ArmaLite AR-50A1 National Match

ArmaLite Inc. https://www.armalite.com/ If something ain’t broke there is a strong argument to not fix it. Fortunately for .50 Caliber match shooters though, the team at ArmaLite must have played hooky the day they learned that in 2nd grade. Even though their ArmaLite AR-50 has already been a strong competitor in national matches, they decided [...]

Remington® VERSA MAX™ – the New Pinnacle of Autoloading Shotguns Any Load, Any Where, Every Time

Guns can sometimes be like laundry detergent. Year after year you hear the words “new and improved,” or “revolutionary new technology,” or even “completely new design,” but you open the gun up and it looks pretty much the same as it did last year. Something in the gun or the way it operates may be might be slightly new, slightly improved, but more likely it is a small incremental change and not something that you really have to wrap your head around to re-evaluate the way you think about how guns work.

That wasn’t the case when I stopped by the Remington booth today to check out the new Versa-Max shotgun today. I have owned many Remington 1100 and 1187 auto-shotguns over the years, and this gun looks nothing like them. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Remington has one of the truly unique stories this SHOT Show.

Grip Activated Laser and Light Combo Master Series Grips for Custom 1911s Crimson Trace https://www.crimsontrace.com/ Anything that gives you an edge in a gunfight is a good thing, as long as it doesn’t come at a price. And unfortunately, for a lot of lights and lasers, I have never felt that they provide the possibility [...]

Ruger LC9 – A New Pocket Pistol in 9mm

{ 93 comments }

If there is evidence of an internet revolution in the firearms industry it is certainly coming from Ruger. Today they announced the new LC9 polymer pocket pistol exclusively online at 2pm. You will not find an story on it in any print magazines today. It is still two weeks until SHOT Show, so by then it will be old news. And the gun is actually shipping February 1, 2011, in like a month. In an industry where only a few years ago the print world ruled and you couldn’t get a gun for six months after it hit the magazines, this is a monumental approach that Ruger is using to launch a new product. They even bumped SHOT Show but a couple weeks, presumably to avoid the noise floor that SHOT creates.

This message is about the 3rd party payment service for guns known as Gpal, or GunPal before that. Down this message a bit you will see a link to file a complaint if you feel you have been wronged. The image on the right here is the form. If you have not been involved with making or taking payments through Gpal this message does not affect you.

The State of the Gun Blogosphere

{ 4 comments }

You can’t pick up a magazine, read a newly published book, or even stand around a water cooler these days without hearing something about such and such a “blogger” somewhere. If you are not familiar with actual blogs, they vary in content from daily mumblings to extremely formal news delivery. Some writers check in once a day, some several times a week, and some not very often, but when they do they have something to say.

Winter Range 2010 Feb 24-28

If you are reading this, there is a pretty good chance that you missed Winter Range 2010 in Phoenix this year. A picture is worth a 1000 words, and I am too tired from having more fun than a cowboy should be allowed to have at this world class shooting event to explain to you all the great times that we had. Here is a brief “diary” account of what it is like to get ready for, and then go both work and shoot Winter Range. If you are new to Cowboy Action Shooting, you can get more information at the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) website. There is an introductory video to SASS on GunsAmerica TV here.

Prairie Dog Madness

You don’t hear “game changer” much in the world of production ammunition. But once again, Hornady Manufacturing Co. has indeed changed yet another game. If you have ever considered hunting prairie dogs with your AR-15 platform rifle but thought the cartridge slightly underpowered for 300 yard dogtown decimation shots, you can now get close .22-250 ballistics out of your .223 Remington chambered AR. The Superformance line of ammunition from Hornady now has a Superformance Varmint line (click here to download the PDF), and the possibilities that come from these “off the chart” new cartridges are truly amazing.
