Yep, Winchester made a 1911. But it is not the 1911 you are looking for. This is the 1911 SL. The SL stands for self loading. This 1911 is a shotgun. Unlike the other 1911, this one was not designed by John Browning but he influenced the design in an interesting way.

The Steyr AUG M3 A1–A New Take on the Old Bullpup
Published: April 18, 2015 { 24 comments }Although the Steyr AUG’s design is over 40 years old, its innovative design and futuristic looks are almost timeless and would not look too out of place in the hands of a sci-fi star trooper. Looks aside, the AUG continues to define the bullpup rifle.
The GLOCK 42–One Year Later
Published: April 17, 2015 { 66 comments }Here’s the big dilemma: thousands GLOCK fans bought the GLOCK 42 because they couldn’t buy a 43. Thousands of others bought single stack 9mms from Kel-Tec, Skky, Ruger, Smith, Beretta, Bersa, Taurus, Springfield…. Some even ponied up for some ill-fated Remingtons. And now we all have to decide. Do you stick with what you have? Do you swap your old-standby for a 43?
5 Mods for EDC 1911s
Published: April 17, 2015 { 33 comments }The 1911 is now 104 years old. Some of you will say that it is not relevant and is, at best, an historic relic that deserves some respect. I am not of that camp. I carry a 1911 as an EDC. But I don’t carry one that looks like it came off of John Mosses’ work bench. Over those 104 years there have been some great and simple modifications to the original design that makes for a better EDC.
Shooting History-Ruger 3 Screw-Old Gun Review
Published: April 10, 2015 { 48 comments }So this gun is not exactly old. But Ruger stopped making them in 1973 and they have become more and more collectable and valuable. The name 3 Screw is in reference to the 3 Screws on the side of the frame. The new models have 2 pins. If you are fan of the single action revolver and have never shot one of these you owe it to yourself to do so. In my opinion, they are just about the best production single action revolvers ever made. Bear with me while I attempt to back that statement up!
A Carbine in a Backpack–TNW Survival Rifle Review
Published: April 3, 2015 { 77 comments }I have had the TNW ARS in for a couple of months during this review process. I carried it in a backpack in my Jeep as a survival rifle. Thankfully I never needed it to be that but I am confident it would have filled the roll nicely. I live in a big town, but travel into rural areas a couple of times a week. A breakdown type carbine is a great choice for my situation. Pack a bag with the Areo, 4-5 loaded magazine, 2 boxes of ammo, a first aid kit, water and a bit of food and I have a great little survival kit.
Cheap Guns: Hi-Point 45ACP Tactical Carbine – 4595TS Review
Published: March 28, 2015 { 131 comments }People get really emotional about Hi-Point guns. You could say that folks “either love them or hate them,” but I think there is a better explanation than that. Quality control and customer service are always an issue with small and fast growing companies. Hi-Point has had its ups and downs, so some people got good guns, and some people got very bad guns. Everyone I know who has purchased a Hi-Point in the last few years has been delighted with it, and my local gun dealer said that he sells a ton of them and none of them ever come back as having problems. To me that says that the word on the street is that Hi-Point guns are now generally reliable, and they have always been very inexpensive for what you get…when it works.
Shooting History-Winchester 1873-Old Gun Review
Published: March 26, 2015 { 27 comments }1873 was a big year in the firearms world. Colt’s new single action was adopted by the Army and Winchester came out with their best lever action to date. Originally chambered in .44 W.C.F., aka 44-40, the 1873 Winchester was the most powerful of the lever guns when it was introduced. This was a huge step forward from the rimfire .44 caliber used in the Henry and earlier Winchester rifles.

Gun Review: Mossberg’s MVP Patrol 7.62mm/.308
Published: March 14, 2015 { 42 comments }The MVP Patrol is a 7 ½ pound rifle. As the name implies, it is short, light and handy enough to tote around in a car or pack. The 16 ¼ inch barrel is capped by a standard birdcage flash hider, which means that threading for suppressor attachment is already there. The composite stock is thick and sturdy. The Patrol in .308 is a hard use rifle, not a svelte and trim hunting gun, although there’s no reason it wouldn’t serve as a great field rifle. Read our review….
Coonan the Barbarian – .357 Mag. 1911 Compact Review
Published: March 14, 2015 { 62 comments }There are some guns that you just have to shoot to understand. The Coonan is one of them. This is a semiautomatic. How does the hopped up revolver round function in a classic single-action pistol platform? Fantastic. And if you want a hard hitting concealed carry gun, this compact would be a kickass option.
Shooting History: 1913 Production Colt 1911 – Old Gun Review
Published: March 12, 2015 { 32 comments }The final design of the 1911 really came about from a series of trials that the US Government put it and other pistols through. These tests let Colt and John Browning see how the pistol held up. There were also requirements that the design had to meet. A lot of the credit for how the 1911 came out can be attributed to the trials and specifications required for the new pistol.

