I have enjoyed a great relationship with Springfield Armory for over 25 years. In my opinion, perhaps the hottest new gun of 2021 is a rimfire. Introduced last month, the new FNH 502 has proven to be everything we needed for this day and age. Most people don’t think of lever actions when they consider modern self-defense rifles mostly because they were the military, law enforcement, and civilian choice of the late 1800s. The first time I viewed a photo of the new Buck Mark Plus Vision UFX .22 caliber rimfire, from Browning North America, saw the red and black color pattern, the side cuts on the barrel sleeve and the long muzzle break, all I could think of was Star Wars–and I immediately loved the pistol! Across all the matches, test, and practice sessions with the JP5, I had 4 rounds fail to fire.  Examination afterward showed that three had backward primers and one had a sideways primer so all failures were the fault of the guy reloading the ammo (me for 3 of the 4) and not the fault of the JP5.

As so often happens when stalking pronghorn antelope, failure comes before success.
