Overview
I am much relieved this year at SHOT Show to find out we can all stop dressing in 5.11 pants and carrying bag packs that look like they came off the set of 24. It’s still tactical, but casual like I’m an off duty ninja. Makes sense, right? Innovation from the tactical companies has been all shit that looked tactical, so if you wanted to fly incognito, you bought your stuff at REI. Vertx has been the first to step up and fix this problem, starting with a new line of bags this year.
Gone are the tactical colors, and in their place common-sense alternatives. Khaki and orange. Forest Green. Navy Blue. Colors real human beings wear. Colors that hide in plain sight, and are close enough to hide in the woods, too. There is still a little problem of brand logo, but that is easy to fix with a sewn-on cover up. And if the market keeps going this way, that stuff is likely to cease, too. Even if it doesn’t, it only advertises the true nature of your kit to other people that know what Vertx is.
Impression
The biggest innovation I saw from Vertx wasn’t even in the bags, it was the new “luggage tag.” This is a big rubberized zipper handle, that doubles as a luggage tag, but is actually useful for ripping open a suit bag in a hurry, which has a hidden compartment for a rifle. Brilliant. The new stuff does look like actual civilian standard luggage, but it was built to hold all manner of hardware. This is one you have to try to believe, but I recommend you do.

?? I’m looking at their web site, and I don’t see anything except the typical tactical I’m-an-off-duty-SWAT-guy-look-at-me pants like 5.11 and everyone else offers…
Check out their Delta Stretch Pants…best “low profile” pants I’ve tried. And they don’t look like shoot me pants.
