Tall brush dictated a standing shot, so I rested the forend of the American Gen 2, chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, on shooting sticks.

In a time when content is king and new gun announcements come fast, the opportunity rarely arises to do a truly long-term gun review. One where you can get to know it, shoot it a lot, knock it around. I wanted to figure out what does and doesn’t work, set aside any marketing hype, and live with the gun.

The Savage 110 family of rifles are known for their tried-and-true quality and dependability.  This Long Range Hunter is no exception.

Sunlight glints off the polished brass receiver of the New Original Henry. The New Original Henry is based on the Henry Model 1860. It was described by Confederate soldiers as “that damned Yankee rifle that can be loaded on Sunday and fired all week.”

The Carbon Predator is an accurate, updated, lighter version of the venerable Model 110 with a Proof Research carbon fiber-wrapped stainless barrel and a stock that allows for a custom fit.

I love the idea of downsizing so will it stop at the 20-gauge or move to a 28 or even a 410?  My shot selection will of course need to be enhanced, but I tend to shoot over the decoys anyway.  I see this smaller gauge as nothing short of fun.

After some practice, no elk will be safe. I can’t wait to report on the rifle’s in-the-field performance soon.
