I managed to get my hands on Seekins’ new Havak Element in 6.5 PRC soon after it was announced, and immediately put it through the hardest tests that I could think of: I brought it with me on several hunts including Idaho mule deer and whitetail deer.

I got my hands on the new 457 Scout rifle, the “youth” model of the new 457 lineup. I’ve been using it quite a bit and I’m impressed. Its approachable price tag belies the quality of its craftsmanship and its inherent accuracy.

Ruger came out swinging with a 9mm Pistol Caliber Carbine last year, with a design that rocked us back on our heels. Building on that success, they have just released a new chassis version, with all the bells and whistles.

The Howa Oryx combines the tried and true Model 1500 barreled action with a new, tough as nails chassis to offer an affordable rifle platform for many endeavors. I was fortunate enough to be able to get my hands on one of these chambered in 6mm Creedmoor from Legacy Sports International.

The Winchester model 1895 was the last lever-action designed by firearms designer John Browning, and a favorite of Teddy Roosevelt and the Texas Rangers.

My affinity for scary black rifles began eons ago, back in 2003, as an honorary member of the Tarleton State High Power Rifle Team. From there, my interests morphed into local 3-gun competitions where I took my DCM rifle and changed out parts to make the gun more viable for match shooting—something of a Franken-gun, really, but it ran well, and it was a tack driver.

But perhaps the biggest headline, aside from the chambering itself, is the ability to change the rifle from a fully right-hand shooter’s gun to a fully left-hand shooter’s gun – in just minutes – without tools or additional parts.
