Comer Subpoenas Biden-Harris Admin Over Alleged Collusion with Anti-2A Groups

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) issued subpoenas this week to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.

Comer claims the administration has refused to hand over requested records related to possible collaboration between the Biden-Harris administration and anti-Second Amendment groups in a lawsuit against firearm manufacturers.

Comer’s move follows concerns raised about the administration’s involvement in the case City of Chicago v. Glock et al.

According to Comer, a whistleblower revealed that the White House’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention met privately with Glock representatives on December 20, 2023.

Comer expressed concern over these meetings, stating, “Plaintiff’s counsel has publicly shared details of a private meeting that your office had with Glock, Inc., the defendant in the lawsuit, which raises serious concerns about whether you or your staff abused the authority of your office and committed ethical violations by colluding with outside parties to initiate a lawsuit against a politically disfavored private entity.”

Comer previously requested records from both the White House Office on Gun Violence Prevention and the ATF in June 2024.

These requests aimed to uncover details of communications between Glock and White House officials. However, the Committee claims it has not received any of the requested documents.

Comer also pointed to daily communication between White House Deputy Director Rob Wilcox and outside groups, which was revealed by a whistleblower.

Comer’s letter to ATF Director Steven Dettelbach stated, “The Committee previously wrote to you requesting communications between you and Mr. Wilcox to determine whether these communications have been improperly used to coordinate and share information with plaintiff’s counsel.”

The subpoenas demand a range of documents, including communications between the White House and anti-gun groups like Everytown for Gun Safety, as well as messages related to devices like “Glock switches” and “auto sears.”

The ATF is also required to hand over encrypted messages and call logs between officials and these groups.

Comer’s push reflects broader concerns among pro-2A advocates about government collusion with groups aiming to restrict gun rights.

“The White House already ignored requests to voluntarily provide this information to the House Oversight Committee. This office – led by Vice President Harris, the administration’s ‘gun control czar’ – appears to have manifested the firearm industry’s deepest concerns that it was never formed to improve community safety,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

“Rather, it appears this office is a taxpayer-funded effort to do the bidding of radical, special interest groups to weaponize the courts through ‘lawfare’ and advance an agenda to deprive Americans of their Second Amendment rights, guaranteed by the Constitution,” Keane added. “NSSF urges The White House to comply with the subpoenas and provide the information to Chairman James Comer.”

The subpoenas set the stage for further scrutiny into whether the Biden-Harris administration has played a direct role in shaping duplicitous efforts against firearm manufacturers.
