I had a lot of fun using this scope over the last couple of months. Let me tell you now, once you start hunting with thermal you will not want to go back.

This week, we got our hands on the latest member of the SIG miniature red dot family, the Romeo 1 Pro. Designed to slide mount on pistols, with the option available for Picatinny mounting to rifles, this little guy is a great addition to the lineup. Most of you are probably asking what is the difference between the Romeo 1 and the Romeo 1 Pro, and that is a valid question. The answer requires a little bit of storytime though.

The Sako S20 was definitely cheated when it hit the market in 2020; Covid19 stole the media spotlight and was also responsible for the cancellation of the SHOT Show and the Annual NRA Show, the two largest firearms manufacturer events of the year. The S20 has a right to feel slighted, but the US consumers were also cheated by not getting the exposure they deserved to the new Sako offering. So, let’s take a fresh look at the S20’s features, options, and performance.

While some thermal is better than others, the type of device makes a difference as well.

I needed to find optics that were a good value and not just cheap. I found that Holosun fitted that role well.

InfiRay Outdoors has the first 1280×1024 commercial thermal. It’s four times as much resolution as has ever been available to the commercial market in a riflescope. 

Long story short, vision is complicated.

The coolest thing about this unit is the ability to use it as either a helmet-mounted monocular or scope for your rifle. The versatility is amazing. For those who want a quality thermal rifle scope, but also the ability to hike around hands-free looking through thermal, the NOX18 was made for you. While other dedicated thermal scope options with a larger objective lens would provide more clarity, the NOX18 blends weight, size, and function beautifully.
