In case you have missed the memo, which I highly doubt, the world is on fire right now. In my opinion as a former Intelligence Analyst, this looks an awful lot like an attempted “color revolution.” This one may be the full monty, or it may be a dress rehearsal for November. I don’t buy for a second this is an organic protest. Someone is pulling the strings, which we can infer from the fact that the protests are worldwide.
The scariest part of this isn’t the popularity or destruction. It is the fact that the government we pay to protect us, has largely decided to sit this one out. While our cities are quite literally on fire, we hear over and over again decisions to pull police back. “Give them space to protest.” Or a decision to just not prosecute anyone. That last bit has probably been the most shocking. How do you encourage bad behavior? As any parent knows, refuse to punish it.
So while murder rates are skyrocketing, businesses that survived the Corona are being looted, and even the guard post to the White House was burned, we have basically been told we are on our own. Peachy. Sounds fantastic. Perhaps the only silver lining to any of this is that the gun control debate is not just dead, it’s buried at sea wrapped in anchor chains and anvils.
As a man with capability, I refuse to just stand by and watch this happen. The real strength of Special Forces is our ability to make an army, wherever we go. While that is usually done in person, it can also be done by written means. Very fortunately for me, I started writing a book about how to organize and survive in urban environments last year. Based roughly around these columns here on GunsAmerica, which were my most read ever:
Clay’s Guide to Urban Defense
- Series Introduction
- Ep. 1 Rifles
- Ep. 2 Other Things That Go Bang
- Ep. 3 Ammo: The Amount You’ll Actually Need
- Ep. 4 Hardening the Home
- Ep. 5 Surviving In A Concrete Jungle
- Ep. 6 Escape from NY
Not long after, I started expanding those columns into a book. In the first 10 years of the GWOT, many of us veterans got a Masters Degree in Urban Warfare. We have had to fight in a dangerous, unique environment since day one. And all of those lessons have application if you live in a Concrete Jungle.
So I am happy this week to have published “Concrete Jungle: A Green Beret’s Guide to Urban Survival.” This was what I could do, on short notice, to help the people now abandoned by the alleged peacekeepers of modern cities. It is down and dirty, without an ounce of fluff. The guide is designed to help those with no experience start from nothing. But it also has ideas on organization and structure, as well as tactics, that even our GunsAmerica audience will find helpful. Sections on arming and equipping may be laughable to our long time audience, but are designed to help the new guys. And keep you from answering a million questions from those you are trying to help.
We are all in this together, as law and order crumble. The smartest thing we can do is defend where we can and organize for the future. I am of the opinion that the genie can’t be put back in the bottle, and this is going to get a whole lot worse.
Pick up your copy of Clay’s new book: “Concrete Jungle: A Green Beret’s Guide to Urban Survival.”
Just finished all 3 of your books this past month…well done…and the Doc refers to the familiar one in the field…
Clay, I ordered three of these books (Concrete Jungle) for self and friends weeks ago. Amazon has NOT delivered and maybe that’s intentional. They say a USPS shipping label was created but it’s stayed the same for weeks. Clay, if others are experiencing this, PROBLEM. We need an alternate purchase source. Thanks.
I read all the GA articles and shared them with my family and friends. Just bought he book too. Thanks Clay!
Intel analyst? Clay’s claims to fame continue to grow.
Hey Clay last I heard you had some awful stuff and were really sick !! You well? Better? Wishing well man…..
Having dealt with three mass social disorder events that included rioting and looting in two imploding foreign counties years ago and before the age of cell phone cameras… all one needs is an AK or an AR and a couple of high capacity 9’s.. one rifle and one pistol for each capable family member. Same rifle and pistol type for each so you can swap ammo and magazines. Back then it was AK’s and Browning HP’s. Today I would choose a good 5.56 AR’s and Glock 17’s for home or business defenders.
If you’re easy pickings its your fault.
Looters are by nature an untrained group and easily discouraged by seeing a couple of their group go down with bullet wounds.
Professional guerrillas and criminals require a bit more… but Claymores are illegal and unobtainable in the US.
Overseas in the 70’s and 80’s you could purchase Chinese Claymores for 250 bucks a piece. Great for home protection of large estates in Latin America and in the Middle East.