Shooting History: Colt 1908 Vest Pocket–Old Gun Review
Published: February 26, 2015 { 55 comments }Legend has it that John Moses made the first prototype of the Vest Pocket to carry in his, you guested it, vest pocket while walking around on this land in Utah. He supposedly wanted a tiny pistol for defense against coyotes. True or not, Browning did design a great little pistol that will fit in a vest pocket.

Kel-Tec SU16CA–The Ideal Compliant Pack Gun
Published: February 19, 2015 { 56 comments }The first thing many notice about the Kel-Tec SU16 is the abundance of polymer. This skinny little .223 doesn’t weigh very much. So how does a lightweight, polymer chassis rifle stand up to honest use? Check out our review.
1.5″/25yd Groups Guaranteed 1911- Accuracy X –New Gun Review
Published: February 14, 2015 { 34 comments }Accuracy X is hardly a household name. Tucked in the foothills of the Appalachians in western Virginia, the company is known more for its competition guns than it tactical 1911s. But they’re branching out. They’ve sent us three models from their new Pro Series–guns optimized for daily carry that still carry the Accuracy X Accuracy Gurantee–1.5″ groups from 25 yards. Can they live up to the challenge?
New Striker Pistol From Sig Sauer – P320 – Full Gun Review
Published: February 13, 2015 { 56 comments }When you think of Sig Sauer pistols, you think of classic double/single-action. What you don’t think of is striker-fired. While the new P320 clearly inherits some ideas and inspiration from the modular Sig P250 design, the action is all new. It’s a constant action, striker-fired pistol, complete with the internal safeties you would expect in a striker design. And the modularity will allow you to easily swap between calibers and frame sizes.
Shooting History: Colt’s 1903 Pocket Hammerless–Old Gun Review
Published: February 10, 2015 { 57 comments }Shooting History. This is the name of a new series that we will be running here at Guns America. We will take some historic guns, shoot them and review them not too much unlike our new gun reviews. It was seeing the new production Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless at SHOT Show this year that got me to thinking, so, it makes sense to kick it off with an antique 1903.

CMMG’s Mk4 300 Blackout AR Pistol
Published: February 7, 2015 { 9 comments }I think the 300 AAC Blackout caliber was really made for short barrels. Don’t get me wrong, I have a 300 Blackout AR-type rifle with a 16-inch barrel and love it. I just think the flexibility of the caliber really shines in short and compact configurations. And the CMMG MK4 Pistol is a solid option.
Rock River’s LAR-47 – 7.62×39 M4 Carbine Takes AK Mags – New Gun Review
Published: February 1, 2015 { 32 comments }This past week we ran a extremely popular SHOT article on the new AR pistol from MGI chambered in the 7.62×39 cartridge, which we generally think of as exclusive to the AK-47 and SKS class of rifles. Many people noted in the comments out there that there are other options for ARs that take AK mags, and it so happens that we put the https://rockriverarms.com/lar47″>Rock River LAR-47 through its paces some time ago. Since the gun is available for sale right now, this week is a good time to run it.

Published: January 31, 2015 { 49 comments }So you want to experience a gun that the pistoleros of old carried? The wheel guns of lawmen and outlaws alike was the Colt 1873. Original Colts are getting more and more expensive and then there is the risk of shooting a 100 plus year old revolver. But there are options to get the next best thing. Thanks to some of our Italian brothers we can shoot reproductions of the classic old west guns without fear for safety, damaging a collectable and with out breaking the bank. This Uberti Cattleman is a great place to start.
50 State Legal AR-15 – Ares Defense SCR
Published: January 25, 2015 { 76 comments }The ARES Defense SCR is a blend of classic sporting rifle and an AR. With the function of an AR and the feel of a Monte Carlo stock, the SCR is a winner. Think of the SCR as if someone cut off the top part of a Remington 750 and put an AR upper on it. It feels and shoulders like a traditional sporting rifle, but works like an AR.
Smith & Wesson Snubby .357 Revolver – Performance Center 686–Review

It looks good, but it is also ideal for those who are looking for hard hitting firepower and unfailing reliability from their concealed carry gun.

Tac-Con’s Raptor AK Trigger–SHOT Show 2015
Published: January 19, 2015 { 27 comments }Tac-Con made a big spalsh with the 3MR, an AR trigger that runs almost as fast as full-auto. Now they’re adding to that trigger and taking on the AK platform, too. Drop in triggers for AKs and the Saiga 12? That’s just half of the news. The 3MR is evolving too. Now the lightning fast trigger has a third position–a two-stage trigger with a one pound break. Speed and accuracy from one trigger–and the price is coming down.
The New CZ Scorpion–SHOT Show 2015
Published: January 18, 2015 { 91 comments }As AR pistols get smaller and smaller, they loose power. And the blast is hard to handle. The pistol caliber carbines have been slow to catch on, but that’s about to change. CZ’s new 9mm powerhouse, the Scorpion, is epic. It is exceptionally well built, and the price is going to knock you over.
