Century Arms crushed it out of the park a few years ago with the introduction of the Draco, an eminently affordable AK-style pistol. It featured all the ergonomic wonder of a Kalashnikov in an ultra-compact package. The Draco was an instant hit.
New for 2018 is the Draco NAK9, which is cut from the same cloth as the original only the NAK9 is chambered in 9mm. That makes it easier to control and cheaper to feed.
Specs
- Made in Romania
- 14x1mm LH thread
- Stamped receiver
- Accepts Glock 17 and 19 mags.
- Picatinny optics rail on top of the dust cover
- Rear sling mount
- Compatibility with AKM handguard
- Comes with one 33 rd. mag.
This is a wild step for Century. AR-pattern pistols stepped down to 9mm have been flying off shelves, so it makes sense that the AK masters would follow suit. The result is a blend of old and new.
The NAK9 looks AK and takes AKM handguards, complete with standard AK-style sights. Of note, the NAK9 retains a standard AK 14x1mm LH thread pitch on the muzzle. Don’t try your 7.62 can or muzzle devices, please.

Up top, the NAK9 sports a Picatinny rail, so you can put on a red dot or your optic of choice. Most importantly, for the modern world, the gun runs on Glock magazines.
Glock magazines have become the default setting for 9mm carbines, with good reason. They work, and there are lots of them. It must’ve taken some doing to get an AK to run them. But Century has done it. Yes, what we have on our hands with the NAK9 is another smash hit.
Pricing
MSRP for the Draco NAK9 is $724.99. But I’ve seen listings on GunsAmerica for $675. Already sold out to distributors for Q1, might want to buy one if you see one.

What a bunch of douche comments.
Who cares how Clay dresses or it he needs a haircut? The 9mm Draco is pretty cool.
Now the skinny jean wearing, coiffed commenters can retreat to their safe spaces in Mom’s basement with their espresso makers their $2500 AR’s.
This is my second attempt to post a comment that was previously not posted by Clay or one of his colleagues.
Take a writing course or two and learn about syntax and spelling. I cannot be the only one tired of trying to unravel the content of your pieces.
Additionally, abandon the gangster crap. In case you haven’t noticed no one seems to appreciate the references. In one of your articles you commented on about how a police department might want to gangster up a weapon. I believe it was a rifle you were referencing. I am former law enforcement and I can state that I don’t believe there is a police department that wants to be referenced with the noun “gangster”. I suspect you were attempting to be clever or funny. You failed.
Try emulating the presence of those you interview. You have virtually nothing to lose.
I am certain you will not post this. That is not a challenge just a strong prediction. But what the hell, at least you read it.
Clay,
You look like the guy that asked us for beer money in the parking garage at SHOT.
The latest addition to every street thugs wish list. The anti gun crowd loves these things.
Who cares what the anti- constitution weirdos say. They complain about anything. It’s a new use for an AK type design. Hope they make money with it. But ya Clay needs a clean and brush-up
I’m with you Mr. Harvey; He needs to get a haircut and present himself like a businessman instead of a ruffian!
Why not just buy a 9mm Glock pistol? BTW take a shower and get a haircut you look like a greasy Yiddish bum.
Clay……….get a hair cut or at least groom what you have. You want to represent the shooting crowd or look like a slob unkept and dirty ?
Clay is more concerned with lookn’ gangster, right Clay? You’re always referencing that “gangster” crap. Why don’t you forego the charade and be one. You already look like one. While you’re at it, take a writing course or two and learn a skill relevant to your position. I am certain I am not the only one tired of trying to make sense of your pieces.
As Col. Cooper would say, “An ingenious solution to a non existent problem.”
Agreed. Century Arms basically crippled a Kalashnikov action by making it into a 9mm pistol. The market’s full of 9mm carbines and pistols, almost all of which have a lower parts count and are lighter than this weapon.
What, precisely, does the owner of one of these get that he couldn’t from existing 9mm carbines or pistols?
Proven performance? Noooooo. Easy maintenance? I wouldn’t bet on it. Increased lethality? Uh-uh.
If you’re going to make a Kalashnikov pistol, make one that takes advantage of the added weight. Chamber it in 10mm, where that weight could make the weapon more accurate and controllable, allow you to transfer more useful momentum to what you’re trying to kill and hopefully make a weapon more capable of taking the chamber pressure of the round than a conventional pistol. There are even Glock magazines in that caliber, and in .40 S&W (there’s less gain in chambering an AK for that round, but it still makes more sense than 9mm).
And how is this any different then the Chiappa PAK9? Oh yea, this is $625……vs PAK9 at $450. Good to seeso many people into the sub-Pistols as I call em\’, they are too fun!
G.
I have one as well and it is far shorter and less expensive, and can take Berretta M9 mags too.
These are tough guns from Chiappa.
No new thing here.
I have a PSA AR-9 carbine that runs very well on colt style 32 rd mags.
Glock mags are used in carbines becy because they are popular, not because they work well. Which they don’t. In ar 15 platforms, getting the bolt to stay rearward with glock mags is a huge challenge because the springs are weak and the plastic mags flex and have lots of dimensional variability.
Buy yourself some real factory Glock mags. Not Magpul or some Korean crap. Every complaint I have ever heard about Glock mags comes from people who have never used them OR use aftermarket crap mags.
If your carbine doesn’t hold the bolt open with a Glock mag, you’re doing something wrong.
Right the @#$% on!
You two glock head don’t know jack shit. The mags suck for keeping the ar bolt catch working. Ask Wilson vimbst or jp enterprises and another maker of ar with bolt catches that use glock mags . Your brand loyal and talking out your asses.