Choosing the right fire arm is critical to the task, Clay has covered it here a couple of times. I remember hearing a story from 45 years ago about French mercenaries hired to retake a small island nation, the weapons they chose seemed odd to me, Winchester 458 bolt action rifles, 10 gauge sawed off goose guns loaded with buck, 44 mag revolvers, all purchased from Harrods. The thought was anyone seeing someone shot with an Elephant gun wouldn’t stick around to see if they could get some as well, apparently it worked.
Clay, love the Kindle preview of your ‘Concrete Jungle’, and have ordered a paper back version. I am a Vet and have some knowledge of the acronyms used but by page 3 I was getting lost. After a review of my ordered book I hope to purchase 6 more copies for my increasingly nervous urban relatives. All are neophytes to this train of thought but have suddenly become hungry for your shared thoughts. All lead full lives and I am afraid the the forest of acronyms will limit their absorption of the material you have put out. Your thoughts?
Counterpoint: instead of preparing/hoping for the boogaloo or whatever you call it, admit there is a deep, ingrained racial problem in this country and work to overcome it.
You don’t get a free pass because we had 1 black president. After all, after Obama, the country elected an overt racist.
Your contention of a racial problem in America is comical. I don’t know a single racist. I was personally raised that it doesn’t matter WHAT you are, but WHO you are. That sums up the attitude of everyone I know. That said, the looters and rioters are people who have proven they don’t deserve respect by engaging in destructive, hateful behavior. Oh, and BTW, Trump is not a racist. He expects all Americans to love America. If you’re not one of those, I suggest you might be happier as a Venezuelan or something.
“because we had one black president”
Hate to break it to you counterpoint but we haven’t had a black president yet, Obama was half black
The main ingredient and basis to be a survivor and a warrior is your mindset. Without that correctly acquired and applied you cannot accomplish the necessary fitness, mentally or physically or be able do diddly squat. I have seen some of this fellows work and he is not fit at all, so just being a supposed special forces kind of guy does not mean you have many if any answers. It just means anybody can fool greater fools.
The real problem we all face is that the vast majority of supposed conservatives are fat asses and could not fight their way out of a wet paper bag. But they talk a good game and rush to many various supposed gurus that actually have few if any real answers. In other words many are living in fantasy and will never actually take any proactive steps to become a warrior. Just more pretend junk that makes them feel good momentarily and reinforce their own illusions. So of course nothng much ever changes except ever more illusions created. It takes some effort and serious work to gain the necessary mindset and it is never a freebie or just reading any book. It is all about training and your own personal first hand experiences in that training. It does help to have some real world first hand life experiences in such events. But much of that cannot be taught except by living it first hand. We are exactly what we think and live. Let that sink in and get off the couch and actually accomplish something worth while !
Spot-on analysis, Clay. Nobody knows the future but “Be Prepared” has never been more important. Just ordered 3 copies. Time to Cowboy up!
Just bought it, looking forward to a great read. Thanks for all your work here at gunsamerica and thank you for your service, marine.
Just ordered. Like your work, btw.
Just finished. And, yes, living in the bay area, a boat is my go-to for getting home but it’s still a long walk from Martinez! Beats walking over the Bay Bridge.
What I took the most from this is people need to get networked. Fill the spots you’ll need. And don’t forget about fires!
I bought a 650 gallon water tank ($350) and my wife’s friends think I’m nuts… (same people who wanted to borrow a gun last week) and it doesn’t rain here for four months in a row. Won’t last long with 4 people and a dog.
A lot here is stuff I already know but the nuggets were new ways to think about the problems a’coming.
I would 100% recommend this to someone who’s just come to the conclusion that THEY are Ft. Apache, no one is coming to save them once it flies apart. Hopefully this will open eyes. Great luck, everyone.
Like a lot a people I watched video of the riots. What caught my eye was a couple of apparently x-military guys, The one x-marine walks thru the rioters and retrieves a second AR stolen from a police car he would have been justified in shooting both Antifa thieves, the second one appears to be a teenage girl, the next guy is forced down a street pursued by rioters that then start beating his car and then a big guy starts beating him thru the open drivers widow, he fires a single shot hitting the big guy in the arm and then exits the vehicle, he obviously has moved thru a hostile crowd before. In both cases these guys gave it what was needed and nothing more and both showed incredible situational awareness
