I feel sorry for you because I think you have passed your prime and have nothing to show for your miserable life.

          😉

    • Jerry December 30, 2016, 3:16 pm

Too late Larry, you voted in Trump. Emotional maturity of a 3rd grader in the body of a 70 year old man. My favorite Trump quotes…”Nany nany boo boo” and “I know you are, but what am I”.

      • Steve December 30, 2016, 5:56 pm

That last post was just weird

      • MikeB December 31, 2016, 11:31 pm

My personal favorite was watching a grown woman barking at the moon.

  • JoshO December 30, 2016, 11:21 am

Personally, I think any legislator that demonstrates contempt for the Constitution by advocating and voting for legislation that contradicts it should be tried for treason and found to be in violation of their sworn oath. A $500 fine? How about a blind fold and a last cigarette.

    • KMacK December 31, 2016, 2:57 pm

Better idea: Removal from office on conviction with prejudice (i.e. they could never be elected to public office again). Further, they cannot be tried for Treason. Treason is specifically described in the Constitution and being a stupid retro-hippy isn’t it. What they could be charged with is: Malfeasance in Office, Inducement to illegal actions in others, Interference with the business of Congress, and simple Trespassing (they may be Elected to office but the Capitol is the property of the Federal Government, not the Senate or the House of Representatives). Additionally, on conviction they lose their “retirement benefits” and “healthcare beneifits.
Now, being barred from returning to office, they would be forced to earn a living somehow and live within their means. For most of them, that would be worse than being executed, lots worse.

      • DRAINO January 6, 2017, 8:33 am

Those retirement and healthcare benefits need to be voted on by the people after their term is complete. If they didn’t represent the people, then the people have a check and balance. This would incentivize better representation and improve public service.

I think it’s kind of funny that these guys call themselves democrats. They maybe are democrats indeed but they want democracy and all of its freedoms only for themselves. A real democrat would accept and certainly has to accept the decisions of the majority of the people, the senate, the supreme court and/or whoever else might have the power in a democratic system. Trying to force something to be done how they want it by childish stubbornness is nothing more than a behavior, that we would expect from people who support dictatorships instead of democracies.

Same went with the anti-Trump civil wars on the streets the USA had to bear in November. These people voted for Hillary because they like the “democrats”, yet as soon as they don’t win because the majority decides in a democracy, they declare martial law for themselves and destroy everything that democracy is all about.

I guess all these people should be sent to school, in which they would have to study all about democracy. Maybe then they would see how stupid things like a sit-in really are. It’s good to see that the House Floor is taking action against that. Believe me, this is not just against stupid sit-ins on the house floor. This is an important step to build a real democracy, by stopping undemocratic behavior to succeed.

  • Lewigi December 30, 2016, 10:43 am

I think Republicans are making a mistake. The public needs to see the foolishness and unruliness that is the Democratic Party. I thinks scenes such as the sit in are what helped sink the Democratic ship.

    • JoshO December 30, 2016, 11:24 am

You may be right. I think the irony of a “civil rights style sit in” taking place to advocate the infringement of a civil right was an irony that nauseated some people on the fence.

  • singleshotcajun December 30, 2016, 10:28 am

Shelia jackson Lee is not amused 🙂

    • Larry December 30, 2016, 11:26 am

But she is amusing in a sad, stupid, nincompoop sort of way! Happy New Year, Cajun!

  • Bob S December 30, 2016, 9:59 am

I agree with Ryan’s proposal but would like more severe censorship than the fines proposed.
Like enforcement of Title 18, U.S.C., Section 241 Conspiracy Against Rights

  • Frank December 30, 2016, 8:41 am

Prove to me that gun control “keeps firearms out of the hands of terrorist” (and criminals) and I’ll be all in!
It’s been proven time and again, “outlaw guns, and only outlaws will have guns”. Reducing the number of legal guns has little to no effect on the number of illegal guns. Even in countries that do have strict gun control there are plenty of criminals and terrorists with guns.

  • mach37 December 30, 2016, 4:38 am

Peaceful demonstrations are one thing – noisy demonstrations that disrupt conduct of businesses, and that block public passage on sidewalks, streets and highways must be prohibited.

  • DRAINO December 29, 2016, 5:25 pm

Get Butthurt, while your getting bent!!!! We have put up with your crap for the last 8 years without riots or so much as a day off from class from being so distraught that a panzy libtard got elected……twice. The country has had enough of your Demo-Crap…..and a different choice was elected this time.. DEAL WITH IT!!!!! Freaking BABIES!!! Get over yourselves, and grow up. Life doesn’t revolve around you.

    • DRAINO December 29, 2016, 5:31 pm

      …And oh yeah….
      AMERICANISM!!!! NOT Globalism!!!!!!!!

  • taxx73 December 28, 2016, 4:34 pm

Sounds like we\’re finally going to get some common sense politician control! Something we\’ve needed for many years. I would also recommend that after 5 violations the offenders should be removed from office and a special election held to replace them. Maybe if there was more liabilities in screwing your constituents politicians would actually do their jobs.
    LEAVE OUR RIGHTS ALONE!!!!!!

    • DRAINO December 29, 2016, 9:07 am

Ya’ll are way too easy on the Libtards! Hit them where it hurts and HOW it hurts. $2,500 for the first offense, $10,000 for the second, and third, you are removed from your position…..and the STATE you represent foots the bill. That way they will think twice about the morons Democrats they elect. Fines should be a deterrent…..not a membership fee.

      AMERICANISM!!!! NOT Globalism!!!!

  • Chief Slowroller December 28, 2016, 1:00 pm

the Trump Zombies are marching forward

    • Jonathan Speegle December 28, 2016, 2:29 pm

Chief you do realize the Democrats got rid of the fillibuster in the Senate, so it’s only fair for an even playing field in the house. Their sit in earlier this year did not honor the victims of the pulse shooting. It did nothing to further any bipartisan bill regarding the issue. It was a sensationalized fools’ errand. They can’t get a budget passed on schedule and still yahoo’s have time to spend making a mockery of all those they represent. If anything they publicized the exact reasons they were elected out of congressional majority.

      • SGT-N December 30, 2016, 7:04 am

        Amen!

        • Jerry December 30, 2016, 7:21 am

The Senate did not end the filibuster last year, it ended the ability to filibuster certain but not all Judiciary appointment approvals.

          • Joe McHugh December 30, 2016, 7:06 pm

Jerry, I’m glad that you brought that fact up. Thanks to the Democrats, the Republicans can end the filibuster with a Harry Reid type rules change for each, and every Senate vote on anything that the Democrats hate. Use the Harry Reid “nuclear option” on the Democrats until they are shell shocked into silence for at least two more years. What goes around, comes around. Bless the Democrats for showing the Republicans the way to bring about an efficient operation in the Senate.

    • Ed December 30, 2016, 8:09 am

At least the Trump zombies march forward. The Libtard zombies just sit and whine!

    • Steve December 30, 2016, 6:06 pm

Not trump zombies only looking out for our rights Hillbag is insane and wants to impose her personal beliefs on others not in touch with all the people just some
