Pistol caliber carbines are fun and cheap to shoot and it doesn’t hurt that they are chambered in 9mm Luger, one of the most popular centerfire round in the world. This makes them great companion carbine for shooters who already own a 9mm pistol.

Staying in The Black: The Thompson Center $263 Impact Muzzleloader – Full Review
Published: June 22, 2017 { 8 comments }Though the muzzleloading rifle market has quite a bit to offer, if this style of rifle isn’t your primary hunting tool a large investment may not make a lot of sense. For the hunter looking to extend their season, especially the later deer seasons, I personally feel the T/C Impact represents a good balance of useable features and affordability.

A Gunfighter’s Dream: The Ed Brown Special Forces .45 ACP – Full Review
Published: June 21, 2017 { 16 comments }I have been writing for over 35 years and until this project I’ve never owned or shot an Ed Brown 1911. When I contacted Ed Brown Products, I requested the Ed Brown Special Forces model, which has been the anchor of their pistols lineup for many years. If their base duty/personal-defense handgun was up to par, the other models would be also. I was not disappointed.

A Hybrid Hunting/Match Rifle? The Bergara 6.5 B-14 HMR – Full Review.
Published: June 12, 2017 { 18 comments }Not that long ago if you had asked me to find a rifle with a street price under $1,000 that had a fully adjustable stock with a detachable magazine system, was suppressor capable, was compatible with some Remington 700 parts, and had a 1 MOA guarantee, I would’ve said no way. However, Bergara USA has delivered just such a rifle in the form of their B-14 Hunting/Match Rifle.

Published: June 8, 2017 { 42 comments }The Heckler & Kock SP5K 9mm is a rock-solid, proven design that all others must aspire to emulate. This gun is still a bargain compared to an original SP89, and I think is a better option based on how it comes equipped. If you want the real thing, it is definitely for you.

Dump Your .380 and Get This 9mm: Kimber’s Tiny Micro 9—Full Review.
Published: May 31, 2017 { 68 comments }Kimber turned its sights on the .380 concept with the Micro CDP and an entire Micro .380 line. Looking like a highly refined Colt Mustang (exactly what it is, just like the Sig Sauer P238 Series) with a standard capacity of 6 +1 the .380 ACP Micro series left Kimber with one remaining challenge and in 2016 Kimber took the next logical step by introducing a slightly larger Micro variation chambered in 9mm.
A Non-NFA 14” Remington 870? The New TAC-14 – Full Review!

Guns that fit into this category are pump firearms with a 14-inch barrel and no stock or pistol grip, firing 12 gauge shotgun rounds, and with an overall length of more than 26 inches. The Remington Tac-14 is one of the newest additions.
A Mega-Capacity Sig Sauer P320? The 21+1 Full Size X-Five 9mm – Full Review.
Published: May 24, 2017 { 8 comments }My first thought when reading the breaking news of the new X-Five line was that SIG was making some neat looking cosmetic changes to the pistol and maybe a bell here or a whistle there. It wasn’t until I received the test sample of the P320 X-Five and immediately tore it apart before I realized that the mad scientists at SIG had done much more than that! It is a P320, and shares the same internal serialized chassis (or fire control group) as the rest of the series. But in just about every other way it is a completely new and different gun.
A Sub-MOA Winchester for $550? The XPR Bolt-Action – Full Review.
Published: May 23, 2017 { 13 comments }Things have changed at Winchester since the mid-19th century, the New Haven, Connecticut plant is no more, and ownership of the company has changed as well. One thing has remained though: Winchester rifles are synonymous with reliability. There have been many different models, and many variations on a particular model. Herein, I’m tackling the Winchester XPR rifle, a modern bolt-action designed to handle it all, at a price that won’t see you sleeping on the couch.

Pigs, deer, and bear within close range will fall prey to the Bruin.
Ahead Of Its Time: The Retro Classic Franchi LAW 12 Scattergun
Published: May 18, 2017 { 8 comments }While the cumbersome SPAS 12 died a natural death around the turn of the millennium, its cousin the LAW 12 was a prescient piece of iron indeed. I traded out of my old LAW 12 a couple decades ago but recently found another one and righted that past wrong.
Big Boar Buster: Going Hog Wild with the New Savage MSR 10 Long Range .308
Published: May 18, 2017 { 28 comments }If your goal is to exterminate as many pigs as possible, your best bet is to shoot as many as you can very quickly. That’s a task best suited to an autoloading rifle. I also prefer something more powerful than a .223 Remington, and that’s why I chose Savage’s new MSR 10 Long Range rifle for a recent Texas hog hunt.
