The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) has strongly criticized President Joe Biden’s response to Monday’s tragic school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin.
The group accused Biden of exploiting the tragedy to push a gun control agenda that is irrelevant to the incident.
Biden’s Response and CCRKBA’s Rebuttal
In his statement from the White House, Biden renewed calls for universal background checks and a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and “high-capacity magazines.” CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb called these demands misplaced and disconnected from the facts of the case.
“Joe Biden knows 15-year-olds can’t legally buy handguns anywhere in this country,” Gottlieb said. “So a call for background checks is irrelevant. Police have recovered a handgun which was used in the shooting, so calling for a ban on semiautomatic rifles and their magazines is also irrelevant and dishonest. Indeed, such demands underscore just how irrelevant Joe Biden and his gun ban agenda have become.”
Gottlieb further criticized Biden for failing to address the lack of an armed school resource officer on the scene, which might have offered a layer of protection for the students and staff.
The Broader Argument
While acknowledging the horror of the incident, Gottlieb rejected efforts to blame law-abiding gun owners or restrict their constitutional rights.
“Biden, and his fellow gun prohibitionists all know the incident in Madison would not have been prevented, even if all of the laws he now wants passed had already been in effect,” Gottlieb stated.

Instead, CCRKBA advocates for “rational preventive measures”, such as placing armed resource officers in schools and improving mental health counseling.
Gottlieb called for a shift away from “specious sound-bite suggestions” and urged cooler heads to prevail.
Looking Ahead
With Biden’s term nearing its end, CCRKBA expressed optimism for working with the next administration on what it described as “intelligent solutions” to prevent future tragedies.
Gottlieb stressed the need to focus on policies that target perpetrators rather than law-abiding citizens exercising their Second Amendment rights.
The shooting at the Madison school remains under investigation, but CCRKBA’s response highlights the folly of politicians pushing for sweeping firearm restrictions in the wake of such events.
